I'm indecisive, and I have an ever increasing backlog of games

Just wave your finger around the screen, close your eyes, poke the screen, play whatever your finger is on. Do it.

I was about to say "why make a forum thread? Just use the Fortune Cookie option", but then I realized that you probably don't have your backlog at the Backloggery...

Anyway, since I spotted Valkyria Chronicles on your list, I'm just gonna recommend that. I'm totally not biased or anything, I swear!

Heh, I have the same problem. I spend so much time just thinking about which game to play that I end up not playing anything at all sometimes.

Looking at your list, I would start off with something short and sweet. I haven't played Vanquish yet, but it seems like it would be a good pick.

The Gothic games. Great story and atmosphere and a decent gameplay, despite the occasional bug. Be prepared to sink some time in them, though. If you want to finish all three you'll be busy a while.

Also try to get the 'Night of the Raven' expansion for Gothic 2, it's great. But forget about the Gothic 3 expansion. Never played it myself, but all sources say it's unplayable due to the many bugs.

I think you should play more new games. You clearly don't get an extra buzz from finishing them so if your enjoyment comes from just playing new games and having a look into their worlds and people or mechanics then just keep doing that.

If you are really set on finishing some for the sake of finishing them, finish the one you're closest to finishing so given the 1-20 hour thing definitely NOT FFXIII as that will probably take another 20 hours.

Good collection and taste in gaming :D

But you really need to beat more of them, I suggest you make a promise to yourself that you won't buy a new game unless you have beaten two from you collection.

I buy alot of games, more than I can play, however I always try to make sure I get my monies worth from each one. So if I buy a game I don't have time to play I put it on my gaming shelf unplayed and still in it's shrink wrap if it's new while I continue playing my current game.

If the games arn't holding your attention for the duration you need to ask yourself why, is it you or the game?

The best games off that list (in my book) are:
Persona 3
Okami
Resident Evil 4
Planescape Torment
Metroid Prime

The best ones if you're focusing on shortening that list:
Beyond Good & Evil
Fallout
XIII
Muramasa

How long do you stick around with a game before you switch?

Actually I think you should say bugger the list and drop some money on Marvel Pinball and the Avengers Chronicles DLC. . . . . ok maybe that's what I did but it's damn fine game that is sucking hours of my life away daily. Stupid Infinity Gauntlet table!

You think you have it bad. I have a MAME cabinet with full sets of games from Odyssey through N64 and damn near every arcade game released all the way up to around the late 90s. You know what I play most though? Do ya? With all those games in front of me in that one cabinet as well as big ass libraries of PS3 games I've bought and haven't touched since taking them out of the bag? The game I play instead of all those is . . . . . my sit down Ms Pacman cocktail table!

Enough about me though on to your problems! Honestly I think you need to trim the list down a bit and get rid of some of those games. There are some games on that list you should get down on your hands and knees and thank god you haven't played already (I'm looking at you Age of Conan).

I'd go through them system by system focusing on maybe two systems at a time. Maybe pick an older system like the PSX and then a newer system like the 360 and pick games of different genres to focus on that way depending on how you feel you have a little bit of variety.

That being said I know I still haven't named any specific games so I'll pick out a top 20, in my opinion, from the list that I would want to tackle if I were you. In no Particular Order . . .

* Baldur's Gate 1&2
* Batman Arkham City
* Portal 1&2
* Legend of Dragoon
* Final Fantasy X
* Infamous 2
* Beyond Good and Evil
* Metroid Prime
* Bioshock
* Braid
* Fallout
* Half Life 2
* Icewind Dale I&2
* Planescape Torment
* Plants vs Zombie
* Psychonauts
* Torchlight
* Skyrim
* Star Wars: Knights of The Old Republic
* The Witcher 1&2

Portal is pretty short, and it truly is a great game, so you have no excuse to not finish that.

Aside from that one, I would suggest completing Okami and The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword.

If you have an extra 40-50 hours laying around you should play through The Legend of Dragoon. It's honestly one of my favorite RPGs/games ever and really deserves more attention.

HAHA! HAHAHA!

You have over 300 games to play?

I have over 500. On PC alone! XD
(Including the Arcade machine? Over 1000. Excluding arcade machine? About 1000)

Remember, when all else fails, Monster Hunter.
(Its what I default to! XD)

Same here, when I got into emulation and doujin (I've well over 1 TeraB of the stuff), I spent a year or two playing just shmups and platformers for free while still buying new PC games many of which I still haven't gotten around to playing.

Still all those games are free so it doesn't matter if I never play them.

Man seeing this list makes me feel so much better about my own game backlog (only 20 odd games). I'd suggest starting on the shorter games to get the ball rolling. I find if you try playing long games when you've got a massive backlog causes you to not enjoy the experience as much as you rush through it to check it off the list.

Why have you not finished Persona 3?

It's such a great game! Sure, it gets a bit repetitive, but the ending is spectacular. And sad.

Also, you should play InFamous 2.

Some of these are great games but would take a while to get into, like Arcanum, Silent Hill 3 or Final Fantasy X. Don't go into them with a "backlog clearing" mindset, it'll diminish the fun.

That being said, Limbo and Braid are short and really good.

Beyond Good and Evil is one of the most charming video game experiences I've ever had, and is good from start to finish.

Resident Evil 4 is a fantastic experience, play that as soon as you can. The Resident Evil remake on Gamecube is really good as well, but is slow at times.

Metroid Prime is always good, haven't played the Wii trilogy but I heard it makes good use of the controller.

Deus Ex is possibly the best single player experience of all time. Play that when you're ready for a paradigm shift.

If you want something with immediate payoff though, try Amnesia: The Dark Descent. There's life before that game, and life after that game. What happens in the middle, we don't like to speak about.

Surprised you haven't played Skyrim yet, go get it! Everyone I know that's tried it has liked it. There's a little bit for everyone.

Vanquish is on my list too. I really haven't played a Japanese shooter in a while and I loved the demo. It's kind of like DMC-paced action with a bit of cover based shooting and a nano-suit on lend from Crysis.

Want to be retro? Metal Slug is just superb. Absolutely my favorite arcade-style game ever.

PS. YOU'RE GREAT (People who play Metal Slug remember this)
