Make him think you're pregnant by buying him Clive Barker's Jericho.
Nothing says, "Something's wrong." Like getting them that game as a gift.
I lol'd

ThinkGeek stuff is fun, but a bit expensive... Try to pool some money with his friends and get him something. Anything, my friends have given me a plush imp keyring and a drinking helmet for my B-day, along with new MP3 headphones to make up for my old ones some prick broke (though I usually use my PSP for music). Last year I got some WH Skaven miniatures and 2 bags of crisps. Another friend got me books (a paperback Poe collection and paperback Rolling Stones and U2 bios, it was a nice idea seeing I'm a music junkie).
My ex got me a music CD and a small plushie once. Following year she got me a DVD Player, but I felt bad while thinking of the price (although the player still rocks).
There are a lot of ideas, bake a cake, give him special Bday sexytime.

There are things that make a good voucher, apart from a funny card with "B-day gift voucher" on it (always buys some time, believe me) with a box of chocolate (try Kinder Surprise eggs :p). If you're broke, go for some chocolate and a card and save for a better present later, or go with the restaurant idea.

I'd love having a Pedobear shirt (for trolling purposes), you can get them at Wrong Tees.

You could invent a female variation on the "Dick in a Box" and make it "Box in a Box". But then you'd have to wear some kind of weird, square shaped underwear and that'd probably get in the way... so... just put a bow on it.
I fukken lol'd (though the bow is a very nice touch... why do I have to be at work ? Y_Y)

You know, my birthday is coming up and I wonder if my girlfriend is doing this on some other forum. I doubt it. Anyway, I would feel kind of cheated if I got sex for my birthday since that's something that happens pretty regularly anyway.

Last year she bought me the It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia season 1 and 2 DVDs. It was hilarious, though, because she showed it to me and then said "Okay, I'm too broke to give you this, so now we have to take it back to Best Buy. Can you drive me?" For some reason that was one of the better birthday presents I've ever gotten. I guess just the idea that she tried was enough.

So yeah, coming from a guy who has a birthday this month, don't worry about it. Do something special, but just let him know that you're short on cash. He probably already knows anyway.

Can't go wrong with Microsoft points. As others have pointed out, however, you don't have to spend a lot, or even anything at all, in order to do something meaningful, thoughtful, and appreciated.

I made my boyfriend a birthday cake one year (rectangular sheet cake), then iced it up to look like a level from Space Invaders, but the invaders were the logos for the PS2, the Dreamcast, the Xbox, and GameCube, and the cannon was the Atari logo. His birthdate was the score at the top. It wasn't perfect, but it got the point across, and he absolutely loved it.
Man, that would have been an awesome present. Creative genius FTW!

On-topic:

What about karaoke?

Some seriously stupid fun, right there.

Come to this of it, I like this idea the best. You should get him a collective punch to the internet.

LOL! You guys are awesome. Thanks everyone so much for all the suggestions. ^.^
Although I probably should have listed that he has a SNES, Wii, DS Lite, Xbox 360 and PS2. He's a gamer in the utmost sense of the word. He hung out at my old work 24/7, mainly for the games but sometimes to stare at me, and now works there. It's called GameCrazy ever heard of it?
Also, the t-shirt idea was great! I linked him to a random gamer shirt site on MSN (didn't want to link him to the ones posted above in case I get one from there and so does he) and he laughed at a couple of them, now I have sort of an idea of what he'd like...

And as far as taking an interest in his stuff? I play his CoD4 more than him, and he's addicted to it. We share most common things and never have any complaints against one another.

I think I might just make him the coupon book, get him drunk, and save up for a t-shirt for him that I'd walk into his room wearing... and nothing else. I'm sure he'd like that. =]

Once again, thanks everyone for coming together to help me it's soo appreciated. And you'll never scare me away! Yahtzee is here and I'd never leave him. <3

I've been thinking about this one for a while.

If you end up buying a game, pick up a box of cornflakes while you're out. Then take out some of the cereal and put the game inside. Then package it all back up, wrap it and give it to him.

Then, when he opens it up he'll probably be a little disappointed. Keep acting cheery and tell him to make you both some, and he'll get a nice suprise.

That's a very creative idea. I wish I could save up enough money to buy him some of the great games coming out in October then I could do this. =[

I'd be happy with just the Cornflakes. My girlfriend also cleans my apartment for me as a present. That is fucking awesome since I'm so damn lazy and messy.

Buy him beer.

EVERY man likes beer.
Not me. Guess that makes me a woman - a really hairy, ugly woman.

Hey, I can have lesbian sex with my wife! (There's always a silver lining in every dark cloud, albeit somewhat tarnished.)

If this stuff with him doesn't work out will you marry me? I'll fly over to your coast and everything.

So basically your combining everyone's idea's, that sounds good. Also spend the day relaxing with him and fighting over the controller. Good memories.

The gayness of that made me puke a little in mouth until 0:47. I laughed so hard I have tears. xD

And at Wombat, why? o_O
Should I be afraid now?

Jesus Christ... you're asking a bunch of strangers what your boyfriend will like?

Is this not the most pointless thread on this forum?

The fact that everyone else gave ideas which she took on board makes me think that it has accomplished the goal. She wanted ideas, she got them. o_O Explain to me the pointlessness of it all?

Should I be afraid now?
You should always be afraid.

Doesn't have to be a game. Could be anything. Mix the idea with the idea everyone else suggested and put a condom in there. Or put a box of condoms in there.

I'll stop now.

Actually, you could get him a ring or something hide it in a new, not emptied box of cereals, not say anything and let him search inside the full box of cereals like when we were looking for the toy* hidden inside when we were kids...

*(you can hide other things than a ring or a jewel, can be a small handmade pearl animal in a matchbox, a box of super extra libbed hyper lubricated lily-scented condoms, or whatever (maybe sex toys wouldn't be a good idea, but imagining your boyfriend pulling a dildo out of a box of cereals for his birthday makes me want to crash your party and take pictures for future laughs)
