I'm tired of hearing this particular argument against the Second Amendment:

I'm confused... sorry can someone explain the second amendment to me? I'm an ignorant Australian
Long story short: The right to bear all arms, to regulate a militia, and to rise up against tyranny.
And people want to remove this? Thats just calling out for a military dictatorship to come in.

Although I do think guns are too easy to aquire in America. In Aus it's a ***** trying to get your hands on anything.

I honestly didn't read any of this, but I will say, like my motto states.

"Politicians prefer unarmed peasants."

I will come back tomorrow for discussion.

I'd argue a weaker argument is the use of weapons in crimes. If guns weren't legal, most gangs and other groups would just acquire illegal arms pretty easily.
I will say this before I go to sleep. How many escapists here smoke week? is it illegal in your country? mostly likely yes. And how hard is it for you to get it? Not very.

The exact same thing would happen with firearms. Don't ever forget it. the second firearms are "illegal" I'll buy them up like alot of you buy up weed.

Not at all. It's great for the "peasants" to be armed, if you control the ones with the most guns. Saddam's Iraq had high levels of gun ownership.
Congratulations on picking four words out of my argument to augment yours.

I've been trying to persuade my dealer to grow some guns, just like plants. He seems skeptical. Asshole. It'd be so much easier to just buy that shit over the counter and not have to deal with him.
Congrats on 1,000 posts!

See when thing become "illegal" the worse of the batch are easier to acquire. Like today, for me to get a fully automatic rifle would cost upwards of $16,000 dollars. But on the lesser markets, all you have to do is file the trigger sear and it would cost less than $400.

It's all relative in the argument. Neither of us will ever win, but I do believe that we both should voice our beliefs on the matter.

??? Those four words were your "argument."
I have nothing against sir, and I'm thankful to meet people on here that don't immediately jump to a flame war to resolve the conflict. I will debate with you anytime we both have the free time to post on here.

Honestly its a fucking democracy and the government isn't going to be doing any oppressing so I'd say that people who claim to need to be able to bear arms against the government are the ones who need a damn sight more watching than the government. (Not that government oversight is unnecessary but such things can be DONE PEACEFULLY.)

...
I think it should be pretty much illegal to own guns with the possible exceptions of low-capacity handguns for self defense and hunting weapons. We might not be able to prevent dangerous criminals and crazies from obtaining weapons but we should at least discourage them from obtaining military-grade hardware. And ordinary civilians do not need assault weapons.

You're sick of that argument? Well here's a more resonable one then: your government is not going to oppress you to some cartoony "V For Vendetta" level so the Second Amendment is completely obsolete and redundant.

In fact, if recent developments are anything to go by, apparently the common American should now have access to whatever firearms they like so they can simply murder anyone they disagree with. Because, you know, apparently democracy and the rule of law is overrated.

2) What will this hypothetical tyrannical government use to oppress the people? The military of course! Who is the military? The people themselves! Who do you think flies those planes and pilots those tanks? Your neighbors, your friends, your former classmates from high school. I think people overestimate the willingness of the National Guard and U.S. armed forces to massacre their fellow citizens. Keep in mind - the enemy in this situation would not be "brown people" (as George Carlin put it) with a foreign culture and religion in a part of the world most Americans know nothing about - but rather the enemy would be us. snippage
Kent State, Ohio. Unarmed protesters.

Nothing to do with me though, as we have no such right to bear arms and therefore little gun related crime.

A revolution cannot succeed in a modern country without the support of a Military force, a Civilian uprising on its own is doomed to fail.

Ain't that the truth. I liked your second point. It's an idea I hadn't thought of. I know that dictators from by-gone ages have said the best way to oppress the people is to keep them from defending themselves. Guns are a great protection. On a related note, my brother loves a quote from a Japanese General who said, "WE will never invade America as there is a gun behind every blade of grass." A nation's best defense is its people.
Total bullshit actually. To oppress the people the trick isn't keeping them from defending themselves, the trick is keeping them from uniting against you by making them fight among themselves. More total bullshit, guns are not a great protection. They're single function tools, only useful to people who have had proper training. With a lot of people they are more of a liability than a form of home defense.
