I'm not right or wrong, I'm just saying...

I'm a very opinionated person. I like to apply my opinions in situations, and I like to share my opinions with others.
The thing is, a lot of people don't understand what opinions are...
That's why I have a very selective group of friends who have varying opinions but don't fight over them...

I've got to say, The Escapist is home to many mature forum posters who will disagree with your opinion without trying to ram theirs down your throat. I like and respect that. Just because your thoughts differ from mine doesn't mean I can't read and understand them without getting angry that you don't think the same way as me.

What's the whole reason of this thread? I just feel like saying, to everyone, I'm not right or wrong, I'm just saying...

Most of the things I say, be it an opinion on a new game, or my choice in a moral dillema, are just opinions. Things I adhere to, things I believe in, and things I would do.
Here's what I'm not saying. I'm not telling you how to live your life, I'm not telling you what to think, and I'm not telling you what's right and what's wrong. Those things are for you to decide, and if you don't agree with what I have to say, then feel free to offer up your own opinions, but if you do it in an aggressive and forcful manner, I will ignore them...

Why the thread? I'm pretty sure there are many others who beleive the same and will post their agreement.
I'm pretty sure there are some who will have their own take on the matter and will post their response.
I'm pretty sure there are some who will post a rather witty and clever post. (which I'm looking forward to)
And I'm pretty sure there are some who will miss the whole point of what I have to say and get butthurt over nothing.

As I initially said, I'm a very opinionated person and I like to share my opinions with others.

That is all.

Your avatar intimidates me, and I don't even know what it is. Too bad it cannot stand against the might of, Alex![footnote]Only an ancient, one-eyed boulder-guardian of the elemental powers can do that[/footnote]

Opinions should not be anything more than something for conversation. When you account them in anything significant you become biased. Therefore when making signifcant decisions one should cast aside discrepinsies with others and decide using facts.

'Fraid not. My short-coming isn't my vision (I have 20-20 hindsight, haven't you heard?), it's my lack of experience with the source content (I have no idea where the space-minotaur with the laser-axe/gun is from).

Facts should be used as guidlines, yes, but I don't let certain ones decide what I should think.
It is a fact that millions of people die in car accidents each year, but I still choose to drive.
This conversation though, can be taken in the completely opposite direction, where your opinion on whether or not fire can kill you won't change the fact that, yes. It will.
Some facts are stronger than others, and most opinions are guided by facts.

I ignored your entire post, and you're a dick. Just my opinion man. Also, in my opinion the sky is green, just my opinion man.

Opinions without facts to give reason for said opinion gives nothing valuable to the discussion.
My intention was never to give reason. Reason is, like opinion, something that people forge themselves. While I didn't initially intend to form reason with this post, there are different deep rooted ones.
The desire to share my opinion is one, and I have accomplished that.
The desire to interact with others, which I have accomplished as well.
The desire to influence, which may or may not be happening.
I'm no genius guru though, so don't listen to me on this... Reason can mean anything, everyone interprets it themselves.

Ah, an explaination is in order.
It's the product of an old april fools joke on Blizzard's Starcraft II website, where they "released" Tauren Marines. This happened before the game was released, and all people had to look at was the website with various units from each race.
Taurens are a playable race in World of Warcraft, another game made by Blizzard, and they subtly slid them into the Terran unit info page for the day, leaving some baffled and others excited.
Ultimately, the Tauren Marine made it into the game as an easter egg, and can be accessed using the map editor.
That clear it up?

I was having a conversation with somebody once.
To make a long story short it turned into an argument.
To try to end the whole argument he said "Arguing over an opinion is pointless."
My response was "Would you rather argue about facts?"

People really need to understand when to form opinions and when to learn facts. There are many situations where people assert their "opinions" on things when they are merely throwing around proposed ideas or preconceptions they have on the topic. eg./ "I think nuclear power is beneficial to human kind because the benefits outweigh the detriments." Spoken by someone who is neither an ecologist, a nuclear physicist, nor a professional in any related field. This is not an opinion, a statistical assessment could be made on this topic that measured in some scale whether the effect of nuclear power was positive or negative overall.

Anyway, you get the idea(maybe).

Meh, I like ramming my opinions down other people's throats a little.

If all you do is state your opinion and then leave it, you may as well not have said anything. Plus, y'know, I'm right and they're wrong.

Oh: just sayin'.

Aw, I was totally going to come in this thread and only post that video. I'd have probably got temp-banned too for some kind of non-communicative response, but I was ready, man. Ready.

Screw it.

What is the point of a discussion? To waste time? To change our views of a particular issue? To show opposing sides and have both discuss and argue their points to enrich our lives?

For me it is the latter. If we for example wanted to discuss our favorite ice cream flavor and I made a thread asking people their favorite flavor. No doubt I'd be lock due to a lack of discussion since any answer could be answered within one word.

If we were arguing or discussing the flavors and I said "Vanilla is the best flavor ever!" Then some one would say "Chocolate is the best flavor ever!" Where can this conversation go?

No where.

I wish people would get some perspective.

No matter how 'heated' an argument might get, you're effectively arguing with some nobody over the internet.
Get over yourself. You aren't so important that you ought to be protected, nor am I for that matter. Neither of us is of any stature or influence to make the other's opinion of any more note than we choose to give it.
If I have offended you, then that's your damn fault. I'm not important enough to give weight to my opinion, as far as you're concerned I am a faceless poster on the forum, one of many thousands.
To cry foul because you don't like what I write is just sad. If somebody you don't know on the internet is ruining your day with their opinion, you need to get out more.

I think your point is very valid. But it is still an opinion not based on fact. Not that I have a problem with it, but you yourself said that you did. (My point is to point out the hypocrisy of your statement)
