Typically, nerds don't like rap. I wonder why it is
That's not quite true, since nerds are pretty much the entire audience of the Nerdcore rap sub-genre.
wow, I had no idea such a thing existed. That's pretty funny
Indeed, I'm not a particularly big fan of rap no matter what it's about but nerdcore will still bring a smile to my face by virtue of the subject matter.

Nerdcore actually just cropped up in one of the latest news stories here [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/7.162128], with MC Frontalot offering the world a D&D inspired methodology to quit smoking.

Gza and the rest of the Wu-tang Clan, OutKast are awesome. Although many fans of real hip hop seem to despise Lil Wayne I do see like he has some untapped talent. If you listen to the OutKast song Hollywood Divorce I would say that he has the best verse and has some real shit to say. Also check out the song I Feel Like Dying.

I pretty much like any rap that isn't main-stream ego wanking, or a nonstop playing of the race card.
As a mater of fact, if it weren't for these two things, rap would be my favorite style of music.

I usually despise Rap with the burning intensity of a thousand suns, but there does seem to be two exceptions to this rule:
Eminem's earlier stuff and the Beastie Boys (If you can call that rap, it's debatable)
I am similar, but discount Eminem. I do like the Beastie Boys though.

I also love rap like this;

WARNING: Sexism and bad language.

im not always keen on rap unless it sounds good and it has deep meaning. Eminem has a couple of good ones, my favourite being "When Im Gone".

rappers like Immortal Technique and Lupe Fiasco are proof the industry is FAR from dying off.

I can stop and suddenly find out that i just listened to all of Food & Liquor and didnt realize it...

I remember I first heard Immortal Tech from a song he did with Ill Bill called "War is my Destiny" wasnt too impressed. But he got better the more I listened to

The Adventures of Duane and Brand0

Seriously, look them up. Your ears will ejaculate.
So, I actually found something I can agree with in this thread. That´s nice.

I don´t really listen to rap/hip-hop/whatever, and frankly don´t know a thing about it, but Duane and Brand0 I thoroughly enjoy, mainly because of the subject matter of their songs. Awesome stuff, even if my ears stay unejaculated (don´t think that´s even a word).

I'm sure I'd like Immortal Technique if I listened to him more, but I've never really been all too impressed with what I've heard. Content-wise he's knowledgeable and opinionated, but I feel like that's a prerequisite of being a decent rapper anyway. To craft wordplay and intricate rhyme requires a type of a technical skill and matching those with appropriate allusions and wordplay requires one to be knowledgeable.

I don't really get into "Who's the best?" arguments because the criteria are all over the place. I don't mind the self-referential rap if it's clever, which is why I can appreciate some Wayne. I go crazy for heartfelt lyrics though. Blu's "Cold Hearted" just makes me feel something indescribable. The politically conscious like Dead Prez and P.O.S. is well-appreciated also. And what about sheer rhyming ability? The first few bars of Abdominal's "Vicious Battle Raps" have absurdly intricate, multisyllabic rhyme.

To the person that said nerds don't typically appreciate hip hop, I agree. I don't think the typical nerd would go into, but what's typical? Ignoring Nerdcore despite my appreciation for Front and Optimus Rhyme, what are you left with it? It's expected that they will buy into a genre almost exclusively about their interests and experiences. How many of those same folks are listening to hip hop at large? I would say a small percentage. First and foremost, I appreciate many of the nerdcore artists (especially Front) for the different in style: the vocabulary, the irony, and the unique samples. After that I laugh at the jokes about video games and computers.

I only like hip-hop or rap when the message isn't being a jerk to someone or something else. Basically I like rap when the singer isn't an emo kid in denial. Hip-Hop used to be about bringing people together and being peaceful with everything.
