(In the UK) Why is Modern warfare 2 an 18?

I was having a quick browse along for the modern warfare 2 pre-order prices, and i found something odd. modern warfare 2 is an 18. i've got nothing against that, i asked about it a few weeks ago and got mixed answers. i'm just wondering why it's going to be an 18.

I remember in the one trailer it showed a brief snippit of some dude right before the Task Force 141 guys started torturing him. So if you get to watch that then that might be your answer.

This is true, but your not allowed to see active combat duty until after you turn eighteen, so it's sort of a moot point.

Oh, I suppose that MW2 will be more violent. Remember that part in the trailer when that guy tackles another guy and just plunges a knife into him while the other guy begs for mercy. Gruesome.

i've watched the trailer, and i've analyzed this.

- 2 torture scenes
- 2 people been stabbed by an ice pick
- a castle blowing up
- blood (no-brainer)
- civilians (hostage situations?)

Realistic answer: It is an 18 because doing so will somehow stop children from buying it.
Stupid answer: It is an 18 because children will apparently turn into violent misogynistic rapists if they play a video game which has violence and/or women in.

Actually I should imagine the main reason is that PEGI have only recently taken over from the BBFC and they need to ensure that they escape without any sort of bad publicity.

Because the BBFC 15 rating is gone from games, it might also include blood, World at War being the first CoD to include actual factual bloodshed. Rape, murder, decapitation is fine, but blood... zomg automatic 18 rating!

You need to be old enough to understand that if you buy the game despite the raised price you're playing right into Activisions hands. You need to be able to face the consequences once they start raising price on every other game.
