I remember one time in the past that someone at one of my old schools mistook Monster Hunter Freedom Unite for a Final Fantasy game.

Someone was literally shocked that a gaming system that was not an Xbox existed. Never mind that what he saw was my first PSP.

Ive even seen people stunned with disbelief that people around the world work in thier hundreds to make videogames.

My favourite one is when people think it's ok for a game to not work on launch.
I mean, call it a product or a service, whichever you like, but in any other industry paying for something you don't get is grounds for legal action.

I was trying to explain the concept of "Gold Farmers" in MMOs to my wife and I think I blew her mind. She had a hard time wrapping her head around people paying money to bypass parts of the game,
I have a problem wrapping my mind around that, and I've been a gamer for years. Why would someone pay money to bypass part of a game that they (one assumes) paid money for the right to play?

I get that games have sucky parts sometimes. As much as I love FF X, there were some parts that could fuck right off. Lightning dodging, for instance. Or getting 0 Time during the Chocobo 'racing'. But I digress.

Either the sucky part is short (in which case, not worth the money), long (in which case why play the game?), or optional (in which case either do it once for completion or don't bother). In none of these situations do I see a good reason to pay money to outsource my gaming to someone else.

The other day I was asked by my boss "so er how do you actually finish a videogame and how long does it take?"
For future reference the easiest way to answer that question is:
Depends on the game. Some games take 2-5 hours, others can take 40-80+ hours, and there are even some games that are never "finished". That is how I always answer the question and it always works. Then they may proceed to ask about either the "short games" or the "unfinishable games" just name a couple examples for the short games like Mario Party, CoD, etc. For the unfinishable ones ALWAYS use WoW. (They will have at least heard of it) Then mention it is just a world to run around and talk to people in and do quests together. Don't over complicate it, they don't care.

For me, it is "What level are you on?" wanting a number. I like saying my characters level if playing an RPG. Tell them "57" and watch them be stunned.
Oh I did at first I actually explained that to him but he wasnt having it he was like yeah yeah but on average so I just got fed up with him and gave him my slightly terse abbreviated response that answers his question but only in a very offhand way. As for mentioning examples, that is pointless he has heard of Mario (but cant tell you any games he was in) has never heard of sonic obviously has never heard of WoW cant name you any genres i.e platformer FPS fighting game etc he has heard of CoD as in "whats that game thats been on the news where you shoot people and stuff" I did give Rogue likes as an example for games that can go on forever but that was a mistake that confused him more.

Also I dont much like my boss so my patients are already stretched thin when I am at work and his inability to comprehend simple things annoys the hell out of me, apparently he went to college but how he passed I will never know because I say this in no exaggeration he cannot write very well or spell at all and when I say that I mean it takes him about 3 minutes to write a cheque and he still messes it up and as for typing speed lol he single finger types and its just painful he dosent know where any of the keys are in the slightest.

Oh I have actually said maybe he should try a game theres loads of free ones on the internet they may not be very good but if he tries some he may have some idea of how different games can be.

Anyway back on topic I once met someone in a store who thinks video games cause people to be evil and they should be destroyed, ofcourse when I rebutted him by say people have been commiting acts of violence way before video games existed that shut him up and he basically left.
wow...

what solid logic and strong argument he had....

The most common one I get from older people is that console = game. So that every console/handheld only plays the one game.
