Strap them to a chair and make them play games like Lara Croft, Medal of Honor (the original one), Metal Gear Solid, etc.

full list of suggested games [http://thatsovietguy.com/top-7-games-that-new-generations-need-to-play]

Every single time I hear someone calling me a noob in TF2, makes me rage and want to relive the times when you actually needed EFFORT to finish a game.

Do you get the same feeling? If you're over 20, you should have caught the phase where games were hard and needed practice and dedication.

Over 20? I'm 16 and I can easily remember a time where if you didn't play a game for about a month and went back to play it, it would kick your ass. Yea, I do miss the self-challenging nature that video games used to have. There are many games today that challenge me, but far less than in the past, but maybe that's because I was younger? I don't know, but I can surely say I miss the games of the past.

actually since they are younger they probably just have better reflexes since as we get older we get slower or get joint problems etc etc

Old games weren't harder than new games. I don't see how that makes any sense, since there wasn't some unanimous decision among game developers to make games easier. The only possible difference is that you thought old games were harder because they had arbitrary gameplay mechanics that just made the game more frustrating, and should have never been there in the first place. Besides, what do these old games have to do with online multiplayer? Absolutely nothing. Your "skill" in those games has no influence on anything in online multiplayer, so why should anyone respect you for it? Not saying it justifies those annoying 12 year olds, but at the same time your elitism isn't justified either.

I've had my little brother play old games. He's liked some of them, but for the most part he was frustrated by them. At first I had the same thought as you, but then I realized it was because those old games had poor design decisions that made them pointlessly hard in some cases. You're just another poor fool blinded by nostalgia.

That just means they have less of a life, it doesn't give them a reason to be a dick to people.

I get so pissed off when people say stuff like "fucking noob" to me just because I don't care much about getting good at games I play online and don't take the effort to get better because that would require playing more than I want to play. It's just a game and I'm well within my right to be a "noob".

On the other hand its funny how when I play games like Modern Warfare 2 I beat most people and get called a hacker constantly despite hardly ever playing FPS games online and not putting much time or effort into it... hehe... 14 year olds are hilarious creatures.

Gotta agree...people over 20 remember when games required more effort it should also be noted that multiplayer was never an integral part of the experience. Especially if you were just playing Tomb Raider and, Metal Gear Solid. Kids today are going to be better at multiplayer because of all the practice they're putting into it just like the 20-somethings are going to be better with the single-player story since that's what we grew up with.

I'd think they decided, "Hey people aren't playing our games, what do we do?" So in some cases they use simpler game mechanics and the like to make the game more user friendly, but other than that, most games stay true to their competitive nature.

I think the OP was really trying to point out the ease of online play. Multiplayer, in all games, is meant to be easy to pick up and play. That way, they can target a wider audience and therefore make more money.

One more aspect is to think that, instead of being blinded by nostalgia, the OP is blinded by rage. He says he's getting angry, that's just what the little fuckers want. By allowing yourself get angry your probably slipping up more and making yourself an easier target. My advice to the OP would be to take off your mic/headset and get back down to Earth before he starts playing again.

Oh yeah, we're getting into the casual games discussion again.

Half-Life 1 Multiplayer had a huge learning curve, however was played by millions. However amongst those millions I don't think there were too many 12 year olds (dunno tho).

I'm 30 and have better things to get bothered about than a 12 year old calling me names.

I find the abuse on XBL funny.

Trust me, if they're the kind of person who would call someone a noob over an online game, they won't be able to appreciate a game like Metal Gear Solid.

I don't take it too personally but games do pamper players more then they used to, I remember needing cheat codes not just wanting to see what funny effects they have. What really annoys me is the newer=better philosophy some people (not just kids either) have.

Meh, I tend to instantly and indescriminantly mute microphones, my hayday in multiplayer gaming has been and gone, with FPS's leading the way online, my time close to the top is way long gone.

I think you have the right idea. Having have grown up on the internet (24 now) I have learned that what people on the internet think of me has ZERO bearing on my real life. So it's really just funny, especially if they come up with some sort of creative taunting.

Exactly. Same applies on forums. People don't know you, don't know anything about you so any insult they make should just be laughed off.

I've been called some terrible things by team-mates due to my lack of skill, hehe.

This can definitely be a factor, but I'd still think it has more to do with the fact that as a responsible adult, my 3 hours of gaming I might get to enjoy over the weekend can't compare to the 20+ hours kids are putting in every week.

I'm sorry I never learned to jetpack-jump-spin-scope-snipe-you-from-across-the-map in Reach, I spent my week earning piles of money instead. ;)
