I'd rather be mortal than be immortal. Seeing everyone you love die and you would continue. Also as you age your perception of time speeds up so even if you found another person to love, you wouldn't have much time (in your eyes) with them and eventually you would come to feel that life is pointless. Then you would live to see the end of the world and you would still be around and that would suck.

Tch, well you're not fully mortal anyway so of course you'd say that.
You make a good point though, you'd just have to learn how to get over the deaths of others, and something tells me you wouldn't have much trouble with that.
You are absolutely right.
I didn't have any trouble with it.
Not that getting over the deaths of others makes one cold or anything, hell you should strive to move on after things happen.

Eternal life would be infinatley more terrifying than the prospect of death for me.

And, if you do become immortal, I assure you that you would eventually go mad. The thing is, you would probably recover from it as well. I think in this case that madness would be a defense mechanism your brain would use so that you could cope with it. But you would eventually outlive your madness.

Since immortality is impossible, I can just as well make crazy theories like that.
No due disrespect. But that isn't something you or I can assure, or prove against either. It's a reasonable position to take of course, but based only on assumptions made about the human condition. So, we really do have to wait until such a time when a case of immortality actually does present itself.

I imagine it would be quite fun to go against the laws of nature and mock it to no end, but still. I think it would become lonely, if not tireing in the end. Humans do excel at adapting as history shows.

Also, yes I would take immortality, it'd be fun to mock others. And I don't really care about any other people anymore.

Of course. Sounded a bit like a douche there. I meant to say that I am sure you will go mad eventually.
I am sick and tired, so I make silly mistakes like that :p

Anywho, the stance I really have on this is that I would rather be mortal, as already stated. However, if I also had some kind of power to go with the immortality... That would be a different thing altogether. Just the ability to fly would be worth it. But living as a normal, boring human forever? I don't think so.

no cause... if everyone was immortal... [ignores obvious overpopulation issue] you wouldnt be lonely...

and you would lose everything you achieved in your then meaningless life...
its something ive been struggling to accept for a while now... why do anything if in the end... youll die and lose it all?

The problem with immortality is that you'd never stop aging. Do you really want to be eleventy-billion years old, all bent over and unable to walk without breaking your hip?

If you mean agelessness, then that would get incredibly boring after a while. Sure it would be great for the first few thousands, possibly even millions of years, but eventually you will have done everything it is possible for a human to do. It will probably take you eons, but eventually it will happen. Then what do you do for the rest of eternity?

That level of boredom just wouldn't work for me.

Also eventually you would probably just want to die, I think it would probably be like wanting to go to bed after an incredibly long day, only you can never go to sleep.

Meh why be immortal if everything around you dies and withers. In the end you become an empty shell with no purpose or aim and just wander around devoid of emotion and feelings. Living an empty imortal life is far worse than a filled mortal one.

UNLESS! You have this:

If I can have that bring on zee immortality!! The universe is a big place!!

It wasn't "moving on" as much as it was "it happened and I didn't care."
I am a horrible son, I guess.
You lost a parent? I'm so sorry, not that human condolences are much good to you but, still.

Assuming the package also includes agelessness and invulnerability, then hell yes, I would take it. I guess it would get sort of lonely if you were the only one, but still, people get over the deaths of others anyway, so I don't see how it would be much different. Besides, think of all the things you could do. Granted, you'd have to be careful, because I'm sure people would get suspicious of that guy who'd been living at the end of the road for eighty years and hadn't aged a day.

And I suppose if the planet ever got destroyed, drifting in the vacuum of space for a few eons would be sort of boring. I'd have to make sure I brought a good book.

What if you could pass on immortality to your children? That solves the problem of people youcare about dying. Yet would only a certain elite group be allowed to re-produce? (Over-population and all that noise) Or would it be encouraged for the colonizing of other planets? (Eventually)

Not really something I've considered, cos it's impossible in real life.

Also, I take little interest in the kind of stories/movies that involve immortality.
Technically it is possible. You just need to find a way to prevent cells from decaying.
thats called cancer. The cells loose their cut-off ability and then just deform.

I'm not sure. It would be cool to live for eternity but at the same time it would scare the shit out of me. I mean you would eventualy get bored or witness to many horrific events. Also if humans are left to think for too long they can go a bit nutty.

Obviously I wasn't referring to the methods of cancer.

Yes. I am something more than human!
I am...
...Uh.
A...thing! From a swamp! (Florida is 110% certified swamp you know.)

Anyway, yeah. It's not a big deal, though. The funeral was uncomfortable because people kept crying on me.
Also I hated wearing a suit when I was a kid.
So you this guy?
