What's the point of this thread? There's no question posed, and the assertion made cannot be challenged since it is a statement about the OP himself.

Does the OP just want a cookie or perhaps a pat on the back? Or is there a point here that I'm missing?

Am I the only one fucking enraged by the grammatical error in both the title of the thread and within the OP itself?
Fix that shit, it's bugging the living hell out of me.
Please explain, I've had a pretty shit education, so sorry for the grammar errors.

Edit: Angryman101, somehow that's a very suitable name for you.
It's 'aN open minded gamer.' An is the grammatical article used when referring to a noun/adjective proceeding a noun when the next word begins with a vowel. 'a' proceeds nouns/etc that begin with a consonant.
Thank you for that, i have correct it for you, and for all the other grammar Nazi's out there (I kid, I, kid).

After spending years on this forum, it has suddenly dawn on my me, that the reason that i feel i stand out among the other game playing folks on the escapist, is because.

I'M AN OPEN MINDED GAMER

I just love games, you name a game, I probably like it. I can even cope, and have patience with various things that others would find game breaking, such as glitches, long loading, long tutorials, lack of story ect.

Hell, i even found some fun with sonic 2006, which as most people would think is a fucking disaster because it fails in a lot of key areas. I however looked passed all its various faults, and just took the game how it is, and not wishing of what it could of been like.

It's because of my open mindedness to gaming as a whole, it feels really painful to see all my favourite games get chewed up and spat on by various people on the forums. For example say Red faction guerilla, great game in my eyes, but not at all great to some. Some people will say how it lacks in story, has repetitive gameplay ect. I never found those things wrong about the game, I just took the rough with the smooth, and appreciated how much work was put into making the game.

I surely can't be the only person who is like this, so speak up fellow escapists, are you as open minded to games just as much as me. Do you have the patience to take the rough with the smooth, and to appreciate a fine game. Also do you enjoy a lot of games regardless of genre.

If so, please answer my question, are you a open minded gamer?
I'm similar in some ways and the opposite in others. I will play just about any game that's put in front of me (I generally buy most games at launch since I have a great excuse) but I also have very high, exacting standards so I generally don't complete too many games.

That being said I'm far more likely to complete a flawed game that tries something new (particularly story wise) than a highly polished sequel.

This reminds me of something that Yatzhee once said.

"If disliking this sort of shit makes me stupid, then call me Retard McSpackyPants, but I'd rather be stupid and having fun than bored out of my huge genius mind."

No, you are not open minded, you're just easy to please. My grandpa likes food, every single type of food you can think of, he'll eat it and enjoy it. Not because he's an open minded culinarist, but because he grew up during WW2 when food was scarce.

-----------------------------------------------

On second thought, yeah, you might well be open minded too, but if you are then it's not because of the reasons you listed here.
Then what reasons might that be, please explain.

That doesn't make an open minded gamer, you do however seem to be into self gratification which I am so behind you on. Granted I do it in a completely different manner.

It really is up to how much I expect from a game. I loved Red Faction Guerrilla while being totally aware of all its faults. Destroying stuff is just too much fun. I also bought and played Cryostasis even though it has gotten not so great reviews. If I paid full price I probably wouldn't have been so kind to it, but it was worth experiencing.

I can look past flaws as long as there is something worthwhile there I guess. But I won't ignore them.

I'm open minded, I play all different genre's (well, nearly all) and give everything a chance to see if it interests me or not (doesn't mean I go and buy everything). I don't require a decent story or great graphics to really enjoy a game but I believe all games should give you a different challenge every now and again so your not just doing the same thing over and over.

You on the other hand, I would say your very forgiving and have low standards.

I'm not open minded, I just don't close my opinions to biased bullcrap generated by the majority. I like to judge things for myself, rather than what the crowd says to put it simplistically.
i think that's the sentiment i also have. sorry for quoting, lol, the irony.

I like all sorts of games from RPGs for FPSs and I'm very patience with developers. Open minded?

I'm certainly more open minded than most, that's for sure. I certainly don't let a few minor flaws ruin a game for me, unless they're game breaking. To hear some people talk on this forum, you'd think the fate of the world hung on the success or failure of that game.
"Oh no, that game is flawed, we're all doooooooooomed!!!!!" ¬__¬

I am too, but I'm insulted for it because I don't like Halo, CoD, or most other (as they'd say) "Popular Games"

When no, I just don't care for what they do, but I'm yelled at for liking other games people don't hear about (because they didn't have as good a marketing budget)

Anyways, Yes I'm an open-minded gamer

HOWEVER I will admit I lost most my faith in Nintendo...

That what I've been trying to explain to people this whole time.

Its just some people don't read all the other comments made by me, and go "you have low expectations for games amirite?"

I'm an open minded gamer, but I don't think you mean the same thing by that as I do. Being open minded means you are willing to try all games equally, regardless of what you've seen or heard beforehand, and judge it on its own merits. That means you don't say `This game is a JRPG so I know it sucks and I'm not even going to play it', you say `This game is a JRPG but I haven't played it so I'll give it a chance just like any other game'. I'm just using JRPG as a random example, I don't actually hate JRPGs lol.

That's not what you're doing. What you're doing is liking a very wide range of games, no matter their faults. That's not being open minded, that's just having low standards. Sorry :p

I mean it's not necessarily a bad thing to have lower standards, maybe it just means the rest of us are too snooty. I've made games before, and it is fucking hard to do, even the simplest ones. I take great pride in the work that I do, but when it gets online people tell me off for being a bad designer. I learn from these experiences, but I always feel that I put much more work into these things than I'm getting out of them, simply because my audience wants something spectacular every single time. It's hard to wow us as gamers.

Still, I don't play a lot of low quality games. I don't have a whole lot of time to game to begin with, so when I do I only play the ones I think are the best :p
