Hi everyone,

I'm finally going to have my first tattoo finished today, so I thought I'd create a related thread. So:-

Do you have any tattoos?
Would you like to get/or are you planning on get a tattoo? (If the latter what are you planning on getting?)
Are you opposed to the idea of getting tattoos? (If so could you explain why)
If you could get any tattoo what would it be? (if there were no pain/stigma/financial implacations)

So I'd better tell you what I'm getting done. I have a cut throat razor on a floral backround, and today the colour is being finished.

Congratulations :)

I personally always wanted a tatoo, but the social reception of tattoos is still pretty questionable in Japan, so I did not get one.
I also worry about when I gain weight and grow old.

I have thought about getting a tattoo for a while now, well the start of a sleave actually (... the shoulder area... I want a couple of tattoos around the shoulder area...) but I keep thinking it will end up looking terrible and I'll have it for the rest of my life.

But if I knew it would look good it would involve the Decepticon logo, something from Battlestar, something game related (thinking a particular symbol from the halo series) all interconnected by a stylised chemical forumla for me.

I've always wanted one, but have never really settled on a design. Now that I think on it, something on the shoulder/sleeve probably would not warp too much with time/weight changes... But I don't know. I'm very fickle and can't really every decide on what to commit to (in all aspects of life. ... ahem).

I am turning 30 this summer, though, and I'm quite ready to make a lot of changes in life (not all of my own choice), so maybe a tattoo could be one of them. I'm going out with a friend tomorrow night who has probably a dozen tattoos, so she and I can discuss it, as hers are beautiful and always tasteful.

Now I just need to convince myself to spend the money...

You guys promise to have someone spell check your tattoos before you get them finalized, okay?

OT: Tattoos are fine, although I prefer them on the small/clean/tasteful side. Huge limb spanning tattoos, or wildly colorful tattoos, or tattoos in highly visible places such as the face or neck or hands leave something to be desired, but that's just me.

I view tattoos kind of like salt. A little bit goes a long way. Too much ruins the meal.

I was aware of the error after I posted but I hope that gave you a warm fuzzy feeling inside as clearly no one could understand my insane incomprehensible scrawlings without you. My hero =)

But yes, I shall have a spellchecker on hand per your request.

Anyhoo on topic I'm just to scared that ill regret any tattoos within a months time

I've got three tattos. Jin Kazama's tattoo on my life arm, a Cheshire Cat on my back (under my right shoulder) and a Leo tattoo elsewhere.

sweet, congratulations. I got my first one on my 18th birthday and proceeded to get 5 in just over a year. Totally not true that they are addictive honest

I want to get at least one but I'm not really sure what it should be, so I've held it off for ages. At the minute I'm sort of edging towards Norse mythology, possibly the two wolves that chase the sun and moon, but I'm not really sure on anything...

Whats the significance of the cutthroat razor? Or is it mostly for aesthetic appeal?

My one tattoo says "Tattoo" on my my back/shoulder :D

But visible tattoos can be a needless hindrance in some careers (like law), and self expression isnt worth career stagnation.

I only have one, I am not opposed to getting any more, but I haven't got any solid ideas on what I'd want to have so I don't have any plans as of yet.

Just follow the three golden rules:

Don't get one impulsively.
Don't get one of a partners name.
Don't get one where you can't hide it, unless you are working somewhere it doesn't matter.

I'd like a tattoo of the Opeth band logo. Not sure where on my body. Don't know if I'll ever bother to actually get it done though. Maybe some day.

Got one, have one more I think I could get but I think I'd rather expand the one I have.
What I have?
A Liverbird on my chest.

I have two so far.

One is Valar Morghulis, as displayed on my avatar.

The other is this:

The reaper, wings, scythe, and hourglass on my chest.

My next tattoo will be Valar Dohaeris on my right arm in the same fashion as Valar Morghulis, followed by the Bioshock wrist shackles.

I love my tattoos; I look at them every day and I still love them. Make sure you like what you're inking to yourself, or ten years later you will regret it.

I have Da Bank on my chest, daft idea but it's my body and my mistake. I also have a crucifix with a broken rosary around it on my left shoulder blade.

I don't really regret either, I'm working on designing a sleeve that will involve a cloaked man fighting puppets being controlled by a female puppet master, along with a light bulb with the fillament shaped to spell outElliott, creating a light to contrast the dark smoke that will be used as the filler within the tattoo, followed by a scroll with the whole 'Though I walk through the valley in the shadow of death... Etc' it all sounds a bit crazy but if it goes as I imagine then it should be great.

I have q friend with a sleeve full of game, cartoon and movie characters that looks awesome. He has Soundwave, Kirby, Mario, Ice Climbers etc.

Ideally, I'd get both of these

If someone recognises it, that's pretty awesome. If not, I can say it represents the nature of the world - to get something, something of equal value must be lost. It could be time, work or anything else.

Same as above, it's great if someone recognises it. If not, it represents the pillars of a great person: power, wisdom and courage.
