If you ignored the hype...did Fable 2 disappoint?

Odd coincidence I was just talking to a friend of mine about this yesterday. He said that "if you played Fable 1 you played Fable 2 with fewer piss annoying stupid things to contend with". I played Fable 1 and was wholly disappointed by it so I'm taking his advice.

I had sort of been following the hype up to release, but not so much as to give away any major spoilers. As previous posts have stated, the game was far too short and the final boss (if it can so be called) was a joke.

Another gripe I had was that it was just too easy, and even if you did die, there was no penalty other than a line drawn onto your characters body. I got the limited edition as well, which meant I got the Master Chief armour and the sword from the Halo games.

I didn't really buy into the hype, but I was still a bit disappointed. The one thing that really pissed me off was the change to the magic system. In Fable 1, you were able to shock the fucking piss out of enemies with the push of a button. In 2, it took 5 years to charge up a single spell that didn't do a fucking thing.

I completely ignored the hype for the game, I didn't want it personally when it came out.
My little brother bought it and I played it and...
I didn't particularly like it, but I prefer turn based combat so maybe it wasn't for me

I had already played the fisrt game, so I had hoped for it to impress me... It was a real disappointment for me, the only upside was that I borrowed the game.

The story made absolutely zero sense to me. Everything about it was arbitrary and contrived.

It was great the first time around. Then I went back to make a lesbian and found myself unwilling to continue. It had no replay value. Still, it turned out well the first time.

My friends and I liked to make fun of Molynuex and so we knew all about the hype. Of course we didnt believe it, but it was really funny seeing Peter talk about the "dog".

I liked the first one better

I've enjoyed both Fable games immensely. You've got to learn to not take everything Peter Molyneux says seriously. He has a vision, a dream if you will, of what his ideal game would be like. He gets so excited with all of these cool ideas that he starts promising stuff left and right... and when people realize that everything he said won't make it into the game they get disappointed.

I've been a fan of Peter Molyneuxs games since Dungeon Keeper so I've learned to deal with it. I just don't see the point of being pissed off and saying the original Fable sucks simply because the trees do not grow the way Molyneux said they would when there is so much in that game to love.

I liked it actually, it was a bit small and the "family" mechanic was very shallow but it was fun.

To be honest, there are very few games for which I have boarded the hype wagon, so Fable 2 didn't disappoint at all considering I was enjoying the little improvements they made over the first game. While I get easily influenced by forum posts, my enjoyment of the game was not hindered at all by the negativity of the community.

It was a blast playing through the game.

I completely avoided all the hype and found it to be a very enjoyable game. Though it's too short and lacks any fun re-playability it certainly was a nice little adventure!

I hated it enough to not even give the third one a chance, no matter what anyone will say about it.

Honestly? Yes. I just do not think Fable 2 was as good as the original game, and CERTAINLY not as good as The Lost Chapters. I enjoyed the hell out of Fable 2 nevertheless (curiously, for the exact things Yahtzee panned it for) and until I had to do things BESIDES jump over fences and work a forge whilst dressed to the nines in exquisite finery and a dashing ballroom mask, I had a lot of fun. Then I discovered how unfun the combat actually was and how flavorless the world was.

Plus, the Hero of Bowerstone is a pansy. Hero of Oakvale would murder him to death

It was/is soooo good *drool*

Everyone can be as critical of the game as they want, but I thought it was really pretty good, I mean not as good as Fable 1 but still very near it.

All 3 of my playthoughs ended up feeling very different, my most resent one was even a bit of a challenge!

well, I got it a long time after its release so I wasn't really hyped about it, but I liked it, to the point of having finished it three times.

From a gameplay perspective, yes.

Why, you may ask? Easy: Time Lag + Shock.

Take a look at this guys insightful analysis of the plot of Fable 2 and why it is just awful [http://www.shamusyoung.com/twentysidedtale/?p=2105].

That plus the ridiculously easy/simplistic gameplay are good reasons to consider Fable 2 not worth the hype.

I enjoyed and still listened to the hype. I didn't get hyped up but I was excited and had fun.

My favorite game? No. But I'm still glad I got it.
