I do believe I've felt like this before. I felt somewhat ashamed upon realizing it. I've taken to doing more productive things now, on top of gaming.

Pace yourself. Plug in an old system that hasn't seen the light of day in a while. Invite a friend. Play something that you would otherwise ignor. OR get a web cam, get footage of your favorite games, toys, or whatever, and make a review show about it. Hell, anything to break the boredom.
That's what I'm gonna end up doing, popping in my Sega Collection for my 360 and rock out some Sonic 2 and 3, Altered Beast, Comix Zone, and Kid Chameleon. Sometimes you gotta look into the past to make it to the future.
Sega games kicked ass (at least most of the Genisis ones) and you will likely find some reasons why your old games were your favorite. And reviewing them always makes you observe them diffrently. For example, I just finished a FFVII playthrough, and hell, I know why I like the game in spite of the many faults. Resident Evil 2&3 are the same.

I would love to play through RE 2 and 3, but they're my uncle's, and he lives in Texas. Survival Horror is by far my favorite genre of game.

But I am gonna do some runthroughs of Sonic 3. Should keep me more than entertained for awhile. Hard to imagine how something so simplistic like running really fast in a ball is more entertaining than dropping nukes on 12 year old brats.

Easily, I am in such a rut right now in fact. I find myself just playing Civ 4: Rise of Mankind in the background just as something to do. Not because it is fun, though not to say Civ 4 isn't but when your sitting on such an advanced army you could win the game but don't because then you would have to restart... well fun isn't the word to describe such insanity.

So why am I playing such a game? Well doesn't require input! It is background noise that I can leave running while I focus on other, more interesting, things. Any time I load up something like MW2 these days I find even the first round so boring I can't stomach to play another. Most of the time I end up just walking away half way through the game, that little does it hold my interest. Loaded up a few other games and they could, if they where lucky, hold my attention for two or three rounds but... same thing.

I'm just tired of games. Hell I spent a few hours I could be gaming watching TV instead. Ok, maybe not a big thing for someone else but if it wasn't for the fact this monitor doubles as one I wouldn't even have access to a TV. Nothing really at all worth watching on the damn thing that I couldn't just DL online anyway, so channel surfing is a good indication I am that burnt out.

All I can say: Just leave gaming for a while. Get outside and do something... read a book! Started doing that one again recently, Jim Butcher is a talented writer and his latest Dresden Files book is quite gripping.

Yeah. I don't know if ashamed is how I'd put it, but when I started feeling like this, I just started thinking, "I've put so much time and money into various games. I don't want to be done with them." Its just a phase, and if I am done with them, I'll move on to, like you said, more productive things. Games are hardly my life.

I got bored with TF2 for a little bit. But I got better.

It happens a lot when every other game is FPS. Try out an entirely different genre? Puzzles and platforming and the like can be immensely gratifying.

i know what u mean dude. MW2 is just a meh game. cod 4 only got old after just over a year, MW2 got old in a month (mostly due to glitches, modders, and the community being complete shit) but i just cant find a replacement for it. the only upside to it is, when i have fun on that game i have FUN on that game. i am just waiting till somethign else pops up. BC2 came close, but too many snipers, and spawns as bad as MW2 ruin it too.

Whenever I am playing a game that is becoming tiresome to play, I just.. switch to a different game. I have a rather large list of games I haven't finished yet so it's not such a bad thing to keep switching around. Also, because I never trade or sell any of my games, I have a rather large library of games to choose from. So, why not pick up on a game you may have set aside at some point.

I tend to keep up with a particular activity until it bores me and then I move on to something else, alternating through several different choices until whatever was boring me before seems entertaining again.

Right now I've been playing the living shit out of Fallout 3 for the last week or so in a mad push to get every achievement for it, quite frankly I'm starting to get sick of it and the 360 in general. Once I thoroughly defeat Fallout 3 I'll probably put the controller down and likely not touch my 360 for at least three or four weeks. In the mean time, there are some book [http://www.amazon.com/Composite-Construction-Homebuilt-Aircraft-How/dp/0938716263/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1271741986&sr=8-1]s that I need to finish reading before they're due at the library on the first, so the next several weeks are going to be a giant book reading orgy I'll likely devote many hours of each day to.

After that goes on for about a month it'll stop being so entertaining for me, the books will get put down and I'll move on to something else. Possibly catching up on TV shows I like (If the next season of Breaking Bad is out, I haven't checked yet) and re-watching old favorites (Week long Babylon 5 fest! Yeah!).

