Natalie's pod too crashed to the ground, the hatch opening soon afterward. Storm's question come over her comm as she was collecting her gear and stepping out; the sniper quickly got behind the cover that her pod provided. Rifle in hand, she leaned out from behind her pod and brought her weapon up to look through the scope. Doubtless there were a fair few hostiles, judging by the plasma fire heading their way.

A pan left to right through Natalie's scope revealed a decent-sized force. Elites mostly, with a fair few Grunts and Jackals backing them up. The latter bugged Natalie; specifically, their damned shields. But such emotions were irrelevant in the heat of combat. They only hampered her, made her lose sight of what was important. She could not afford to get angry or upset. With that in mind she brought her attention back to the situation. Her crosshairs landed on a blue-armoured Elite as she upped the zoom level. Nothing special, but deadly enough in numbers.

One quick check to turn the safety off, making sure to keep sight of her target... Natalie pulled the trigger after a second's hesitation to ensure a hit. A grim smile formed on her face as the alien dropped, a gaping hole in the back of its head. One less to worry about, she thought as she immediately began to search for a second target.

The jolt of the pop colliding was always disorienting, but Forrest did his best to collect himself before the pod popped open. Dropping into the dust of the world, he immediately checked his surroundings before sliding into a nearby patch of cover. It was obvious that they were out numbered, but he hadn't expected the forces to outnumber them by this much.

He unholstered his SMG and flicked the safety off. From the safety of cover, he rose up and fired a quick bead into the nearest grunt, its squeals of pain and explosion of methane attracted a couple of the other grunts to his position, where he proceeded to pick them off one by one. He kept his position hidden, by sliding from cover to cover and utilizing the silencer on his SMG. The longer he could avoid detection, the more enemies he would draw to his location.

Like the others, he waited to see if Storm's immediate question would be given an answer.

Snow slotted his gear into place as he clambered into his pod, and secured himself to his seat. Once settled, he tried to distract himself from the fact that he was to once again, be hurled at the surface of a planet from orbit, and all the myriad ways that him and his squads life were thrown to the mercies of physics and luck. It was terrifying, yet exhilarating.

The countdown blared through the speakers as he concentrated on what he could see when he lands: pods going off target, landing wrong, upside down, pods malfunctioning and roasting the occupant. The people he'd need to help strengthened his resolve, as his pod thumped out of its bay.

Snow closed his eyes during the drop, seeing the world he was dropping onto was just too much to take in when he needed to be focused on the mission. The sudden stop at the end was a pretty good sign he was on the ground anyway.

The pod crashed into the ground and set Snow's ears to ringing. Having given his head a shake to clear his senses, he grabbed his rifle and hit the release on the pod door, helping blow the door off with a kick. He found his pod has landed, then fallen on its side, fortunately enough with the door on the top.

Crouching up to peek out of his pod, he found an ongoing firefight between covenant ground forces and the squadmembers who landed before him, a dozen or so meters to the east of him. Rising enough to aim his weapon, he peppered a squad of Kig'yar to try and ease some of the pressure on his comrades.

Today was a glorious day for battle.

'Xytamee and his team of warriors had moved through the human positions with relative ease. The pathetic creatures were no match for the strength of battle-hardened Sangheili. Behind them, pairs of Unggoy were setting up plasma turrets to cover the entrance of this massive cave. Kig-yar and lower ranking Sangheili had taken up positions in the cleared out bunkers on the hills surrounding it as well. With their flank covered, 'Xytamee and his team could move forward without too much concern.

Somehow, this cave seemed even larger on the inside. The walls and ceiling were lined with metal that had corroded away in many spots, revealing the natural rock in large splotches. Unlike the majority of ruins left behind by the Forerunners, this place was in particularly bad shape. 'Xytamee wondered briefly why these sacred ruins were in such terrible condition, but mentally shrugged. That was a question better left to the scientists. He was a warrior.

The squad reached a large door at the end of the corridor. Thankfully, its holographic controls in the corner were still functional. 'Xytamee ordered one of his men to open the door. The rest took up positions, should there be any remaining Human presence beyond the doors. 'Xytamee withdrew his plasma rifle and held it in his off-hand; even his blade had its limitations.

The door emitted a loud tone and began to open slowly. Almost immediately, small arms fire filled the air. The Sangheili tasked with opening the door was riddled with bullets and torn apart in an explosion of blue gore. They had set up heavy weaponry overlooking the door, anticipating their approach. Although Humans were at best pests, 'Xytamee had to admit it was a wise idea.

Of course, that changed nothing about their fate.

'Xytamee unleashed a volley of plasma from his rifle, which caught one of the defending Humans dead-center in the chest. The creature crumpled to the ground with a smoking hole in its armor. 'Xytamee holstered his energy sword and primed a plasma grenade. He hurled the ignited device into the fray. As expected, Humans cried out in their primitive tongue and dove for cover. From his own cover, he could hear the detonation of the grenade and the sounds of screams.

It was only a matter of time before they broke through.

From the moment Virgil's pod hit the dirt, he knew what to do.

He unlatched his gear and got his BR55 at the ready, just in time for the door charges to detonate, blasting the front of the pod clear. Ducking through a volley of plasma fire, he swung around and took cover behind the vehicle.

"Sir, you manage to spot how many we are dealing with? Didn't have a chance for headcount."

The VISIR system identified the speaker as Echo Six. Virgil activated the helmet's built-in mic with his chin and opened a channel to the rest of the squad.

"This Echo Actual. The drop was shaky but I spotted-"

"Approximately eighty hostiles." Tyr interrupted him. "My guess is forty "Grunts", ten "Jackals", and thirty "Elites". Not an occupation force, by any means. This is definitely a special task group. They have been moving to the north and clearing out our positions as they go. Small numbers of troops are being left behind as they advance, in addition to turret emplacements. At their current pace, they will reach the ruins before you do."

