Hello to all,

Does anybody of you know about a game, let's say similar to the Elder scrolls series (skyrim, oblivion, etc), but a game where you really take the time to evolve with the character, one step at a time (like, first, no armor at all, and then gradually, but rather slowly, improving and getting new little pieces of equipment -not like a whole armor at once!-).

I hope there is actually some game that gets close to something like this...

Thanks to you

PS: I?m not fluent in english, sorry for the mistakes.

Haven't played them myself, but maybe Dark Souls is what you're looking for. Looking for a game that's like Skyrim but more in depth is kinda a tall order to say the least.

It might not be exactly what you're looking for, but in the Monster Hunter series you kill large beasts and turn them into armor and weapons bit by bit.

Pretty sure Daggerfall worked like that - if only because you had to buy/find pretty much every part of the armor separately (a specific part for each arm etc, making it a major hassle to get any kind of matching set.)

Daggerfall actually IS an elder scrolls game, though being an earlier installment, it is FAR more in-depth than any modern game. Also, it should be available for free from Bethesda's website, so you could just check it out!

A more recent example might be Two Souls 2 EDIT: Two WORLDS 2. [small]Thanks, Drathnoxis![/small] I haven't played it much, but it's incredibly deep (at least for a modern game), and the tutorials are mainly focused on taking out enemies through skill and tactics rather than just superior equipment.

You can get the evolving character thing from Monster Hunter games. But the plot is almost not existent.

A google search doesn't turn up anything for Two Souls 2. Are you sure you didn't mean Two Worlds 2?

OT: Your best bet would probably to just get an Elder Scrolls game for PC and find a mod that balances the loot tables and power curve. Maybe something like Scarcity [http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/49496/?].

There's always baby's first Skyrim Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, which I thought wasn't THAT bad.

Well, Gothic I and II, but they are really oldschool action RPGs. You start out with a twig and random critters are a menace, armor is really scarce and you have to reach considerable progress with the factions to get them. Personally I loved Gothic I the most, you are locked into a fantasy penal colony, and have to make due, the atmosphere is excellent.

I've only played the first Dark Souls, and it may not be the best option, depending on how "Elder Scrolls" the game needs to be. Dark Souls is more of an action game at its heart than Elder Scrolls, in that it isn't really an open playground to do whatever the hell you want in, more just a set of combat challenges to overcome. That said, it is great if all you want is slow, methodical progression, but if you want the Elder Scrolls-styled freedom and role playing as well, it would be best to look elsewhere.

And as for that other place to look, my best guess is early Elder Scrolls. I don't have that much experience with Morrowind and none with anything that came before that, but from what I understand, those games put at least a little more emphasis on the character progression and development than more recent games.

Sorry, I don't really understand the question. Are you looking for the games where your character progresses much slower than the enemies i.e., grindfests? Or games where the loot is much less rewarding than in other games?

It's been mentioned, but you might like Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning. It's not as open-world as Skyrim is, but the quests feel similar (Enter cave, kill everything, loot chest) and the NPCs are almost one-for-one identical. It's easy and quick to learn like Skyrim too; the character progression is a little different, but you still level up and put points into the trees that you want. The combat is a bit faster-paced and it's third-person, but as an RPG it ticks most of the boxes.

I don't know why you people are recommending Amalur. It is not only not in the same genre (one is a first person exlporation RPG, the other is a single player MMO), they play nothing like each other and Amalur is in no way fulfilling the OP's request for an RPG with slow character/loot progression.

For an actual recommendation, I say mods. There are a lot of them out there for all Elder Scrolls games and I recommend mix-and-matching them (and even tweaking them to your own liking). In my latest Skyrim playthrough I modded my game so that prices were exorbitant, loot was scarce but boss-chests and unique items were much better. Really, ES games (and Skyrim in particular) can be tweaked to however you want them (unless you are playing them on a console, in which case... what the hell are you doing playing them on consoles? ಠ_ಠ)

Fixed the error you mentioned - you were right, I did mean Two Worlds 2. Thanks.

Thank you for your responses. I will look for information on the games you have recommended to me.

To Imre Csete:
Yes, I have played Gothic. Yes, it was a fun game and atmosphere!

To TranshumanistG:
I am looking for a game where you are, really immersed in the evolution of your customized character. And a really step by step evolution and improvement of skills etc.
To put it simply, not something like having a full armor (legs and chest) and equipment almost at the beginning of the game, but starting off with bare hands or a with very basic sword, and then as you progress (but kind of slowly), getting a little piece of equipment along the way.

Thanks again.

Umm, Baldurs Gate? That's got some pretty slow gear progression and character attachment/building. It's not exactly Skyrim-esque beyond being an RPG, but it fufils that segment at least. Otherwise mod the shit out of Skyrm.

If you want something a little more retro, try bit Dungeon II.

It's an upgrade of the free game bit Dungeon. Try to the first game to get a feel for it, because bit Dungeon II was actually on sale on Steam earlier. Might still be.

May I ask exactly what mods you played with?

Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, much harder difficulty curve as you start off with nothing, barely able to kill some of the first enemies you come across. If you stray to far too early you'll get wrecked because it doesn't have level scaling. You really have to work to make your character good because it goes with a more roll the dice style combat system, so if your weapon skill is pretty low you'll miss hits and stuff. Same goes for blocking, there's no block button. When holding a shield your character will block at random depending on your block skill.

As for armour, well there's many different armour sets all with multiple pieces. Helm, left shoulder, right shoulder, chest, left bracer, right bracer, legs, boots. It gives you a lot of opportunities to customise your character.

This describes Gothic/Risen series perfectly. It takes a long time and investment to progress and get stronger and you really feel the learning curve when you upgrade something. I'd start with Risen 1 if you're a complete newcomer.
