If you're not sure wether to feel insulted, then it's best to err on the side of not. It might be a physical thing, or it might be that you've never given any indication that you have a girlfriend. The average teenage girl is something of a gossip whore, I don't know this person, but unless she's in the minority that doesn't care about gossip, then the revelation that a relationship was occuring right under her nose probably outwieghts being the only one who can look forward to a dry spell.

Sir, I think you have just experienced what my Aunt calls getting "Zuckerberg'd". (A term she coined after watching the social network)
It's what happens when someone states something he/she believes to be fact and by accident insults you.
So no, I'm under the impression that insulting you was not her intention.

The hell's wrong with being single?
This. Society's view on "being single" just seems to be that being single is the worsed fate in the universe, while it really is not. I know a lot of people who really enjoy being single, including myself.

OT: teenage girls just being teenage girls? I don't know your age, but I wouldn't put too much thought into it. I've been "offended" plenty of times in my high-school carreer by some random girls in my class. I just frowned at them and then just did what I was doing.
