I no longer own a functional PS2. Is there anything I can do to enjoy these games? BTW they don't seem to appear at any shop here in Spain. Is there any way to emulate them or is there going to be any HD rerelease?

Thank you in advance.

The Playstation Network has Persona 3 FES for the PS3 in the "PS2 Classics" section and Persona 3 Portable for the PSP or Vita, and Persona 4 Golden is an updated re-release of Persona 4 for the Vita.

As for the earlier games, I believe 2 is also on the PSN, but I'm not positive about it. The first two are significantly different than the latter two, though, and most fans seem to prefer 3 and 4.

If you don't have a PS3 and/or Vita, but do have a powerful PC, PCSX2 is a pretty damn good PS2 emulator; but it's technically illegal if you don't use BIOS lifted from your own PS2 and definitely illegal if you are emulating games that you don't physically own (PCSX2 will run PS2 games direct from the disc in a normal DVD-drive).

Stupid kid question: Will the Persona editions for the Vista/Vita work on the PS3? You're buying them on the PS3 so I have a slim glimmer of hope there but I'm guessing not...

I have also always wanted to get into the Persona games but I've never owned the system needed to play them :(

Now I need to decide if I want to get a VITA so I can play Persona (and Valkryia Chronicles II) or if I should get a 3DS for Fire Emblem...stupid life not giving me lots of money to just buy everything I want *Grumble grumble...

Well, the Vita can access the PSN too, you know. :D

P3P and P4: Golden won't work on the PS3, from what I know. Golden is an actual physical Vita game, and P3P is one of the titles that was updated to be compatible with the Vita since it changed away from using UMDs.

Use PCSX2. It's an emulator for PS2 on PC that you're free to use as long as you have the game copies and a PS2 BIOS. It takes a good machine to run it, but PCSX2 should work with no problem, what with the machines coming out these days.

Hold it there mister!

...the Vita can access the PSN thing? I have a PS3 but I know next to nothing about Sony's handhelds due to...well...never owning one. Does that mean that PSN games will work on the Vita (well, the NOT PS3 ones at least but like, the PS2/PS1 games)?

I may have to investigate this. Shrekfan246, you may have just given Sony a new customer! Feel free to email them about it and see if they'll give you a 1% royalty or something :)

Yeah, the Vita has access to the PSN, as long as you've got wireless internet. It doesn't have a section for PS2 classics from what I've seen, but it's got all of the PS1 games, PSP games, and PS Vita games that are currently on the PSN. I've got Final Fantasy VII and IX, and Persona 3 Portable on my Vita. :D

The memory cards are expensive as hell though, and you will need a spare and/or large one if you're buying a bunch of downloadable titles.

Well my advice would be to buy a functional 2nd hand PS2 because they are ridiculously cheap and then you can play any PS2 game you would like on it as well as almost any PS1 game.

Rerelease wise get a PSP for Persona 3 or Vita for Persona 4 but thats a pretty expensive option to get a game thats only slightly upgraded from a PS2 game.

Yeah, I got a used one two years ago for around 40?. You could probably get it for even less now. Definitely the cheapest option, unless you go for the emulator.

I remember now why I talked myself out of buying a Vita when it first came out now; You can't use third-party Memory Cards (though I'm sure someone's figured out how to do it by now) and the first-party memory cards are stupid expensive.

I suppose though if Persona 3 is downloadable on the PS3, maybe I'll go give that one a shot and then decide if I like the series enough to restart my Vita/3DS internal debate.

Well I didn't know that I think I will get a Vita soon. I've been on the fence about it maybe I should maybe I shouldn't but access to PS1 games as well as PSP and all the games coming out for it? Yeah I think I'll try it. The memory card thing kind of sucks but what are you guna do?

The US has working HD released for the PS3 of Persona 3 FES and Persona 4 (not entirely sure about 4) but neither of them have come across to Europe yet. I'm hoping it's on the way and will be here soon

I'm more surprised that people didn't realise that the Vita could browse the PSN and PS Store and didn't know that there are PSP/PS1 classics available. On a side note, Sony is considering PS2 classics for the Vita as well after a poll on their website.

No, no one has figured that out. Due to the particular size and shape of the in slot for the Vita memory cards, it's impossible to fit a regular SD stick in there. It sucks, but them's the sticks. I love the evrloving crap out of my Vita anyway. Playing Crash/Spyro as well as top notch Vita games like P4G and Gravity Rush convinced me the investment was worth it.

Some people even get by by simply subscribing to the PSN and playing the free games that go up on the PSN. Ninja Gaiden Sigma+ just went up a week ago for free and there's a bunch of other free titles already on there. I snagged WipeOut 2048, Uncharted: Golden Abyss and Retro City Rampage recently. They cycled a few out already but they cycle new games in for free every month and once you download them they're yours forever as long as you remain subscribed to PSN which is cheap as chips.

It's a great handheld that's held back by its high gate of entry (price) but I think every cent was worth it. I even bought the 3G version and don't use the 3G but don't consider it a waste. But take my advice and get the wi-fi version.
