Title says it all, really. Does anyone know of any good free (and I mean properly free, not Runescape free) MMORPGs for me to waste my time playing?

Allods Online is a pretty decent WoW-clone if you realise that it's free-to-play and therefore not exactly up to speed with bug fixes. :)

Well, I've been playing http://mabinogi.nexon.net/ for almost 2 years now, and I am still finding new crap to do in it. It gives you the option to buy stuff, but you don't need to. Very unique and fun combat system in my opinion.

Lord of the Rings Online will become F2P in a few months. As for games that are free right now... Well, I played Allods Online once, but when I saw the ridiculous cash shop prices and the patch notes of an upcoming patch that'd almost force you to use cash shop items, the fun kinda disappeared.

There is a semi-free MMORPG called Guild Wars. The game is broken up into four parts; three stand-alone campaigns and one expansion. If you want access to the content of any of the campaigns or the expansion, you need to buy them, but after your initial purchase the game is free forever. There is a cash shop in game, but its purpose is limited to a digital distribution system for the campaigns and the expansion, a 'Bonus Mission Pack', vanity costumes, and skill unlock packs, though those skills are only unlocked for PvP-only characters. Aside from that, Guild Wars is just plain fun; since you're limited to eight skills at any time and you can completely change your build for free whenever you're in a town or outpost (though you have to buy new skills, they remain unlocked for that character after buying them), it's got a great deal of depth.

Dungeons and Dragons Online and FLYFF are the only two I can think of, and neither of them is too bad (except maybe FLYFF). I'd give them both a try if I were in your situation.

I've recently quit runescape, out of the ones i've played its the most bearable, and after 5 years i felt it was time to call it quits
If you do play be aware that it is a massive time sink and it is highly addictive, also to get the most out of the game you need to pay a small subscription per month yet its one of the larger MMORPGS and you arent bound to certain classes as you can train whatever you want whenever you want, also you wont be able to powerlevel to the highest lv possible like in other games in a matter of weeks
I think SomethingAmazing summed it up pretty well and i'd advise not getting into them in the first place

I played FlyFF for quite a while and found it quite good. The cash shop isn't needed unless you want it because it mainly contains extra outfits and leveling help items which aren't essential. Quite a good class system and high level cap. I haven't played for a few years so some things may have changed a bit from what I remember.

Rising Force online is also quite good. 3 Races with 4 base classes for each race (except 1 race with doesn't have a magic class). Very PvP orientated once you've leveled a little bit, the different races regularly fight each other for control of the land and it's resources. Good backstory as well if you're interested in it.

I was planning on checking that out, what is the gameplay like?

OT: Try checking out Maplestory or maybe Guild Wars. Also, it might help if you mention what kind of gameplay and visual style you like.

If you like old school MMO's I would go for Mir 2 or Mir 3. If you want somthing which is pritty much free WoW go for Runes of Magic or Allods. ^_^

It is alright. The scenery is a little bland but the NPCs swear if you are impressed by that sought of thing. The combat works pretty well. Some skills hit multiple enemies, there are dots and everything else that wow has really. The sound effects are more visceral crunch sounds and there is plenty of blood that gets spattered on the ground. There are ragdoll physics on things killed. The monster transformations are pretty cool. Though the Nightmare part of the game is the most interesting. For an hour at midnight the lighting changes and most enemies in the zones change to different types and become really strong. A lot of the enemies are kinda creepy looking. All together a fun game. Combat works well, if not extremely original.

Hmm, the Nightmare thing sounds kinda interesting, and I'm not one to be worried by the looks of a game. As long as I can see what I'm doing, then I'm happy. And about the combat, is it fast-paced/ are there anything like combos and the like?
