Right, it's already pretty common knowledge that Microsoft have done goof'd. More than done goof'd. So I'm pretty much decided on getting a PS4. Eeeeeexcept maybe not. The people I know are massive Xbox fanboys. No matter how hard I try to describe why they shouldn't get an Xbox they listen, seem to take it into consideration, but then basically give me the middle finger and say, 'nah - Xbox is just better'. How the fuck do I convince people like this. They may be fucking stupid, but they're the only people I really talk to, mainly because they're an entire group of people. I need a genuine answer here folks, not just 'how to convince them? Don't'. (Context: I have a great PC too. Should I just stick it out with Steam for a year? That was my original plan until the PS4 actually started to look good. Also, I've had the 360 for some 7/8 years. So have they).

Get better friends.

I had the same talk with one of my best friends last night. The Sony presser convinced him to buy a PS4, and I little more talk from me is helping convince him to just avoid xbone entirely. He might still get both, but at least he'll still the correct system (yes, correct).

Let'em buy their xbone, and when they start to realize that PS4 is beyond dominate, they'll switch.

They are only staying loyal because they feel they are currently on the superior platform...which the 360 kinda was.

Why talk to people who don't give a shit what you have to say?

Honestly. You're not going to convince them. The nature of the human animal is to make a mistake, deny it to yourself until you believe it to be the right answer, and then disregard anyone who proves you wrong no matter how logical their argument is. We're programmed to believe the 'pretty lie' over the 'inconvenient truth'.

Sorry, mate... there's really no helping it. Either they'll figure it out themselves, or they'll waste a lot of money. Whatever you do, don't let them suck you into the trap with them.

I'm primarily a PC gamer, but I've got an Xbox 360 and I love it to pieces.

If I -ever- decide to go in for a console this new generation, it'll be a PS4. Even then, it'll be once the hardware is older, the libraries are more extensive, and the prices have come down a little.

I have a few friends that have been giving me the same crap. I've convinced most of them. There's really only one left that needs convincing and we're all ganging up on him XD

The 360 was probably the best console last generation, in my opinion. I fucking love it. However, Microsoft have shown they have no idea what they are doing, so I am considering the PS4

Anyone know if the PS3 has ever had any different controller designs?

Thats my main gripe with Sony. Shit controllers.

Do what makes you happy, but also let them do what makes them happy. They aren't obligated to clear every decision they make with you, and you aren't obligated to prevent them from making what you see as a mistake. I'm afraid the best answer here truly is "How to convince them? Don't." They've made their decision, and just because their reasons aren't good enough for you doesn't mean you have any sort of privilege to do anything to stand in their way. I don't agree with the idea of getting tattoos, but whenever my friends get them I'm supportive of them and don't try to lecture them on how it's shortsighted to get a permanent mark for a feeling or notion that's temporary, and that when they get older they're going to look like shit.

So there you have it. You've made your grievances known, and that's about as much as you can do. Or at least, as much as you should do.

You are going to ditch your friends....over a console.

...at least have one of them try to steal your girlfriend or something.

Now, where did I say anywhere that I would ditch them? I merely said that I prefer to be able to game with my friends, and that I don't really support what some are doing (and, therefore, what I may be forced to do out of mere boredom, once I get the money, unfortunately). I know it's kind of selfish, but frankly (and I sound like a dick here) supporting Microsoft at this point is bad consumerism.

It was insinuated with the stupidity comment and the "they are the only people I talk to" comment. I don't know how old you are, but it is likely you will lose them regardless as gaming buddies once they (or yourself) get married and/or have children.

So just do what makes you happy.

Also, the title certainly didn't help.

Ha . Buy a ps4 . They'll switch once they see how much fun you are having, not jumping through hoops . And everytime you get a chance , rub salt in their wounds when they complain about anything aboutthe xbone.

Well if they want them to buy an XO, let them. It's not like it's going to ruin their lives. You buy whatever you want- your defiance in buying what they are may be the thing that is required to sway them.

And what do you stand for? Because you're saying you use Steam, that's kind of the same as X1's DRM.

I don't know, I don't really have friends. I personally would just do what ever pleased me. After all there are lots of people to play with online anyway.

I kind of get why a group of friends all want to stick with the Xbox. It is what they all used, it is what they know they love. Maybe they like the exclusives, like Halo and Gears? In school my group of friends all played Xbox also, as did I. We would get together and play Halo 3 all the time on weekends. Oh boy those were fun days...I don't really have a point I am trying to make.

I don't hang out with those kids anymore though, and I have always been a bigger fan of Playstation over Xbox. I personally thought Xbox 360 was a much better console for a group of friends to play together. I thought the online support was tighter and more polished. The future for me seems to scream PS4 and Wii U however. :p

Realistically I don't think there is an answer for you, people all have to make up their own minds, as they should. You have made your case to them and that is the best you can do. If I were 3-4 years younger, I might have got the Xbox One because my friends were all getting it and I cared less if I was being dicked over by some game company. Although I have always been one to go with my gut. My gut told me Xbox 360 over PS3, and I had a lot of fun with it, even though I was a PS2 fan. Now my gut tells me PS4.

words to live by. if they dont value your opinion, dont value theirs by trying to change it. i know a particular individual who has taken microsoft's bait hook, line, sinker, reel, pole, and boat, and said the literal words, "its gonna revolutionize gaming". this is a man who believes lincoln didnt care about slaves and just wanted a more powerful government, a man who will argue things objectively wrong LONG after he has been proven wrong by multiple sources, changing his meaning, backpedaling, and rewording desperately so that technically he is still right.

i work with him everyday, and we get along fairly well, considering his overtly hostile and argumentative personality that has alienated most everyone else. how? because i ignore his many, many triggers and stick to conversation topics we both enjoy, like whether superman or goku would win in a fight. if i have to be around the f**ker everyday, im not going to let HIS faults worsen MY life. smile and nod, let them their own lives with their own choices regardless of how stupid they are, and glow with sweet catharsis when it inevitably leads to failure. dont rub it in, dont even mention it, just.... watch. let them f**k up on their own and realize the value of your advice, kind of like raising children; theyre never going to listen to you unless they truly experience how bad their own choices are.

Friends who talk out of their ass to you are not really that friendly, now are they? They're not worth wasting money like that on, for something YOU don't want. Meditate on this, you must. Yes, hmm...

Its entirely probable that your friends may not be your friends. If they are unwilling to listen to you, they aren't friends, they are just people on your friend's list. Its why Google+ decided to make Circles instead of Friends. Some people you add to your group aren't your friends, they are acquaintances that you share a common interest to stay connected.

Ultimately, its coming down to that you should stand for what you believe in, not what your friends pressure you into buying or playing. If you don't want to purchase an Xbone, you shouldn't. If your friends aren't going to follow you, perhaps its time to locate a new group of people to play with on the PS4.

You could be the one PC gamer in the group, or the one guy in the group who has a PS4. You might not be able to play every multiplayer game with your friends (I'm sure cross-platform multiplayer would be more widespread this generation), but it probably won't have that much of an impact on your social life.

Until several games come out to your console of choice there's no rush to buy it anyway, so just sticking to your PC shouldn't be a problem.
