In your opinion, what musicians have had a sudden decline in quality?

I was listening to Lil Wayne (I Am Not a Human Being 2 specifically), and I noticed he is just so far from his old standard of quality. This is the same way I feel about The XX's last album. So dear Escapists, what artists have just taken a shit in quality and what album was the indicator?

Well, not really sudden but the quality of Metallica's music has changed over the course of their long career. You can notice a slip with 'Load' and then two albums later 'St Anger' is stinking up the music store. After that is 'Death Magnetic' which isn't too bad but it still has nothing on their first few.

Sometimes it's just better to stop then to ram the quality into the ground.

Bullet For My Valentine.

I'm not against artists changing their overall sound. I like Bring Me The Horizon far more now than I did back with Count Your Blessings, even though they sound nothing like they did on their debut anymore.

I even liked Fever, which had some really good tracks like "The Last Fight", "Breaking Out, Breaking Down", "Begging For Mercy", and "Pretty On The Outside". But Temper, Temper is just... embarrassing. When your debut album is more technically impressive than your fourth, something has gone wrong.

Delain, I'd say. It's maybe not a well known band though. It's a metal band from the Netherlands. (though they sing in English.) Their style went from symphonic rock/symphonic metal to...I don't know, a softer kind of metal/rock that...just doesn't sound as good as their first two ablums to me. More commercialized I guess? It's like they suddenly changed their music style for the worse with their third.

I'll provide audio help with this one, as this is a topic filled with personal burnings...

Radiohead isn't what it used to be either.

Can I say Linkin Park and not be judged? Don't get me wrong, Living Things is a wonderful album and it's like older albums which makes me happy, but Meteora will always be my favorite CD by them, and Hybrid Theory is one of the greatest albums of all time in my honest opinion. A Thousand Suns was just so....eh to me.

EDIT; I know I forgot Minutes of Midnight..let's pretend that doesn't exist, k? The only good song off of that CD was What I've done to me..

Too late; judging so hard right now at this betrayal

...

Did you fall for my elaborate ruse?

OT: I... honestly can't say. Maybe it's something with me, but I always think "Well, someone out there likes it, so I can't say"

I hate/dislike songs, not the band/singer... unless they're really asking for it

I'm gonna make a bold claim and say the whole hip-hop industry with exceptions to some underground artists.

The latest Red Hot Chili Peppers album was a big pile of testicles. I guess that's what happens when you lose a musical genius like John Frusciante, but even then, a lot of Stadium Arcadium was a bit boring too.

Trivium, In Flames, Pendulum...

I think the general rule is that if a band's third album sucks, they've sold out. Nothing lasts forever but some bands get stale faster than others.

I agree partially, but some of the mainstream still puts out good stuff. A$AP Rocky, Tyga, Yeezy, Eminem, Rick Ross, Wiz Khalifa, and Drake are putting out good content.

Green Day. The moment Billie Joe got on his Bush-hating their music went downhill.

And I'm not GW Bush fan but he took it to an asinine level.

No mentions of MUSE? They've been a bit shit on the last two or three albums, depending who you ask. Everything is still composed well, but the overall albums are tonally and musically all over the place, and the lyrics are getting worse, and there's no heavier edge at all.

Also I thought the last lamb of god album was a bit duller than their usual output. Not a massive decline, but it's certainly there. They sound like they're just coasting along without really doing anything new with the music.

I don't really like the new Alice in Chains all that much. A couple songs from Black gives way to Blue were okay, but the rest of them and the stuff from their new album are just piss poor. All of their songs have that low harmony constant-chorus feel to them in my opinion.

Gonna mention Green Day as well. I really wish they started to sound like 90's Green Day again instead of that pop band they are now.

Weezer. That's not to say that their music was all that good until they went to complete crap [small](Make Believe, anybody?)[/small], but they still were able to crank out a few good songs now and then. Then Raditude happened. Just... the hell, guys... The hell...

Yeah, I will have to agree with you there. Although I didn't really mind American Idiot that much.

I would also have to say that the Arctic Monkey's album Suck it and See was pretty mediocre. There are one or two good songs, but for the most part the album is just so bland. Nothing compared to their previous stuff. Though the singles they have released recently are very good, so perhaps they are getting back to what made them great.

Static-X. I loved all of their albums up to, and including Cannibal, but Cult of Static was just bad.

I hate to say this because I love her but I wasn't a huge fan of Amanda Palmer's last album.
The Dresden Dolls were so original and her first solo album was solid but her new stuff is kind of naff.
