I've been cosplaying for like....8 years now? Wow. I would recommend starting as I did, someone who is easy to make and already looks like you. Also, more importantly then those, ACTUALLY LIKE THE CHARACTER. It's weird that I would have to say that but too many newbies go on cosplay forums just asking "who do I look like, who should I be?" Obviously it should come from your own interests first. My first costume satisfied all three requirements, I was Lupin the 3rd. Gradually got into more difficult costumes over time.

I actually did cosplay as Ellis from Left 4 Dead 2 at PAX East this year. I also have an Organization XIII coat, so I can cosplay as one of them as well. My next one I want to do is either Kyubey from Madoka Magica, Leonardo da Vinci from Assassins Creed II or Brotherhood, or Ragna the Bloodedge.

I'm not exactly sure if "Cosplay" means to dress as any character, or if it's limited to just anime and/or video game characters, since usually when someone's talking about cosplaying, they're usually referring to someone dressing as an anime or video game character. So, I'll just list a bunch of characters I'd like to do a costume before for all genres, just to cover everything

ANIME: Sanji (One Piece), Havoc in his Covert Ops gear (Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood)

MOVIES: One of the robbers in Reservoir Dogs

MUSIC: Kurt Cobain and/or Zombie Kurt Cobain with a shotgun. Much lulz would ensue

I think that if I were ever to cosplay as someone, I'd cosplay as Proxy 1, Ergo Proxy, depending on your preference. I remember when I rewatched it that I thought to myself that that was the only character I would ever really consider cosplaying. Not that he's the absolute best character for me, but I think I might be able to pull it off.

You actually can buy starburst grenades from what I understand. They're the 40mm ones that might actually work for your costume. I don't know where to buy them from, but in theory, it's possible and legal. XD

Personally, I'm glad I took Paladin. Can't stand the whole dark motif; it feels too juvenile to me now. When I was young, I thought dark was cool and light could go suck it. Light's grown on me a lot over the years.

That said, Chaos Knight does look pretty damn badass, I must admit. Much better than Dark Knight, which is basically wearing a skin-tight black skeleton that becomes a turd in coloring when exposed to ep6 lighting.

Incidentally, Holy Knight hasn't got any concept art out for it yet that I know of, so I'm eagerly anticipating what awesome form we will take for it. Personally, I'm hoping for some wings.

There are a ton of different characters that I would love to cosplay at one point, but if I could cosplay as anyone it would be a Big Sister from Bioshock (as you can see from my avatar, I clearly have a fixation on them). One reason being, I have the ideal body-type for it (thin and tall-ish to the point of being a bit gangly). The other and more dominant reason would be simply that I think they are awesome.

Professor Layton, of course. And my second choice would be Big Boss. The only way I would possibly do it is if I was at a place where no one knows who I am or the people who did know me would be doing it as well.
