have you ever pretended to be sick to get a day off? Did you feel guilty about it?

of course, who hasn't? there's always days when you REALLY don't want to work, because you're just nog having your day, there's something totally awesome you can only do on that day you have to work or just because you really couldn't deal with those annoying customers today.
I've done it plenty of times when my boss called if I could come in while i was 2 hours away. yes, I COULD go there and work, but I really don't think it's worth the extra time it takes to get there.

I turned it into an art. I tricked teachers and nurses that I was sick. I usually told my mother that I didn't want to go and didn't. I had a doctor that told me to go to him when I wanted a vacation.

I never felt guilty. After all, I was the one missing out on the lessons, teachers didn't care and no one got hurt. I had worse problems in high school than feeling bad about something everyone in school did.

As for work...my boss is the greatest man in the world. I can work at home too.

Actually, I haven't, but then again I like my job... Have done it when I still went to school (when I was 15 or so) a bunch of times, didn't feel much guilt since I was good at timing it to days that weren't worth attending anyway.

I don't think there is going to be many people (if any) who don't reply with "yes" then "no"...

Also yes and no.

Never skipped before like that. If I did, then I wouldnt feel guilty, cause I take pride in not skipping.

What kind of logic is that? Are you saying you usually feel your guilt before you do the deed?

I used to skip school all the time, but I've skipped jobs much less. If I do skive off, I don't feel guilty about it. I think a lot of the time that skipping work/school comes from fear/inability to give the genuine reason we need a break, ie. stress, feeling down, etc. Sometimes, that one little day at home in your pajamas is enough to keep you going through a stressful period at work, but you'd never be able to say that to your boss and get away with it.

The only real job I skipped was when I worked for a patent agent as a babysitter, because the whole place was so fucking miserable that I literally felt I needed a few days off every month to recover from the horror of being there.

I wouldn't skip my current job though, as I'm unfortunately one of those dreadful people that enjoys what they do.

Well generally speaking you know before you do something whether or not you'll regret doing it. When debating "Should I phone in sick today?" your conscience will either shout up or keep quiet - the logic is perfectly sound.

I used to do this all the time... I wouldn't feel guilty until the next day at work, when I didn't feel sick at all, and tried to fake it. I felt like I had just let someone down.

I used to take days off school all the time. I never felt guilty or anything. I had better things to be doing, not my problems it's theirs. XD

So you mean you weigh up the potential to feel guilty if you phone in sick, and then act based on that. Yeah, that makes sense.

and no, didn't feel too guilty. I only skived when the lesson seemed useless. I did skip work once so I could go and see Jason and the Argonauts at the cinema, however my job was awful, so not guilt there whatsoever. Thugh in all fairness, I did tell them I couldn't work that day over a week in advance, so it's a pre-booked skive.

I used to do it all the time in school and college, my tutor in college just accepted the fact that I skipped 2 or more lessons a week, and went along with the "I was ill" excuse every week. She was either really kind, or had a shit memory. Now, in Uni, I can just take days off for the fuck of it.
