Yeah, I'm in for Immortality. Ok, this planet would eventually die, but check the technology curve... we will at the very least be capable of creating a ship that could survive inter-galatic travel. And once they can make them reliable enough I would step up and tell them.. hey guys, put me on the next boat out of here.. I am the one person on the planet that can make it to another planet and back in a single lifetime. I'll come back and tell you what I find.

Also, watching everyone I love die would suck, but wouldn't be much worse then having a pet die. And I'm sure you get used to it after a few thousand years.

Unless that asteroid hits us in 200 years, that would suck.

Depends, would I still feel pain and stuff? Because if I didn't, I'd probably take it. I'd like to jump off buildings for the shock factor, and just climb out of the me-shaped hole in the pavement and walk away.
I wouldn't like to see my friends and family and stuff die, but I'd get over it. I'd just make friends with the whales and giant squids that live deep under the ocean. Again, assuming I'm allowed to live without pain and stuff.

No because forever means FOREVER, as in after the earth is destroyed floating in infinity forever and ever.

Not fun

If I had the means to move through space after Earth ends, however long that takes, and find another planet that had intelligent life, I'd consider it.

No. Seeing everyone I care about die around me to move on and repeat the cycle would be my own personal Hell.

Yes, I'd enjoy it until everyone's gone and then I get everything to myself.
Don't know about me at the end of mankind but the me of today can be alone without complete insanity.

In reality though, I could never beat him. He's been on the Escapist for only a few more months than me, and he's got 34,000 more posts. I feel so inadequate. *sob*

Extended life, yes
Complete immortality, no

However if i was given immortality without a choice, I think it would be interesting, I would definitely protect my future generations and learn as many skills as i could. Then probably become some form of nomad for a century or so.

Definitely. I don't know what kind of self-hating psychopath you'd have to be to even CONSIDER saying no.

And best of all it looks like it's going to become a reality, what with SENS and the future prospects of mind uploading.

Sure, why not... So ppl are dying in what feels like 5 seconds to me, you'd get used to it. same with the pain... if yur immortal you cant actually get hurt even if you do feel pain. jump off a building once a week or so, after that first year you probably wouldn't even feel it anymore. besides, once you hit that 150 year old mark and you still look like yur 20's or 30's, ppl are bound to start listening to you, so you could rule the planet if you play your cards right. haha besides, anyone tries to stop you you just watch as they fail to kill you time after time.

I believe I once read that as we grow older our concept of time shortens. As in, as a child an hour felt like forever and days were eternities, and as we go older days seem to pass in seconds. And therefore the longer we live the longer this has to effect us. In the end the normal person's lifetime would go in a heartbeat, at which point why would we bother talking to people? They'd be gone soon enough. So no I'd rather not :D

I would say yes, I could do whatever I want. There are too many things to do when humanity is dead anyways...

Imagining the sheer amount of things I could do with that much time... I don't know. Given the chance, in real life, out of nowhere? I wouldn't even have the luxury of thinking about it, I'd have to say yes. There's no immediate downside, and you've got all the time in the world to come to terms with your split-second decision. If you believe, as I do, that mankind's future can only be among the stars, then hopefully by the time our good old Earth's in any severe danger I'd already have the power to move on and start new worlds.

There are lots of things that would suck about it, but when you've got the chance you should have the presence of mind to say HELL YES before the opportunity jumps away.

Perhaps its just me, but the whole concept of being immortal seems like a no brainer. The whole argument of "watching everyone you care for and love die" doesnt flow with me, cause, well im a semi emotionless self centered prick. Besides... as long as others are around, theres always someone else to "care for" and if all of humanity dies out, theres always animals. And should all life cease to exist, Im pretty sure ive got a strong enough imagination to drum up a few friends. I guess already being batshit crazy in my own right, prolly makes it alot easier than it would be for most.

yes. This would in turn be the best thing in life. One of the best points being the inability to be killed. Let alone living forever. (Of course, lets not forget not ageing)
