Because it's so damn harmless. If even the most awful gangs in the country can be conquered by a ten-year-old and his or her pets, then it's gotta be pretty damn safe.
I'm too spoiled to cope with post-apocalyptic wastelands or battling alien empires. I want to live in the world where I can just kick back in front of Lake Valor and watch Magikarps uselessly flail about, or play the Pokemon slots, or just show off my god-beasts at a contest.
