Firstly I'd like to point out that the anti-MLP faction has to be the saddest attempt at trolling ever. And I say that, knowing that there are people who troll Cabbage Patch Kids websites.
Unsuccessful troll is...annoying as shit, so tell them to stop it.
Anyway.
You know what I really hate? I genuinely hate "art". Not the abstract concept of art since that has no meaning whatsoever and is irrelevant to me. I mean I hate things like artsy movies and games and books etc, they annoy the shit out of me. Arty films are the absolute worse though. I hate their fans because they look down their fucking noses at normal people, I hate the little clannish film festivals, I hate how film schools fill people's heads with this crap, I hate how people think it's "intelligent" when usually these movies either have no plot whatsoever or plots so obtuse as to be non-existent by default. Never mind that every indie movie I've ever seen has almost the exact same plot...ok that's not entirely fair, see there are only about three artsy movie plots, four if you count sub-genres, and every single one adheres to these plots with such intensity you'd almost think it was religious scripture. Perhaps my favorite though is the "gay man, rejected by his family, finds out he is dying of _____ and tries to reconcile with them" plot because it is so fucking specific. I've seen at least five arthouse movies in that genre. The kind of ridiculous, insecure film school assholes that make this shit are so intent on sticking it to whoever they wish to stick it too, and their fans so intent on proving how deep they are, it really is almost a laughingstock. But it stops being funny the minute I realized just how insidious and widespread this was getting and now I just fucking hate arty anything.
On a similar note:
I hate Scott Pilgrim and fans thereof. It was a shitty comic, written by shitty people, made into a shitty movie with bad acting and an even worse plot. Fuck this franchise and the Hipsters it rode in on. At heart, Scott Pilgrim is a rip off of the trials of Hercules and not a good one, but that's not a problem that story has been ripped off so many times before that it's a genre onto itself. I mean I've seen an animated version with mice for God's sake so clearly Bryan Lee whatshisname and Edgar Wright are just following form. My problem is that this story is so retarded it goes beyond, far far beyond, anything resembling logic. It promotes the worst kind of insipid hipster nonsense and frankly the franchise as a whole makes a mockery of several things that I love, such as video games and comic books, while also completely missing the point of them. And the way that it has become the go to movie for snobs and assholes who seem to associate with the equally snobbish and assholish subcultures it lionizes only makes me hate it more. There are very few movies I've ever left the theater ANGRY at, but Scott Pilgrim was one of them. Worse yet everything else Bryan Lee Booth or whatever his name is has made is even MORE obnoxious and even MORE inane somehow, including this one ditty I read of called "Hopeless Savages" which was so asinine that it made me bleed from the eyes like a forbidden tome of knowledge in a Lovecraft story.
I hate, on a genuine level, Bob Chipman because his every breath and thought affronts me and his obsession with Mario and reliving some non-existent childhood he thinks he had is beyond annoying and childish. It seems like every other video he makes (of his like eight hundred video series now) is either pissing me off or simply making me want to declare a Jihad on this idiot before he converts someone to his insipid beliefs. And it's not even like his belief system is sustainable: effectively he hates FPS games (and their players, and shows open contempt for them and insults them whenever the chance arrives) because they dethroned mascot games, but the only real reason he likes mascot games is because that means Mario, and Moviebob seems fixated on Mario. He fills the world he lives in with Mario and references to Mario and idolizes Mario in a very disturbing way. And ostensibly he does so because it apparently reminds him of his childhood, a childhood that I increasingly come to believe either didn't happen (like he was really very unhappy as a kid and is fantasizing about how his life could have been) or which happened but has been so fetishized by his myopic little mind that it has become a fantasy. In short, he disturbs me, pisses me off, insults millions of people on a regular basis, and don't even get me started on his asinine views on movies, fetishizing pop culture...I mean, Christ. Fuck Bob Chipman. Fuck him.
I hate people who complain about companies trying to stop used games, not realizing that used games are more a danger to these companies functioning than piracy ever will be but what I REALLY hate is people who run used game shops who then complain that someone is trying to end their racket while they con people into paying 40 bucks for a used game, so they can take all the profit and give zero to the guy who actually makes the damn thing. Because obviously guys that's not grifting at all...OH WAIT! See the thing is this, the argument that used game sellers have is basically that they depend on this to make a real profit. But the problem is that they're not supposed to make that kind of profit and for good reason: they have done nothing to deserve it. The company makes the game, you pay for it, they are at best a middle man and at worse a time sink between seeing the game and playing it. These game shops are money pits and they depend on used games to function. But the company gets precisely zero money from used game sales and they get ALL of the profit...this is beyond a scam, this in any other context would be illegal. This is selling you stuff out of the back of a stolen cargo truck bad, and at heart it is indefensible. I'm actually willing to accept piracy, in that some people genuinely do not have the money to buy a game new...but if you have the money to buy it used, you can buy it new too, so that argument is invalid. A new game is 60 bucks, a used one is 40, that's twenty bucks less. You can afford it new. Just wait a second and save up some more money.
I hate being told that games need to be "accepted as an artform" because what that REALLY means is, games need to stop being GAMES and need to start being bullshit to impress artsy people so some small group of hipsters and nerds can feel slightly less inadequate. But really that's all art is: something to make people feel less embarrassed about what they like by allowing them to claim it is now art. Don't let the Extra Credits guys fool you--there is a reason they constantly say they don't want EVERY game to be art, yet they then seconds later say something that CLEARLY indicates that they do. That reason is (SPOILERS) they're lying the first time. What these people really want is to make games acceptable in the eyes of a few snobs somewhere, so they can then feel superior and "smart" by being accepted at the nerd big boys table. It's a dick measuring contest with nerds, meaning it's a very short dick measuring contest. This is the same mentality behind artsy comic books (OOH, I'm sorry, I mean graphic novels!) and everything else. You just can't admit you like playing with toys, or reading children's literature, because you're impotent and weak and scared of being mocked for being impotent and weak, and so you scramble to find alleged respectability and you do so at the cost of the thing you really love. There's probably a moral in there somewhere...oh I know: stop being stupid!
Speaking of inadequate I hate people who criticize games with beautiful women in them (DOA, for example) by claiming it's "sexist". Firstly, no it isn't, because sexism doesn't actually exist...that's a discussion for another time, and involves very old racial discrimination and the political power and standing of white women in Western society, but trust me as a black guy when I say that feminism is basically an offshoot of racism that somehow caught on as a meme. Secondly even if that weren't the case, women engage in as much or more "sexism" (assuming here sexism means "masturbating to attractive people of the opposite sex") as men do. Go to any romance novel and you'll find just as many depictions of sexy men, hell most of them are TOPLESS! OMG SEXISM! Thirdly even if ALL THAT weren't true (it is true, btw) it would STILL not make these games sexist, simply because the general term is used to mean depicting women as inferior to men, and never have any of the DOA girls, Lara Croft, the Soul Caliber girls etc ever been shown to be inferior to anyone...in fact most of them are so hyper-competent as to be implausible. And finally, the argument that it gives men unrealistic ideals is silly since they are hardly unrealistic. Not only are there actual women who look that way (models, for example) but there are ways to look that way too. What it really does is that it makes unattractive people feel bad...just like all those guys who call Justin Bieber gay because, really, they know he's getting laid more than them. It's just the impotent, grasping response of a loser groping for a comeback and failing.
