I'm tired of playing violent games.

I'ma go ahead and also suggest Minecraft. While there are enemies and such, you can choose to be playing on Peaceful difficulty (no enemy mobs), and then also be playing Creative mode (no need to worry about health or food... and thus no need to kill any of the peaceful mobs either). If anything, you could tame a few wolves with some bones!

Besides MC... a good number of the racing games would generally fit under non-violent (depending if you're the bashing type or not...). I'd list things like Gran Turismo, Forza, Dirt, and generally almost all of them (minus Burnout and similar titles due to the idea being to crash everyone while getting to the finish... so yeah).

Most adventure (as in point-n-click) games should fit the bill I'd say. The designers of these kinds of games usually go out of their way to make you solve situations in complex ways, often forcing you to avoid direct, violent confrontations because it's the "easy" solution.

I suppose it depends where you draw the line... one could argue that Tetris is a game about killing blocks.

Microsoft Flight Simulator? That's definitely a peaceful game. Or that game where you drive a train. Looks pretty dull to me, though. :p

Oooh, Pilotwings for the N64! Cool, non-violent flying game. There might be a Gamecube or Wii version too, dunno.

Any golf game.

Most Sim games.

In general, you're probably going to want to look at the japanese and the indie market. Japanese, because they make games for pretty much any sub-group in japanese society, so there's a lot of weird/alternative stuff and indie for similar reasons: the alternative appeal that doesn't compete with major titles, which are just about always focused on violence and conflict.

Mirror's Edge comes close to being non-violent from the player's perspective, though it falls short in some places, where it forces you to beat up people to advance. I'm not sure if you have a problem with any violence in games or just the game forcing you to act violently through the character you play?

Off the top of my head, I can think of stuff like CreaVures, heaps and heaps of adventure games(Longest Journey especially). Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes has a very nice puzzle-battle system to have fun with, or you could also go with Puzzle Quest if you like Match-3 games. I could even drop Recettear into the mixture, as though there's some dungeon-crawling, the main focus is much rather on you making money. Capitalism, ho!

Lol if bloodshed is the only form of violence maybe. Are you not counting people getting blown off airships, weapons of mass destruction being used on cities, and cities filled with corpses?

I personally have no problem with video games with violence. Most of the games I have on my 360 are 18 rated and violent (gears of war, borderlands, mass effect while not an 18 is still violent).

I don't play these games for the violence (or just for it), but that is part of what makes them the games they are.

To be honest I don't enjoy games like the sims too much. I prefer games with some action in them and if that means being violent, then so be it.

I did enjoy mario games when I was a kid, and still hold a soft spot for them now, but thats about it really.

The first thing to come to mind was World of Goo but it has been mentioned several times already. I have not played it myself but I would love to I just don't have a Wii.
This is available on the PC, and a GREAT game. Similar style games: Osmos, Solar 2.

As mentioned many times, the Portal games are amazing. If you haven't played them, you are missing out on a significant moment in gaming history.

Spore (must), Anno 1404 (must), Tropico, Startopia, Children of the Nile... all of these games have the option to fight, but you can have just as much (probably more) fun just building up your empire and trying to manage it. Staying ahead of the curve and keeping your population happy and thriving can be a real challenge and makes you approach gaming in an entirely new way. I never really liked Sim-city, but there's also that...

I'm not sure if the OP's getting tired of violence per se, or just the glut of games that spew an endless stream of baddies at you, blocking your path to the NEXT level and offer little more than "shoot shoot kill kill!" There are quite a few games that are violent, but have so much depth that you get lost in the game, and don't really feel like the whole point is just killing stuff -- you can spend hours on end doing other things when you aren't in the mood for violence. Some examples would be Fallout 3, and Oblivion - both a must if you've never tried them.

Most RTS games are essentially about war (as is chess), but there are a few where strategy really comes to the front, and the violence itself gets sublimated, e.g., Bungie's Myth and Homeworld 1 & 2. Not an RTS, but a great strategy game - Defense Grid the Awakening.

