If you wanted to be in MLG, how would your parents react?

I recently thought of doing this, but then decided that with everything else going on (mainly high school) i don't have the time to see what kind of results i can push.
My question is as follows: if you told your parents that you wanted to be MLG, would they be approving? or would they tell you to stop wasting your time?
No poll, i just want written opinions/ experiences

Dad would tell me to get a real job and have goals that are realistic, mum would probably be supportive but purely for the sake of avoiding conflict.

I think my mom would lie and say she is fine with it, not actually meaning it until I've made a substantial amount of money.

My dad would give me hell about it just because he could. Give him a reason to be snide and he will, with hilarious results.

They'd both think I was being silly, but would let me try as long as I was supporting myself with other jobs.

They pretty much want whatever makes me happy, as long as I understand they won't pay for everything. (Currently at college, living at home)

My dad wouldn't know what it was an assumed I was crazy. He likes video games but he'd be like "really?"

Uhh. That would be one awkward as hell conversation to avoid. They hate the amount of time I spend on games already.

Well considering my dad wants me to get a career in video games since he knows how much I enjoy them, I know not only would he encourage me but he'd also fly out to each competition I was in to watch me play. My mom would probably be apathetic to the whole thing though.

This topic is kind of funny to me though cause one of my dreams is to be good enough at Starcraft 2 to play competitively, something which my dad has encouraged me to work towards as well. Guess I come from a weird family then lol.

Erm..noob question, but what's the MLG?

Also, new rule: Don't use abbreviations until AFTER you've used the full word/phrase/term at least once.

MLG stands for Major League Gaming. It's the biggest professional circuit for video games in the United States, and even works with the GSL(Global Starcraft League, the biggest Starcraft II tournament in the world) to promote competition between countries.

Oh. Well, my parents would be disappointed as hell. Not only would I throw my education away, but I'd also waste what connections in the non-gaming world I've gained =/

Major League Gaming. A company that buys up controllers, mice and stuff in bulk, puts their logo on it and sell it at 100% profit. They also host some game tournaments, mainly as advertising and way to peddle their overpriced crap(by "banning" every other equivalent input device). They also host a clan for whatever are today's most popular games, which are always filled with insufferable idiots who think they're "pro" while the real competitive players stay in their own clans.

"lolwut?" - Parents

Equivalent to joining the circus.

Can't imagine they'd be pleased.

They'd laugh at me. Then when I explained to them that I was serious they would be very concerned.

As a adult capable of making sound financial decisions, they might ask questions regarding pay and lifestyle but I think they'd be cool with it.

For the record though, I don't think I'd want to play video games professionally. It often strikes me that such a thing misses the point and, more importantly, I'd hate to have to engage in the "does MLG deserve to be called a sport" at every turn. I suspect my stance of "no" would cause far too many follow on questions.

Well considering my Dad is a little annoyed that I'm getting a job instead of a PhD he'd probably say nothing and just slap me. That said, he usually trusts me to make good decisions, even if it isn't what he wanted.

They wouldn't care.

Their reaction aside, MLG is a joke and I pity anyone that strives to be a part of that scene.
