Name: Marcus Pullo Tertius (Goes by various pseudonyms but usually just called Marcus)
Gender: Male
Race: Human (White, Greek)
Appearance: 5ft 10in/1.77 Metres. Looks like he's in his mid-late 20's. Has black hair and green eyes. Prefers to keep his hair at medium length and be clean shaven but this isn't always the case. His tanned white skin tone shows his Mediterranean heritage. Of healthy build and a moderately attractive appearance. Clear by looking at him that he's more agile than he is strong. Growing up in a wealthy background with access to baths he likes to keep good personal hygiene.
Keeps up with the times and culture he is in when it comes to choosing what to wear. Tends to wear more casual clothing the majority of the time but is used to wearing more formal wear at events where it would suit. If he's going into battle he'll chose to wear medium or light armour to allow for mobility.
Equipment: Naturally what he is carrying varies with the time and the culture he is in. Regardless he likes to carry money on his person and a satchel where he can keep a journal and writing materials. He was trained in using a shortsword in his time in the military but didn't use it much after leaving, he does however like to keep a small knife on his person, mostly for practical reasons. He prefers to use polearms. As such in earlier times it isn't uncommon for him to carry a spear. Later he switched to using firearms, as such in more modern times you can often find him carrying a handgun.
Personality: Marcus is a charismatic and inquisitive individual, he does enjoy interacting with other people and learning more about the world. He often feels lonely, due to his nature it's hard to form long term relationships. For the most part Marcus could be described as a nice person. He's usually friendly and helpful. Still Marcus is a person and as such is multifaceted. He can get angry and be rather mean in certain circumstances. He's also not a pacifist, he is willing to fight not only to defend himself but because he thinks it's the right thing to do. Isn't inherently opposed to authority figures, some of them are genuinely good people, but doesn't feel beholden to them. He more than willingly carried out orders that were morally wrong before and doesn't want to do so again. Does his best to keep morality in mind and do what he thinks is the right.
Unique Immortality: Marcus took part in the crucifixion of Jesus of Nazareth in 33 AD. Numerous people were being executed that day, one of which was Jesus, a religious leader who had gained quite the following. While he was on the cross, in an attempt to prove himself as a loyal soldier and to win favour in the eyes of locals he took his spear and used it to piece Jesus's side. Blood fell from the wound into Marcus's mouth, some of which he inadvertently swallowed. A month later while on patrol Marcus and the group his was with were killed, he felt the knife go through his chest and being hit repeatedly on the head with a rock. However minutes later Marcus woke up, his wounds had healed, the attackers had left and he was surrounded by the bodies of his fellow legionaries. Not long after this Marcus left the military and Jerusalem.
Marcus's particular brand of immortality means he does not age and that he is immune to disease but ordinarily his wounds heal at a normal rate and he still needs to eat, drink, breath and sleep. However upon 'death' Marcus falls into unconsciousness and his wounds begin to heal extremely quickly, this usually takes a few minutes, it takes longer depending on the severity of the wounds. The longest it ever took was one time when he was decapitated, it took around an hour for his decapitated head to regrow a body. Marcus imagines he could regenerate from a single cell and that single cell would be indestructible, but he hasn't put it to the test. Also coming back to life resets his biological needs, hunger, thirst, sleep, etc. Which is good as otherwise he could fall into an unending loop of starvation. If Marcus was temporarily unable to return to life due to whatever circumstance his body found itself in (like somehow being in the vacuum of space) he would simply remain unconscious until he was able to come back.
Marcus is certain consuming Jesus's blood is what caused his immortality but is unsure of why. Was it as simple as the statement that his blood gave eternal life was true? Was he cursed by a divine being for his cruel actions? Was he blessed by divine being for making Jesus suffer? The uncertainty troubles him and Marcus still isn't sure what to make of everything. While immortality certainly has many perks, Marcus does regret the unnecessary suffering he caused that day.
Disposition: Marcus judges other individuals, mortals and immortals alike, on their own merits. Some of them are great kind people while others are horrible, cruel or just completely insane. He is a rather charismatic individual, which means he's skilled at persuasion and leadership. He was well educated and literate from an early age, while obviously he doesn't know everything he does like to learn more, in particular he tries to be knowledgeable about languages and is likely fluent in several languages at any one time. Marcus is also prone to philosophy, pondering over what the right thing to do is and why he achieved immortality. Marcus is skilled when it comes to fighting unarmed, with polearms and eventually with firearms. However while he isn't weak physical strength is by no means his greatest asset, instead Marcus relies on his dexterity in combat. Marcus likes to record events in a journal to serve as a form of external memory and to perhaps one day be used by people as a historical source or some kind of gospel according to Marcus. Marcus is sometimes prone to intense feelings of loneliness, guilt and melancholy which troubles him. He hopes he can redeem himself for the sins of his past.
Bio: Marcus was born in the city of Thebes in Greece. He was born a second son and a member of the wealthy Tertius family, a Roman family who'd moved to Greece. His father was a politician and was grooming his eldest son, Marcus's older brother, to do the same. As a result of all this Marcus had a rather nice upbringing with good education. When Marcus came of age he joined the military, as part of his service he travelled to numerous parts of the empire and during his time did some things he'd later come to regret. Eventually he was stationed in Jerusalem. Marcus wanted to eventually rise to the rank of Centurion and with his quality of education and previous success as a legionary it seemed like that might eventually happen. In 33 AD he partook in the aforementioned crucifixion which granted him immortality. Following the death of the group he was with and discovering he was immortal Marcus began to feel overwhelming guilt for his past deeds. After a few weeks he left the military and departed Jerusalem. Marcus was unsure what to do with his life but he knew he didn't want to remain in the army any longer. He chose to go to the heart of the Empire itself, to Rome.
