Friends were the only reason I never got a PS3 or moved to PC earlier. Trust me though, a better platform is worth the trade-off.

If they're really your friends then make sure they can contact you outside of Xbox live. Or try convince as many as you can to make the move.

Why and how is that even a question? Tell your friends that they should buy whatever console they want. Wii u is also a choice and so is not buying any console at all.
After you told that to your friends, maybe should start working on grasping it yourself. If all your friends are "Xbros" and you have the only playstation you can still go over there and play with them. Or they can come over and play with you.

Microsoft is 100% relying on people doing exactly what you're thinking of doing. They need a bunch of ignorant fanboys to completely ignore all of the restrictive/invasive nonsense, and then they need a bunch of those fanboys' friends to say "fine, w/e, I'll buy one to play with you guys". If that's the decision you make, fine. Just know that is the only way MS can get away with their bullshit, and that the only way to stop them is to refuse purchase regardless of exclusives or peer pressure.

You people must be joking, you are questioning friendships over video game console preference?
What kind of friendship can't weather a difference of opinion in game consoles?

This is why gamers are given such a negative stereotype, and why I hesitate to be apart of this joke of a gaming community.
I'd argue that the gaming community is given a negative stereotype because a lot of gamers are actually insufferable, socially-retarded dicks who think poorly-worded trash talk, racism/sexism/homophobia, and general toxic negativity are par for the course. Weighing your console options with regard for consumer rights and the future of the industry represents the kind of forward-thinking that I would never attribute to the majority of "gamers".

You are just as much of a fanboy for the next Sony brand console as your friends are for the next Microsoft brand console.
The false equivalencies surrounding this issue are starting to remind me of American politics. If you can't understand why this particular "console war" is fundamentally different from those of the past, you're not even trying to understand the issue.

I owned a 360 before I owned a PS3. I own a gaming PC. I have no brand loyalty whatsoever. I'm buying a PS4, day one. I'm never touching XB1. Why do you think that is? Fanboyism? Or a logical reaction to ridiculous anti-consumer ideology?

I think alot of people have got the wrong end of the stick here. I assumed OP's concern was that if all his friends get Xboned and he has a PS4 then he won't be able to play multiplayer with any of them or have them on his friends list. At least I assume that's what he meant, because otherwise I can't see any reason to give a shit.

I had this problem because almost everyone I know is 360 loyal and I see no point in paying for a service I can get for free on PS3 (as well as just preferring the PS3 in general) so, as a result, I only have about two friends on my PSN.

Luckily I don't give a shit about multiplayer, but I can see how it could be upsetting to people that do, and as others have said, this is exactly the kind of thing Microsoft is preying on to get people to buy their shitheap of a new console.

Most of my friends prefer Sony over Microsoft already, however even the ones who had a 360 like I did, all agree PS4 is the best out of the bunch. I say just give them the facts, if they do not heed your warning, allowed them to go through with it, maybe they will realize the mistake that they have done in time.

My friends list is one of the reasons I'm hesitant about jumping ship from the PC; almost all of my friends are PC gamers. I don't play multi-player all that often anyway, but when I do I much prefer playing with my friends.

Either accept that your friends have a wrong opinion and keep them or stop hanging out with them. If you do the latter, friends with similar interests should find you eventually, as long as you keep an eye out for new friends. That's how most friend situations have worked out from what I've seen in the past.

Get better friends.

I had the same talk with one of my best friends last night. The Sony presser convinced him to buy a PS4, and I little more talk from me is helping convince him to just avoid xbone entirely. He might still get both, but at least he'll still the correct system (yes, correct).

Let'em buy their xbone, and when they start to realize that PS4 is beyond dominate, they'll switch.

They are only staying loyal because they feel they are currently on the superior platform...which the 360 kinda was.
Woot. Thread was over with the first post. If your friends don't respect your opinion and can't understand logic then they're aren't good friends. They sound like the kind of "friends" I had in high school and I don't miss them one bit.

If your friends do matter then let them get what they want and hope they'll come around and get a ps4 later. Its not that big a deal. I was tempted to get a 360 because 2 of my good friends had one, but I wanted the exclusives the ps3. I don't regret my decision one bit. If we want to play together, we just hang out in person and between the 3 of us we get to play some of the best games on both systems

The 360 was probably the best console last generation, in my opinion. I fucking love it. However, Microsoft have shown they have no idea what they are doing, so I am considering the PS4

Anyone know if the PS3 has ever had any different controller designs?

Thats my main gripe with Sony. Shit controllers.
I think some companies make modular controllers that let you swap the placement of the left stick and D-pad (if that's your main gripe anyway). There's tons of different off brand controllers (I have one that's xbox-like) but there's also attachments you can get for the shoulder buttons to make them like triggers and covers for sticks to make them more comfortable. Personally, I think the smaller sticks on the ps4 controller make it look a lot more comfortable

Know that feel, my cousin was dead set on getting an Xbone...

Until E3 where he is now set on getting a PS4 so we can swap games without being charged!
Don't that only apply to sony games?.

Edit: i found what i was reading

I would just do what I want.
If all my friends played xbox, however, I'd still not get one because I always act according to my own beliefs, not others.

Suggest this to them: You will buy a PS4 and one (and only one) of them will buy an XBone. Then you will all get together and compare them. Games will be installed in front of everyone so everyone gets to see the level of BS involved. Then they reach a consensus and buy accordingly.

I'll bring my OUYA.

No matter how hard I try to describe why they shouldn't get an Xbox they listen, seem to take it into consideration, but then basically give me the middle finger and say, 'nah - Xbox is just better'. How the fuck do I convince people like this.
Ugh!

Tell them this isn't 2007, Playstation actually has GAMES now, Gears and Halo are no longer standard setting games, no one uses gamer or internet terms like "pwn" and "lolicopters." And, Kanye West is no longer considered a musical genius.

I mean, I'm the 80sboy and even I'm finding this line of thought backwards.
