IMO, no James Bond game has captured what it is like to be Bond

With the exception of some Game Boy titles, pretty much every James Bond game to date has been a shooter. Some of these games are good, even classic games, but the fact remains you are not really playing James Bond, and the player character could easily be replaced with another action hero.

My perfect Bond game would be a mixture of these types of games:

- Where in the World Is Carmen Sandiego?
- Hitman
- Covert Action (a little known spy game made by Sid Meier)
- James Bond 007: Everything or Nothing

With a combination of these games, you would get to do more than just mow down bad guys while collecting documents - you would have to collect clues, talk to people, travel between various open-ended locales, put on disguises, demonstrate your driving skills, and more. In the films, James Bond has a silver tongue and a quick mind, not just a good trigger finger. Of course, there would still be plenty of action when you discover a bad guy base of operations, or when your enemies blow your cover and find out you are James Bond and send hit squads after you. Also, you would not fight alone - you could make allies and fight alongside Red Shirts (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Redshirt_%28character%29) in big scripted set pieces, like in some of the movies.

Something like Hitman yes.

That does sound awesome actully. As long as Bond is played by Dalton.

You know, I agree that EoN would have to be thrown in there, because that was the only Bond game that seemed like a game where you couldn't take Bond out and put, say, Doom Marine in.

However, Brosnan must be the face to the spy.

I agree with Brosnan, he was my favorite Bond. He can provide the voice acting for this game of mine too :D

Completely agree on every level.

To be fair, GoldenEye had a bit more stealth than your average shooter.

You forgot the God of War sex mini-game. Seriously, though, I would add one more game onto your list: Condemned: Criminal Intent. Probably just for the three or four gadgets you need to use in order to proceed and find clues.

I'd rather have it borrow from Mass Effect's style of seduction and sexin'

I agree with you, OP. Especially on the Hitman part. Every James Bond game, even EoN (which I loved) has been pretty much just a shooter, first- or third-person. They tend to bypass some of the cooler aspects of being a spy, like blending in and being stealthy in ways outside of sneaking through shadows or through laser grids. Agent 47-type stealthiness.

The secret agent genre has so much potential for varied gameplay, it's a shame that it's so often just completely action-based. An open Chaos Theory-type map that incorporates both Splinter Cell stealth and Hitman stealth, and some typical James Bond action, would be extremely badass in my opinion.

That sounds like it would take a very long time to get into a bond girls' pants and I don't think that's James' way. Although to be fair, he's usually done with them by the time the camera crew catches up.

I think the closest game to james bond would be alpha protocol, although they coulda handled that game a better the convo selection, and combat/sneaking felt like something you'd see in a James bond.

I loved Nightfire, but mostly for multiplayer.

I could trollface people with the infra red grenade launcher sniper rifle.

Everything or Nothing is the best Bond game.

Goldeneye is fantastic, but it doesn't feel as authentically cheesy as EON.

The closest game to james bond was mission impossible for the n64. You actually had to figure out how the hell you were going to finish the mission...

You know, I remember Mission Impossible being a pretty fun game. It was definitely more "spy like" than Goldeneye - add this to the list

Why do people feel the need to use IMO likes it's some sort of flame shield.

they made the games to fit the Bond I believe. Brosnan games are less actiony really except at certain parts. More Bond stuff going on in them too.

The Craig games are super action movies with lots of explosions no gadgets it's just....eh. That's just the sort of Bond Craig is though.

But then again I think Daniel Craig is the worst James Bond ever, only worse one is that guy that was in On Her Majesty's Secret Service...

Voiced, motion-captured and faced by the best James Bond of all, Sean Connery, and you've got yourself a deal.