I'm to the point where I have a hard time playing most FPS games these days - most of it just seems like mindless target practice with a thin story added after the fact. However there have been a few that hook me even though they are violent, simply because the story or the gameplay is so engaging: Batman Arkham Asylum, or The Witcher, or Tron 2.0 (NOT Tron evolution). The violence seems secondary, and not the whole point of the game.

Anyway, I know I've strayed a bit from "no violence at all." Hope this helps you find something that isn't just "shoot kill shoot kill."

Skate 3. I was never into skating, but I stuck to the game because it felt awesome to ramp off a jump, grab my board in my hands, do a frontflip, and land back on it. Yes, the option was there to be a complete dick to the bystanders and other skaters by pushing them or whacking them with your skateboard, but if you're the type who wants a non-violent game, it'd be pretty simple to go through without harming a single person.

OP made me kinda stop and think about all the games I've played. There haven't been many where I haven't killed something in some form. Food for thought.

But what I'm looking for is that exception and that smaller part of the ratio. I've been playing video games lately, and to be honest, while I like certain types of violence in video games as much as the next person, especially casting fun magic, that's a pile of fun. I'm getting a little tired of fighting stuff and I would like a break.

And so I was just wondering, other than just sparking a thread about whether violence happens too often or not, or people mentioning non-violent games that they like. I'd also like some help finding some good non-violent games to occupy my time. Because while I do like them, I'm pretty burnt out on them right now.
The reason that so many games feature violence and fighting is because most stories need conflict and games need gameplay, combat plays into providing both of those for a title so it's incredably easy to make a game based around fighting from a gameplay and narrative perspective.

But as for non-violent games, here are a few you may wanna take a gander at:

- Guitar Hero and Rock Band
- Most racing games
- Board games
- The Sims
- Sim City
- Most puzzle games
- Sports games
- BMX and Skateboarding games
- Stronghold (play the economic campaign or freebuild and it's actually a pretty fun and relaxing non-violent game)

You may have noticed that I had to condense most of my answers to whole genres rather than individual titles, this is because there are actually a lot of non-violent games out there, they just often aren't the huge AAA titles that grab everyone's attention like Call of Duty or Mass Effect.

Flower
Rock Band
Harvest Moon
Phoenix Wright
Professor Layton
Portal
Dance Central

that's all I can think of, but I'm 100% sure they don't have ANY violence

Amnesia: The Dark Descent? You don't fight. You hide in a fucking cupboard and hope the monsters won't find you.

Sid Meier's "Pirates!" - came out in 2004, still runs happily on any Windows PC. I think it's even been ported to Mac if you swing that way.

Awesome game - full of swashbuckling adventure and fun, and you probably spend more time dancing with governor's daughters than you do swordfighting.

Also, noone dies, or even gets injured.

Ever.

In the whole game.

I'm curious about that game. How is it?
Flower is amazing. If violent games are getting you down then this is the antidote for sure. It's kind of hard to explain but it's really beautiful, both visually and musically. You have an objective but nothing is overtly explained or shoved down your throat. It's all very intuative and relaxing. Definately worth a try.

War sucks ass. I want it all to be over. and i found out that i kinda dont wanna keep fighting wars in games myself...I'm excited to have Mass Effect 3, so I can scratch "Save the Galaxy" off my Bucket List...same goes for the Halo games (since theres gonna be a new trilogy); I want to really finish this all off. and i feel so obliged to see it through to the end, like im actually living it out.
I basically want peace, and i cant have it until i finish them off!

and on the OP, i cant really think of such a game...maybe little big planet? or Beautiful Katamari?
yeah, i got basically nothing...

You could try dating sims(or The Sims itself), unfortunately very few of these games exist outside of Japan but there are a few.

I'm probably not the first one to suggest it, but heck - Portal 1 and 2. There is practically no violence (apart from turrets but they have such sweet caring voices) and you never get a gun. You do get a portal gun and this together with story makes the game epic.
I'm not even sure I know any other noon-violent games.... you can try Magic the Gathering or Yu-Gi-Oh card games.
Oh yeah, Audiosurf! It's an amazing game where you drive in a spaceship. and the road is made out of your chosen song's melody. So if you play slow music your road will be boring but try some metal and hell yeah :D
