I remain unconvinced til I hear it from the horses mouth. "Best Buy employee said so" is not what I would call a reliable source.
Don't you know horses are pathological liars?

OT:Not sure how I feel about this. It could work I guess, but the setting isn't really important for the quality. The best setting can be screwed up and bad settings can give us wonderful games. I would wait for more information before making up my mind here. I would also wait until I get confirmation if this is false or not too.

Hurrzar! Even less reason for me to buy this game!
God Bless Amerkuh!

(on topic)
Having the Giant American background is going to sell well to the AMERICANS!
but not the rest of the world.
Being from England "now residing in Australia"
This game gives me no reason to buy it.
Kind of like All of them. "except for the first one Otherwise known as the bset one"
All the characters are annoying Desmond miles is a whore and personally i dont want to kill badly Portrayed English people.

Desmond does live in USA so it kinda makes sense the closer to modern times we get the closer his ancestors live to where he lives.
Still not really the fan of american revolution.
And it still be fake or misleading on purpose or something.

Correct me if I am wrong, but weren't most of the cities in America at the time pretty small? I mean, compared to the big cities we've seen in earlier game (Constantinople and Rome both had inhabitants in the hundreds of thousands range) and their grand architecture I have a hard time getting excited at the prospect of parkouring through Philly anno 1789. Maybe they intend to mix up the gameplay completely, in which case that objection is pretty irrelevant, but I kind of doubt it.

Cool!!!!!!

So lets our place our bets on which of the Founding Fathers were secretly Templar bastards: I bet we will have to fight George Washington!
Well considering the fact Washington was part of masonic lodge... Then yes, I would be disappointed if They weren't tied to Templars.

Then again with how They tied several historical figures to already be part of the Assassins Order, I also wouldn't be surprised if due to whole "America is always win" it wouldn't be the opposite with Founding Fathers secretly being part of the Assassins.

Hoping this is fake, too. I guess it DOES fit the "unexplored era" bill of the franchise, but this wouldn't have been my first choice. I was kinda rooting for Victorian England.

Also, I don't see this giving us the kind of scenery porn or the free-running opportunities I enjoyed so much in the other games.

And for the record: Revelations made me very happy.

-Edit:
...even though they treated Lucy poorly.

Dammit. I was hoping for a female protagonist. And a time period of location that games haven't explored before. Preferably European.

The milking of the franchise has made me somewhat sceptical of this game by now.

I REALLY hope that (i) They don't try to force the retarded plot from the previous games in, and (ii) that the games is more sophisticated than to put the British as the bad guys run by the Templars and the Americans as the good guys, perhaps where the Assassins fled to when defeated in Europe.

Also please include the French and everyone else who was involved in the conflict. I know some American state schools teach caricatures of their own history, but that's no reason to inflict it on the rest of us.

To everyone bitching about it being set in America, what the hell did you expect? This is a game series based on the ancestors of an... AMERICUN hurr durr. It seems logical that at some point in the timeline they would've had to make that bridge somehow.

At least there was real variety beforehand. I think they can be forgiven considering they've already done the Middle East and Renaissance Italy. Colonial America seems like a welcome change to me.

HURR DURR 'MURKA SUX!!!

OT: This is probably one of the worst locations they could have picked. Have you ever seen an 18th century colonial city? They were all filled with squat buildings! Maybe a few buildings were taller than 2 stories, but the majority weren't. And they weren't tightly packed like buildings in older countries like England, France, Spain, and Italy. The mid-19th century would have been a much better time period architecture-wise for being set in America.

...anywhere other than America would have been fine. We already have plenty of games/media set in America/this particular era of history, so I'm hoping this is a fake. I'm sure it'd be fun to play, but this story needs resolving with Desmond first.

Have you no sympathy for Desmond, sir? Imagine how uncomfortable that'd make him. Also, relentless mocking from Shaun.

...and I liked the plot of the previous games :,(

So, what's the betting that the Brits are all racist and horrible and the Americans want to free slaves and are all really nice and stuff?
Fuck The Patriot.
I hope they play this right but I can already see how it's gonna go: "Hurr durr America is teh BEST LOL!!"

So many great eras they could have visited, so many great wars and times of unrest and they choose this? Ah well. If they do it right it'll be okay but there's too much potential for it to be just another patriotic game full of lies.

Ah I did quite like Shaun, even if he was a little 2 dimensional and predictable when he gets sarcastic at every single thing anyone says or does. So some vicious mocking would be quite welcome.

Haha, well, this may restore my faith in the series. I love that era, and if done well, this could be amazing. Doubt it will top RDR as my favourite western though :p Also, hope they improve the outfit, looks a bit messed up at the moment :)

I like it. I like it a lot. Especially if the new assassin really is half Native American. It's never been done before. And American Revolution is a really cool setting. So many important historical figures, and a really important moment in history. If you remember in one of the previous games puzzles, there was a painting of George Washington with the Apple of Eden.

How could the ancestor be a native american. Th bloodline runs from the middle east to italia making it impossible to include a native american. I really had my heart set on victorian london because I was interested more in that and im not sure how you could have the extremely tall buildings in colonial america but i supose we can only wait and see.
Actually the bloodline doesn't run from the Middle East to Italy, Ubisoft has come out and said that Altair and Ezio aren't actually related. Desmond is the descendant of both Altair and Ezio but they have different bloodlines that merged with Desmond's family. So it's entirely possible for this third ancestor to be entirely unrelated to the previous protagonists.
Fair enough. I dont know much about that time period itself in the colonies so im now wondering howw they would achieve the huge expasive cities and tall buildings that are a large part of the series.

Its certainly a major part of history but it feels like a cop out. An easy way of finishing it with uber patriotic bull. I do hope they represent this for what it is rather than the evil british templars vs the good american, pith fork wielding rebels.

Disclaimer: To counteract the inevitable member bitching at me for being anti-American, I'm not. I'm just sick of games set in and focusing on America. They could go to any point in history, really, and they chose America. As I feared.
Exactly how I feel, too. There goes any interest whatsoever I had for the game.

Good lord Ubisoft, you're almost becoming as bad Activision with these games. Who wants to buy a new Assassin's Creed every year?
Assassin's Creed 3 has been in development since AC2 was released. And it's not something they can simply lie about. It will be obvious if they're telling the truth once the first gameplay is revealed.