Eventually, TV will begin to bore the shit out of me also. Now I haven't checked a lot of my favorite blogs or webcomics for a long time. So then I'll spend a couple days looking at all of those for anything I've missed. After a number of days spending ten-plus hours on the computer each day I'll be quite ready to do something else.

About at this point I haven't so much as looked in my 360's general direction for weeks. Hey I had almost all of the achievements for Mass Effect 2 and one more play-through should do it, besides which I was kind of thinking about that game lately...

...

As such, the circle of life continues.

I'm gonna revert back to some old Sega games, because blasts from the past are always refreshing. Good 'ole Sonic.

I went through a similar phase like this a couple months back, but that was just with a specific genre, survival horror. At the time, all of the games I hadn't beaten were survival horror, and while it is my favorite genre of game, they aren't really the type you can just pop in and play for a short bit. Good ones require a fair bit of time to fully get going.

Addiction sucks. Addiction to an activity regarded only with derision by the older generations sucks slightly more.
But I DO enjoy the games.

Sell all the games I don't play anymore, use a bit of savings, pay $250 to go skydiving.
Totally worth every cent. Better still, the first jump constitutes intial training. Thirty more and you're certified, and it gets cheaper with each jump until about the 20th when it becomes free! Packing the chutes is different though.

It's MW 2. It kills people's brains. Seriously.

Kidding.

My 360 almost always comes on when I get home. However, playing primarily for achievements keeps me out of that rut because I never play the same game routinely, unless it's REALLY good.
MW2 is at the end of its run for me. At the time, I just needed a thoughtless shooter to keep me occupied, and I got it for free, so I figured what the hell? But I did kind of burn out on it. And I can't play for achievements. I've tried, but it just doesn't get me going.
If you can stand it, I'd recommend doing something more involving, like a Guitar Hero or Rock Band setlist of songs you really like, something like that. Maybe even wave your hands around like an idiot with a Wii. When my friend comes over we always turn on the Wii and use the Backwards Compatibility to play rounds of TimeSplitters: Future Perfect. Bricks and Bats, One-Hit kill on the Disco, all Ducks.

I did the same with Borderlands as you did with Fallout 3. Just played and played until you can't get any more from it. I should hit up my library though. Good call there.

The only TV shows that I currently keep up with are Dexter and Supernatural. Supernatural is going through its fifth season (slowly, I might add) and Dexter has yet to start back up, so my TV shows are limited. I have been meaning to start trying to watch Brotherhood though. Could look for that.

If I had Mass Effect 1 or 2, that would probably help. But, until that ever happens, I'm going to move back to some old Sonic as many others have suggested.

Your sense of fun in a game has been corrupted by modern warfare 2's broken multiplayer which happens to alot of people. The fix is to find what made you love games in the first place or where you were before it corrupted your sense of enthusiasm and love of gaming. This does not necessarily mean going to a new game that you know others love, this means finding a game where you are able to enjoy it on your own and then with people you know who makes it better.

I have skydived before.

One of, if not the best moment of my life.

I do enjoy Rock Band, pretty good vocalist, but I've been spoiled by that. Me and a buddy always play together when we can (we go to different universities), and he's my only other friend who can play expert reliably. And if I'm not playing with other expert players, I don't really enjoy it all that much. And I refuse to play online, as most of my favorite songs are DLC and very few people have them.

And Timesplitters = Fantastic game I wish I owned...

Well, if you have the PS network, I hear you can rebuy old PS1 games. I don't have the PS3, so I don't know. But if you have a Gamecube or a Wii, then a RE2&3 are running about $30.00 at Gamestop used. I just play the games on my PS2. You know, the one with reverse capability! Gawd, I hate that PS3 has limited compatability.
Wasn't a Resident Evil on Genisis? I forget, but it seems that there was. You may be able to Ebay a copy.

I do not have a PS3 sadly. But I will have to look into RE 2&3 at Gamestop.

And I don't know if there was an RE on the Genesis. Would be cool if there was, but I can't recall.

Well this is my experience and it might help. I started playing Knights of the Old Republic again and just can't stop. It's just way too fun. You must realize that I don't get new games often and I was entirely bored with my catalog, so I picked it up and played it. I am now having much more fun with a game than I have in a long time.
I'd do that with Tales of Symphonia (favorite game, and coincidentally, one of the few JRPGs I can tolerate) but a friend from school borrowed it and transferred, so he's still got it. You'd think I would be able to find another copy (I work at a game store), but I can't for some odd reason, and I just know that would cure me of my gaming boredom.
I got that recently. Quite a good game, though I preferred Phantasia.
