What are the controls to this game? I don't know what anything does? How do I send out imps? how do I do all these different thing?
You could read the instructions, or you could do the time honored gamer tradition of randomly clicking on stuff and seeing what happens. The game's primary interface is the mouse, not the keyboard so randomly punching keys will not help you here.

If you really wanted an explicit description here goes:

Note the screen has a bunch of boxes across the top. clicking on the ones without a lock on them will select a type of imp to deploy.

Once you have selected a type of imp click any where on Yahtzee's lawn to deploy it. You can only deploy 5 imps per lane (the horizontal yellow strip between rows of grass) so be careful who you deploy where.

If you click on an imp that is already deployed it will execute a special attack. The special attack drains the blue bar which correlates to the imp's mana. If the imp runs out of mana or life the imp disappears and you can deploy a new one in its place.

Each level except the last one has a finite number of fan boys to defeat. Once they are all dead you move on to the next level. Where new imp types are made available and new fanboy types threaten you.

The last level is beatable but some people have experienced a bug where the boss disappears. I don't know what causes this bug, but the victory conditions are boss has 0 health and there are no more knight fanboys left on your lawn. If you encounter this bug try deploying rifle imps close to the front, and see if they are still damaging the boss (even if you can't see him).

Ok, so Why didn't you just put this in the game, instead of some opening narrative? A little explanation of the controls would've been nice instead of just figuring it out.

They are in the game. These instructions pop up when ever you pause the game or loose it. The instructions screen tells you about selecting imps and what the resources are, I made the assumption people would be able to figure out you should click on the spot where you want to deploy a imp to deploy it.

I admit I used the instructions to go on a bit to much about the story, but no matter how precise you make the instructions there will always be some one who just doesn't get it.

As you know there is an on going debate amongst gamers who either say games are being over simplified for the masses, or that gaming should be accessible to everyone. I tend to fall into the former category and when I develop I try to put as much depth into my games as I can. Some times that depth bars access to people who are not patient enough to learn through trial and error, but if the people who do take time to learn have a more rewarding experience, it is a price I am willing to pay.

Every time I play, my strategy of setting up a two-deep column of gamers/trolls to keep me supplied while I lay down mines near the spawn and snipers halfway down keeps me with flawless victory until the last level...at which point I get Molyneux down to a little less than half health and he stops arriving, just casting lightning from off screen and sending endless waves to eventually wreck me.

EDIT: Yeah, this game's a bit broken. Every time Moleneux comes, he ends up going off screen and never coming back. It's a game-breaking bug.

I just got the "Molineux No Respawn" bug, I allowed the enemy to over run the house then restarted the level. On the seccond attempt I was able to clear the level and proceed on to the ending sceene. I will invistigate the bug further. I hope the escapist will allow me to patch the game if I do find what is causing this.

A TD game with Rescource-gathering . . . didn't figure it out until half-way through the missions. Not bad at all though.

Pros: Excellent writing, great gameplay, exciting throughout, funny, strategic

Cons: None really, it did take me half of the first level to figure out the blue+red bars, but thanks to Yahtzee's comments in his review I was able to figure everything out quickly and actually enjoyed learning to play while playing. Also noticed that while the writing started off very strong, it began to drop off on the later levels' day journals. Still stayed far above anything I would expect from the internet.

This is perhaps the best online flash game I have ever played. IMO, it deserves first place, but 2 was always my favourite number anyways. Great work!

EDIT: Ever since spike imps became availabe, I used a simple strategy of having 2 rows of spikes, 1 row of bats, and then a a row for each resource-imp. My house never once took a hit; even Mario was too confused by the spike imps to attempt jumping over the bats. I had a lot of fun with this strategy, and it was always interesting to develop new orders to place them so that I would run the least risk of getting swarmed when an imp disappears, but nevertheless my strategy is a game-breaker. Maybe you could make some enemies invincible to spike-imps?

Ground Spikes, plus 2 columns of Trolls, and one of Gamers, plus Red Flag, plus EPIC CLICKING SPEED SKILLZ = Impossible to lose.

Snipers and Ground Spikes are WAY OP in this.

If you just keep clicking and maintain the healers in the back, you get infinite of them and they just keep raping everything.

Although Ground Spikes don't work very well on the last level (against the boss, one clicked skill can kill one knight by itself, add in snipers...).

You should probably have toned down the power of the Ground Spikes clicked skill.

And I had the same Molyneux no respawn bug, I had him down to half health and then he never showed up again, I thought it was just one of those moments where the boss leaves and his minions beat up on you for awhile.

Until after 5 minutes he hadn't come back...

My Tower Defense self shined through here. this game is a whole barrel of fun, and pretty challenging. although I managed to beat each level on one attempt without even realizing there are clicked skills.

...round 2, here I come!

This game was mildly difficult at the higher levels, until I realised that 2-3 rows of Sniper Rifles, 1-2 rows of Internet Trolls, and filling in any missing spaces with the Nerd Imps makes a defense more impenitrable than solidified Branston Pickle. :p

And yet Yahtzee said: "the difficulty ramps up to near impossibility towards the end,"

I guess this means I can't satisfy everyone. I am more a fan of the spike, bat, gamer, troll, sniper deployment order. I like games where there is more than one way to win, and it pleases me to hear that people are finding their own favorite imp setups.

Pretty fun game, once I figured out what I was doing.

I'm not sure if anyone else has pointed this out, but the flags absolutely RAPE Molyneux at the end.

It's alright. However there may be a bug. I spent like 10min on (what I guess is) the Boss stage whacking waves of soidlers and Molyneux retreated away and never came back to get what's coming.

I hope my earlier comment didn't seem jerkishly, I was definitely satisfied by the game (admitedly plagued by nightmares of the sounds the imps made while they were being flung out of Yatzee's brain). The first couple of tries (learning the bars and the defenses while Old-As-Fuck-Snake shot my people and Mario jumped everything to give Yatzee a nice Bum Fuck)was indeed difficult. And then when that Fable thing appeared, it got a little bit hectic to the point where I actually started losing a handful of times (admitedly I got that glitch once or twice).

But I like difficult things, especially once I find a way to pass them. Ninja Gaiden is both praised and insulted for it's difficulty. Personally, I just got mad that they took out the Blood and put in Shakeable boobies in the remake. THE BOOBS ARE BIG ENOUGH TO SHAKE JUST DUE TO EARTH'S GRAVITATIONAL PULL! GIVE ME BACK THE BLOOD THAT LITTERALLY GAVE ME A HARD ON!

But enough about that, back to this game. This game deserves it's high ranking. It gets difficult on your first few tries, but once you know what you're doing, it's just Tower Defense fun, and it definitely beats anything I could try to come up with. And yes, you give us several options for our defenses, many of which that do have the capacity to work once you figure them out, and that's a good plus. As for the Sniper Defense, I'm a fan of Death-By-Firing-Squad, and having Imps do it makes it even funnier, considering that most creatures their size (Elves, Dwarfs, Pixies) would probably be blasted backwards a few feet by the gun's recoil. XD

once you get the flag imp, its ridiculously easy.

Just make 2 rows of spike imps on the far right, 1 row of flag imps a bit to the left of that, and one row each of the 2 resource imps (#s 1 & 2). Then just make sure to resummon a row when it disappears and its easy. I didn't even know the imps HAD special abilities and I was able to beat it easily.

The last level is slightly trickier but just apply liberal use of flag and resource imps and its quite easy.

I liked it, everything about it was good, though it was too slow, I'd like it more if the fanboys moved faster.

I've beat the game four times, and didn't know they had a special attack! Cool. I'm gonna go try one.
