This will go two ways, eather the IGDA is worth a dam and they throw him out, or they are nothing but a bunch of corrupt self-serving arseholes who should be ignored or condemed in all they do.

I don't know which way it will go, after all they did elect him in the first place.

Dungeon Fantasy 2 has me realizing that I should follow my dream of starting a game company called Revenge of Dead Aliens: Vengeance. In order to make sure no one is incorrectly associated with me I'm going to have to trademark "revenge", "vengeance", "dead", "Aliens", and ":".

The best part will be when I sue LucasArts for Star Wars: Dark Forces V: Jedi Knight IV: Jedi Outcast III: Jedi Academy II: He's a Jedi already. and collect quintuple royalties.

Also, Dungeon Fantasy 2 sounds like a porn title.

Does U2 have to pay this guy royalties?
I think U2 has been around longer. And I don't think he would sue even if that weren't true for two reasons: 1)U2 is big/rich/liked enough to fight back and 2)the fact that The Edge is only using it as his stage name puts Langdell on even shakier legal ground.
I wasn't asking seriously, just poking fun. But yeah, U2 has definitely been around longer than this trademark.

Great! I hate assholes like him. Thinking that when you make art it's fully yours.

Also: Edge Edgington and Edgina Edgefree in the Edgy Edge!

Sadly, when karma doesn't act fast enough, its time to take law to your own hands.

Well, he trademarked The Edge, supposedly to defend his company, Edge Games. I, therefore, will be founding Dungeon Fantasy 2 Software, and trademarking "Dungeon," "Fantasy", and "2". You know...to protect my interests.
So you won't mind if I take "software" and all it's constituent words: so, soft, of, oft, war, ware, are and re?

I should trademark "EXTREME", "VENGEANCE" and "ADVENTURE". Hell I should even go against rpgs you can just trademark "Chronicles".

It should be noted that the e-mail that supposedly was sent by the IGDA containing links to the survey has been identified as fraudulent by the IGDA itself at this time. That's not particularly good news for anybody that actually filled out the survey.

I've been a very proud member of the IGDA for a few years now - and still am! Issues like this are pretty touchy though. However, RollForInitiative is correct, that the e-mail that was sent out was fraudulent and spoofed as coming from the IGDA.

The survey is hosted by a real entity though, so... no one should be getting harmed because of signing it. I hope. There's a lot of people with very strong opinions, so it wouldn't shock me if it was just a very over zealous supporter of getting him removed that did it, without any harm intended.

Know this face. Do not trust it.

This is the face of the man who sued an indie developer for using and English word and when they indicated they would change the name of their game... he then trademarked the name they intended to change it to.

I didn't think anyone could top Jack Thompson but this guy must be on a mission or something. What a slimy sleaze ball lawyer.

I didn't know Edge Magazine actually had to license the name from Mr Langdell here! Now I really don't like this guy.

Here's hoping he does get the (metaphorical) kick in the teeth he needs.

The interesting thing is that even if the email isn't "legitimate," its cause and the petition it linked to most definitely is. So regardless of whether or not the IGDA executive wants to stand behind it, it's job is done.

Bit more information on the IGDA disavowal here [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/93661-IGDA-Disavows-Langdell-Email], in case anyone is curious.

Under "****"(regd. trademark) in the Oxford English Dictionary, it has Langdell's face.
You can't just copyright a standard English word! There's a village near mine called "Edge" - is he going to sue every person that lives there?

How's about I trademark the words "Tim" and "Langdell" and whenever I see his name, be it on his desk, letters to him, from him or whenever he introduces himself, I fine him a million fucking dollars?

And while I'm at it I'll trademark every other word this greedy little dipshit ever uses. Which probably only consists of "SUE" and "THEM".
