I'm not interested in Christmas

Admittedly, I don't watch a lot of tv, but the christmas specials in australia aren't that bad. I always enjoyed the spicks and specks christmas specials immensely.

And does it really matter "what christmas is actually about"? People will celebrate it however they want, and whatever each family do, that's what it's actually about for them. Whether it is simply an excuse to buy presents, or if they go in for the whole religious experience is irrelevant. There were all the pagan celebrations around this time that yielded to christmas, perhaps christmas is just evolving with the society around us?

Plus, how do you mean it's too much about the gifts? How is there anything wrong with giving and receiving gifts?

I'm not particularly mad about christmas, but your post just seems a bit sour and bitter. Cheer up a little eh?

I stopped getting excited about Christmas when I was like 9. I still love Christmas. We Don't buy presents any more. We have a huge family lunch. All of the extended family is there. Then a close family dinner.

Well, I'm Jewish, so Christmas isn't really up my alley.

I'll enjoy my chocolate coins, potato pancakes, donuts, and my 1 decent gift followed 7 pairs of socks.

I don't mind Christmas, but here in America it can be really obnoxious.

I don't like the 'true meaning of Christmas' stuff that gets thrown about. There is no true meaning; the meaning is whatever people decide to give it. Once upon a time, it was a celebration that winter would start to recede and take the cold and hardships with it. That could be considered the 'true' original meaning, despite the fact that it's totally outdated and that none of us suffer any real seasonal hardships at all. To someone starving in a war zone, the true meaning of Christmas may be precisely nothing. Likewise if someone has a consumerist Christmas and cares only about food and presents then, for them, shinies are the 'true' meaning. I'm not saying that the consumerism is a good thing, but any kind of 'true meaning' is a lie. So complain about selfish children getting xboxes all you like, but don't pretend that they're violating some kind of universe-spanning law on the true meaning of the 25th day of the last month of the year.

I don't like Christmas because of the whole get the extended family together.
It's like oh joy I get to sit in a room with a bunch of people who I only see once a year and who I pretty much know jack about besides the fact that they are related to me in 'X' way.

Err, time out, it has a meaning.
It is a Christian holiday with a set history and meaning.
Just because someone who isn't a Christian is celebrating on that same day doesn't mean they are celebrating Christmas. If you're not doing the whole Jesus religion thing then you aren't doing Christmas, it is as simple as that.

Thanks for the laugh, but ritualized happiness through materialism is just as bad.
Oh bloody hell some people just need to be slaped across the tits with a wet fish

I'm not too fond of them playing every Christmas Special 100 times between Thanksgiving and New Years. I out right HATE Christmas music. But that's because a co-worker had the radio on a station that played Christmas music from Thanksgiving to basically February. And I don't mean they sprinkled it in with their already bad music. That's all they played. Do you know how many Christmas songs there are? Not many. You'll generally hear every song 7 times or more in an 8 hour shift.

But honestly, I love the season. The day. It's a good excuse to gather with family and friends, eating more food than you should, having a few drinks, and exchanging gifts. What can be better than that?

Sure you are, I'm not at all religious but I celebrate Christmas, that being the commercialism event this formally Pagan festival has evolved into. It's not a commendation to that great bloke Jesus anymore it's an excuse for a trade of presents and a spot of joyous gluttony during the least likable season of the year.

It's not that I don't like christmas as I don't like any holiday. New year, Valentine's day, Christmas, etc. I am very apathetic to these kind of things as a whole.

I hate Christmas. It's offensive in every way. Someone ought to tell these people that Christmas is pagan in origin and has nothing to do with the birth of Christ.

This seems appropriate.
Merry Christmas!

Well, I could get into the whole discussion about how Christmas is not the actual day Jesus was born and how it was changed to December 25th to make converting pagans easier but that would be silly. My point is who cares how random jerk XYZ decides to celebrate the holiday. Nobody is forcing you to watch/listen to it.

I personally am not much of a man for the holidays because i view many of them as hypocritical. Christmas was never a Christian holiday, it was originally a pagan holiday that Christians hijacked for some reason, and even then with that pretext it still remains little more than a consumer whore holiday marked by the appearance of whiny shit kids at all of my hangouts and these ugly decorations. But i personally hate Thanksgiving more. We're really supposed to celebrate what was probably a forced meeting between white settlers and American Indians that would later evolve into a practical genocide of the natives? FUCK. THAT.

But i'm only bitter on Thanksgiving. Christmas? I just don't make a big deal out of it.

I still love Christmas. Although I don't really care about gifts as much anymore since anything I want I usually buy myself now-a-days. They're still nice though.

Plus I get to visit my sister and nephews after New Year's. So that's also nice.

That should just be in the forum rules or something. It's really strange to see so many people apparently thinking "Oh maybe I'm the special one in the world." :3

Also, congratulations to the OP you've got what is probably a relatively controversial opinion and shared it with the internet. I'm quite impressed. I hope that despite having such a unique critical view of a holiday where people give to one another, you are able to forgive us mere humans for partaking in a social convention that encourages giving gifts. On behalf of humans everywhere please forgive us.

Slightly On Topic (I suppose)
I don't care much about Christmas in terms of being a religious holiday/celebration of the probably not birth of Zombie Jesus etc. I don't mind the gift giving and such since it's generally a nice thought that goes into it.

I apologize if any of the above seemed passive aggressive or sarcastic. :D

Wow, Some people's replies in here just scream:
Forever Alone!

Anyway, I generally enjoy Christmas. As a kid, the holiday was all about presents for me, my parents never really instilled the entire christian thing in me so I never really cared about some bloke that was born in a barn, almost every single movie I saw on tv was kind of about Santa delivering presents to children around the world, so naturally that is what Christmas was for me as a kid.

However, as I grew older I started to appreciate the family aspect of Christmas a bit more, I now enjoy being together with relatives that I might not see much over the entire year, catching up with people, eating good food, seeing people's faces when they open a present, even watching that one movie that I have seen 50 times already, I enjoy it all. I don't experience the amount of euphoria I did when I was a kid, but that is alright, there are a lot more things to enjoy about Christmas.

For all of you that don't like Christmas, you better find something you appreciate about it, because Christmas ain't going away.

What i like about chrismtmas is spending time with my loved ones, and thats about it, i couldnt care less about the supposed birth of some religious figure or watching these shitty TV specials.