The approximate locations of the hostiles appeared on Virgil's motion tracker.

"Fuck! We're gonna have to move, fast." He peered out of cover with his BR at the ready. Taking aim at a Grunt who very arrogantly stood in the open, he fired a three round burst that pierced its mask and exited out the back of its skull. Gas escaped from the ruptured apparatus and bright blue blood splattered on his comrades, who wisely took cover. "We need to move, now. Tyr, find us a path that doesn't get us fried."

"Can do. Calculating." After a brief pause, two red arrows appeared on the HUD, one to the northeast and one to the northwest. Two bunkers sat on raised hills that overlooked the entrance of a large, cave-like structure. Virgil could see the distant shimmering of Jackal shields. The Covenant have already taken those positions...but he could see what Tyr had in mind. Hit the left and right flanks from above, then descend and move in.

"Good idea. Echo Squad, we're splitting up. Echo Two, Four and Six are on me. The rest of you are on Echo Seven. My team will clear out the northeast bunker, and Seven's team will clear the northwest bunker. Wipe out the Covies inside and we'll hit the sonsofbitches down below. Copy, Echo Squad?"

"Copy, Echo Actual." Storm replied, jumping from cover for a moment to pump a few rounds into several grunts. Two of them dropped from the hail of gunfire, while the others dove to different cover. This provided Storm the necessary space and break to get to another group of rocks closer to the northeast bunker, which was now her primary target. After taking cover, and making sure that the ensuing plasma fire didn't catch her unaware, she took the time to look about and see what she might be dealing with. She noted a few shimmering lights, which most likely meant Covenant Shields, meaning that her grenades would probably be used to best effect against their coming opponents...and the bunker.

"Echo Actual, I am approaching the position now. Can I bomb them back to hell, or bullets only?" Storm asked, wanting to make sure that she didn't descend upon the enemy too quickly and be caught surrounded, or simply start throwing grenades where they were not supposed to go. At the moment, she would just be content returning fire upon the Covenant as they popped out. Nothing solid other than a few hits to a Covenant Shield or some blood spatter from hitting a grunt. Though, from time to time she would note the glimmer of a shield, meaning that there was an elite over there keeping everyone in line. While it would be nice to drop him, Storm doubted that at this range she could get him with her rifle, nor throw a grenade to get him.

Natalie was a mite surprised that the Gunnery Sergeant had chosen her to take command of one of the teams. There were likely a few Corporals within the squad, superior to her in rank. Regardless, she accepted the role Landon had given her. "Copy, Echo Actual," she confirmed before turning her attention to the marker on her HUD pointing northwest. A bunker, one that the others would likely have better luck clearing. A plan soon came together in her mind.

"Echo Three, Five, Eight, start making your way to the northwest bunker. Leapfrog formation, cover one another as you go. I'll provide additional covering fire myself, and catch up when I can. Go! Allons-y!" With that, she popped up from her cover and fired a few shots in the general direction of the Jackal shields she could see through her scope. It wouldn't be enough to cause any casualties, but it would make the bastards think twice before stepping out to defend their position. Keeping the Covenant pinned down would stop them from catching sight of her team.

As Natalie continued her suppressive fire, she spotted a Grunt running out into the open at the edge of her scope. She began to track it for a moment before she dropped it with a headshot. A warning to the other Covenant in the area: stay down or suffer a similar fate. Hopefully they would get the message.

Myles felt a slight jerk as the chute opened on his pod; the follow up of it detaching and the thrusters on the bottom activating was almost as rough. The red heat surrounding the pod from entry dissipated and he gave his pod a light spin as to avoid it opening in the same direction as many of the others. No point in everyone being in open fire upon exit.

Just after Myles finished his thought, his pod hit the ground, and the door opened. Streaks of plasma and pink shards flew past his pod as he slung his MA5K carbine onto his back and drew his M6C/SOCOM pistol. Without a place to carry the M168 Demolition Charge on his person Myles was reduced to using the sidearm while he carried the device.

Stepping out of his pod plasma continued to impact the back of his pod and he turned out of cover and zoomed in on a firing grunt. The weight of the demolition charge through off his aim as he missed the first two shots at a grunt?s head; the third hit the top of its methane tank. The top of the tank ripped open and a red flame ignited, before the canister quickly exploded killing another grunt in nearby cover. Myles quickly ducked back into cover.

?Echo Squad, we're splitting up. Echo Two, Four and Six are on me. The rest of you are on Echo Seven. My team will clear out the northeast bunker, and Seven's team will clear the northwest bunker. Wipe out the Covies inside and we'll hit the sonsofbitches down below. Copy, Echo Squad??

?Copy, Echo Actual. Echo two moving to designated location,? Myles replied back to Gunnery Sergeant Virgil Landon as he took off from his cover northeast towards the marked bunker; firing off more rounds and taking cover when enemy fire became too hot.

"Solid copy, Actual. Echo Eight moving to regroup on Seven, could use some cover when I ditch my pod." Snow ducked back down into his pod and secured his pack and other spare gear as he peeked over the edge of the pod again, looking for the safest route towards Echo Seven and the northwest bunker.

Seeing an opening with good cover and only a few hostiles, Snow gripped the edge and pulled himself over the pod and landed in a crouch, bracing himself against the pod. Leaning around the corner, he spotted a pair of grunts looking his way and dropped them with a burst each, center mass. Whether they were kill shots themselves he didn't know, but it was definitely enough to rupture their suits, good enough to let him sprint across the field unscathed.
