I'm new to comics. Are volumes supposed to wildly fluctuate in and out of print?

So I've started getting into some DC comics, just their collected volumes, and I went to order Wonder Woman: Warkiller. But it's been out of print for what I assume is a good while now. Meanwhile, the first volume of that series (Who Is Wonder Woman) is still available on store shelves. So, Volume 7 is out of print and rare, but Volume 1 is easily available most everywhere.

Is that... is that supposed to happen? I... I don't... get it. Anyone with experience with trade paper/hardbacks and such that could shed some light on how the process actually works? Cos I'm utterly confused.

That's pretty unusual, actually. Not sure why it's happening, but I know that's not how things usually go; either they're all available or none of them are.

One reason for that is No.1's usually sell really well, so they tend to print a lot more. Other then that I have no idea why that should happen.

See, I felt that too. Perhaps it's because I prefer to buy large omnibuses instead of individual volumes, or because I have a habit of buying the first issue of a series that never even reached it's fourth.

Could be that I normally buy my comics from waterstones, there is a couple of actual comic book shops around, but to be honest they don't have the omnibuses I like to buy, and for some reason that I can't quite pinpoint, they make me a little nervous. It's like I know that everyone there knows that I am completely and utterly lost.

Either way, it's one of the annoying reasons that I can't really get in to comics that much.

I might have to find an omnibus of this series. The arc might actually have been folded into another volume at some point, too. I'll have to look it up.

Yeah, first place I tried. Lowest price it goes for is about $40 sans shipping, and the ISBN code reports it has been out of print for a while.

Amazon.com might have it.
I can find it, it's expensive but I can find it... I'm just confused as to why it's gone out of print so fast (within two years or so) when other volumes around it (even Volume 8, it's Volume 7) are readily available. I'm willing to pay for it even... I'm just wondering why I have to pay through the nose for it while every other volume in the series I can find for less than a twenty.

Because a lot of people only buy the first volumes (like Marvel's Annihilation V1, Annihilation Conquest V1) or the special tie-ins (like with Guardians of the Galaxy V2 &3).

But I do agree with you it is quite annoying.

If you just want the story (not the actual book) you can still buy the digital versions of the original comics here [http://www.readdcentertainment.com/Wonder-Woman-2006-2011/comics-series/467?pg=2]. It's #34-39.

I know that's not the same thing, but at least it's better then nothing... I hope...
