Ah man, PSP is my second favourite console, PS3 first of course, its a great handheld.

There are loads of random good RPG's just delve into a shelf and you usually pull out some obscure RPG or JRPG, I have FF7 on my PSP as well, and Crisis core which is an amazing game.

Monster Hunter will also keep you occupied for well over a hundred hours :)
How'd you manage to get FFVII on your PSP? And definitely monster hunter, even better if you have friends who own it as well.
FF7 is for sale on PSN if you didn't know
Do you need a PSP GO to download from PSN? Or can you do that with the PSP L&S as well?
You can use any kind of PSP (or even PS3) for downloadable games, as long as you have a wireless connection obviously

Although since the PSP GO only uses Downloadable games it will have alot more of a selection
Oh snap, did not know it was on there! (rushes off to download it)

RPGs aren't so hot on the PSP but do get Final Fantasy Tactics because it's really rather good. Also Crush which is totally different but excellent in its own right. Rock Band Unplugged is actually a lot of fun if you're up for something different and you should try the Castlevania pack.

Coded Arms was a good Psp game.
Edit: It's not an rpg (Sorry.), but i enjoyed it. Except when exploding bugs latch to your face.

I'd recommend all the FF games on it and Star Ocean First Departure and Second Evolution, also WipeOut Pure and Pulse.

Brave Story: New Traveler
Pretty overlooked RPG. It's pretty classic in its gameplay. World maps, turn-based combat, all the good stuff that's missing from most RPGs these days.

But the kinds of PC RPGs you mentioned are action RPGs, so, I'm guessing neither Final Fantasy nor Brave Story is necessarily up your alley.
I suggest checking out Untold Kingdoms, or Phantasy Star Portable, or something of the sort.

Good RPGs?

Uuuuuhhhh..... o.o"
Well, there's always the remakes/downloadables, such as
Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth,
Disgaea 1/2,
Persona (though I'm personally waiting to see if Atlus comes out with Persona 2 <3 that would make my year),
Yygdra Union (a remake of a GBA game),
Riviera: The Promised Land (another GBA remake, personally my favorite :3 ),
FF7 (PSN Store; I'm personally not much for it but its popular),
Suidoken 1 (PSN Store),
and so on.

Really, there aren't many original RPGs for the PSP (ie- ones that aren't remakes/re-releases), and those that are really aren't that good, as far as I've heard. Though I have hear good things about Prinny: Can I really be the hero?, that game is more of a platformer (and apparently, a difficult one) than an RPG. I haven't played much of my PSP since I have trouble keeping handhelds in one piece ^-^" For some reason, pieces keep breaking on them, even when I'm careful not to break them T_T;

Yeah it really looks like there aren't any decent non-JRPG RPGs for the PSP, a real shame. But I can live with that, changing my focus to adventure games and platformers like Prinny (thanks for the tip swytchblayd!) and Marvel: Ultimate Alliance. Thanks everyone for the input! Now I only have to wait until Christmas...

If it hasn't been said yet: Monster Hunter Freedom Unite 2 or whatever the bloody newest version for PSP is. It's actually rather fun, I plan on getting Tri on the Wii next year. Yes, the Wii finally has a game that ISNT Mario/Zelda.

Yeah it's on PSN, was £7.99, you can play it through PS3 or copy it onto PSP, ive got MGS1 and Sim City crammed on there as well.
I'm confused. Is every game available on the PSN also available for the PSP? For instance Braid is coming to PSN [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/7.161137] but does this also mean it will be available on PSP?

-Final Fantasy (the remake of the first game)
-God of War: Chains of Olympus
-Star Wars Battlefront 2 (if you don't have it on the PS2)
-Star Wars Battlefront Renegade Squadron
-Killzone Liberation
-Daxter

other than that, there aren't a whole lot of great games for the PSP

RPGs? eh, I'm not a big RPG guy. I've been contemplating getting a PSP but of the games I want none of them are RPGs.

Pretty sure its only thos PS! classics as well as all the PSP games they have for the PSPGO now.

not all games on there would work/could be handled by the PSP.

Marvel vs Capcom 2 for example, the PSP Might be able to handle it proccesor-wise but the psp only has 2 houlder buttons not 4, which would make the game an arse to play

OT: Castlevania is a good one, Symphony of the night was shorter than i expected though...still good
CC:FF7 and Dissidia:FF are both very well worth it
Valkyrie Profile is worth a look, but its not perfect. Unskippable story scenes are always a pain on repeat playthroughs, and i often forgot here the hell i was supposed to be going, had no idea (Faqs werent much help either) and ended up starting again (think its the 4th try now, am currently stuck in a dungeon and havent played it for a couple of months...The game is worth a look though, im probably just dense)

I don't know any RPGs, but for the PSP as in good game, I'd say Syphon Filter:Logan's Shadow

If you haven't had a console and are really into RPG's I too would suggest getting FF7 off the PSN and then buying Crisis Core!

Ofc Final Fantasy isn't everyone's cup of tea but I hope you can find some enjoyment in it : ) x

It appear you are right about only having a selection of the games available through the online store. No Castlevania for PSP Go for example... But Rock Band absolutely rocks, and I think my next game will be Prinny.

Check out the PSN Classics selection. Symphony of the Night is on there, and there may be others.
