That's right, I am an American who actually needs help gaining weight. I am 17 years old, 6 foot 1, and only 145 pounds. I have a very high metabolism that makes it very hard to gain weight. When I stopped growing in height, I was 180 pounds. A year later, and I'm down to 145.

Right now I am eating as much as I can. Yesterday for lunch I had a Monster Burger from Red Robins, 2 Dr. Peppers, and the fries that came with. I had to force myself to keep eating. Every night I eat tons and tons of junk food, yet I gain no weight. I'm not even getting enough excercise to lose the weight.

All of my jeans are too big, and I might need to make another notch on my really nice high quality belt. So other than over-eating, what else can I be doing to gain weight?

You American? are you sure? this is shocking! Call the press!.

Stop eating shit, eat healthy, You want to bulk up? Have eggs, meat, high nutritional stuff. make your own drinks from Other vegitables or fruit, it works both ways you know, Try exercising plenty.

I beleive there is a man named scooby who does a working out Video, he goes through it all really, what you should eat to bulk up and gain weight, on youtube.

Yes it seems like it should be counter productive but its not.

I was eating healthy a few months ago. I didn't notice any change.

It's not hat I want to bulk up. I'm not looking to get stronger, just to increase my overall weight and wasteline. And how would excercising help gain weight?

Don't try to gain weight by eating unhealthy. Go to the gym, do weights, beef up, and eat alot of protein.

Gain muscle. Join a gym or start lifting weights on your own. Up your daily protein intake to 1 gram per pound of body weight +1 gram per desired pound to gain. If you just try and put on fat now then you're going to end up tubby when you get older and you won't be able to drop the weight.

Then do eat what it says but dont burn off the calories, you just get heavy then.

Muscle is built and however so small, and the mass increases your overall weight

Can i ask why you want to be heavier?

Don't stop working out. Just change the way you do it. Less cardio and more weights. Eventually you'll begin to build muscle and gain weight, as opposed to putting on the pounds by eating crap.

Keep eating, but don't force it. You may lose weight at first because it takes time to build muscle but it will come if you keep it constant. Also remember, lower weight, higher reps is a lot better for your body than proving you can lift a higher weight once or twice.

Sugar and fat aren't always the best way of weight gain. I have the exact same problem. I'm 17, just shy of 6 ft., and I weigh around 140-150. I also run cross country in the fall and wrestle in the winter. I actually end up gaining a lot of weight during wrestling season because of a much greater protein intake. I eat pretty well and I gain a little bit of leg muscle during cross country season, but during wrestling season where I'm working out and eating lots of protein I gain upwards of 10 or 15 pounds, putting my weight in the 150-170 range. Usually I get lazy during the spring and lose the muscle weight.

But anyways with a greater metabolism, for weight gain you're better off using that metabolism to help you gain muscle mass. Working out, eating protein bars or drinking protein shakes, eating foods high in protein (meats, nuts, peanut butter), and things like that are the best way for someone with a higher metabolism to gain weight.

P.S.- I used to eat competitively and actually weighed less when I did. Not quite sure why.

I have the same problem, my friend. Not much for us to do. But let me tell you, my dad had the same problem when he was a kid. Now he is slightly chubby (said in being kind to my dad). The point: it has a chance of catching up to you. Don't overdo it. Take it as it is. When the weight finally catches up you'll probably be sorry you wanted the weight in the first place.

Hey I'm worse off than you (and American) 16 years old, 5' 6", 100 lbs. And an avid junk food eater who usually goes for seconds.

Stupid metabolism...

Are any of you doing any serious drugs? (just wondering, since that might be the cause, junkies DO tend to get amazingly skinny).

*THAT* point aside, I recommend taking a look at some muscle and fitness magazines. Nothing wrong with putting on healthy weight, indeed it's a common practice as MANY people who tone up decide they want to be stronger and gradually put on and condition extra pounds. "Bulking Up" is a time honored tradition.

This is incidently why you see guys drinking protein shakes with a raw egg on top and junk like that (immortalized in movies). I can't give any good formulas right now, and tastes vary.

Truthfully if your low weight doesn't have other causes, consider going to a store like GNC (General Nuitrition Center) they have weight gainers and stuff like that intended for people who want to put on healthy pounds. While I'm a flabby wreck and don't do stuff like this anymore, I *WILL* say it's best that you do this while gradually working on pumping iron. Even if you start out pumping a "lulzy" 10 pound bar without any weights on it, anything helps. Many years ago I started with 30 pounds . Nobody is around, so who cares?

Eat lots of healthy foods, and make sure you get enough protein. Excursive regularly, you'll build healthy body mass, and even if you don't it will make you more healthy. Weight isn't the be all guide to your physical health. I have had this problem too due to my stomach not holding a great deal of food before it um.. wants to empty itself the way it came, and I have always had more luck snacking throughout the day on good food, and exercising at the same time. It will make you feel alot better than eating tons of junk too.
Edit: it might also be a good idea to visit a nutritionist they can give you some great help in what you should eat to be healthy all round.
