I don't keep up with gaming news enough to be able to approach this in any rational way. However, two massive disappointments for me were/are Blizzard's World of Warcraft and Irrational Games' Freedom Force. FF was simply just boring and too unfocused, and failed to deliver any proper introduction to the game mechanics. WoW was a disappointment because I was loving Warcraft 3 and it's expansion et al, but found WoW to be the most mindnumbingly boring gaming experience of my life. I honestly had more fun playing MapleStory. To me, WoW ruined a great franchise, but I can hardly call it a flop, seeing as it's the biggest game today.

The worst flop of all time? Twilight Princess, easily. The runner-up is ME2, which is in turn followed closely by KOTOR 2.

The worst game of all time? ^I don't know^, but I thought Lost Odyssey was nothing short of painful.
Wait, how was KOTOR2 a flop? It was better then KOTOR at everything... Aside from having a ton of unfinished content because the game was rushed. But that hardly removed all the improvements over the "original". Better story, better characters, better feat selections, and pretty kickass environments.

On topic, Duke Nukem Forever.

Hahaha, oh wow.

Sorry, but I don't see how Twilight Princess can be 'easily' considered a flop, by any stretch of the imagination.
1. It was a Zelda game, which are ostensibly all very good.
2. It had Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask to live up to.
3. It wasn't the second coming of Jesus, and as such was a flop.

Daikatana anyone?
Exactly!
How can anyone not remember this? Am I that old by gamer standards?
I still remember seeing the terrible ad campaign in PC Gamer and wondering: 'What the heck is this crap?'

Duke Nukem Forever. The only game that was so bad that when it was released, it was immediately removed from shelves and the devs claimed "they're reworking the engine." Yeah, like I believe that. /sarcasm

But 12 years and nothing to prove? I'd say that's a HUGE flop.

*Sigh*... Yup, pretty much.

I'd say the game I was most excited to play MP on, but was so disappointed with was MW2. I just... can't play it anymore. Hell, I barely ever could play it, let alone enjoy it.

This is probably THE biggest flop in the industry's history, followed closely by ET.

It's so weird, my hand refuses to click the Install button. The biggest problem is the damn internet requirement. I have it on a PC that since recent has no internet and the other PC has its EA Download Manager fcked up. That's what they get, when stuff is just surrounded by gazillion of shitware.

P.S.
Got it for free.

I'm going with Alone in the Dark. I've not played it but the trailers and gameplay demos made it sound amazing.

Then I saw it in gamestation 2 months later for a fiver. Yeah.

Kotor II
The game had so much going for it, but then Lucas arts decided that it should be released around christmas, so the game ended up a buggy, unplayable mess with probably the shortest and worst ending ever.

Tempting to go with ET or daikatana as great flops, but the old games also cost relatively little money to develop, compared to games nowadays.

Duke nukem forever was never released and just flushing money down a toilet doesn't count as an actual flop.

Spore was heavily pirated, but there were also alot of people who bought into the hype before they learned of their mistake.

I'll go with C&C4 as greatest flop.
C&C4 must have cost alot to make with all the actors and props and a modern development team. Pretty much everybody hated it. I don't think it sold.

Every C&C after Generals and Driv3r...god Driv3r....had all this hype and all this level design, great physics and then they ruin it with bugs, bad story, and terrible AI.

It sounds like people are getting confused between flop and I didn't like it.

Psychonauts comes to mind first, that sold terribly and really it's an example of why game developers don't try new things. That game was great in so many ways, but sold nothing. In a business you sell what actually sells.

Worst. FUCKING. Game. Ever
Damn...was gonna say that. More because of how big it was "supposed" to be. A trilogy that was supposed to be so huge.

Edit: Sheesh, people just putting personal flops. Biggest flop of all time implies universally, not just for you. I wouldnt say Halo 3 for example, because as big a let down for me as it was, its still popular as hell. Hardly a flop.
right? It looked so freaking rad, then I rented it and was like, "hmm, I can't get past the first area because I can't hit anything!" Control and aim fail.
