Games still come in cases? How quaint, and at the same time archaic. As for my old games I threw out the cases long ago, who needs that garbage cluttering up your house? I use disc portfolios as well, as much as I hate them now, I would hate a ton of cases everywhere.

For the DS, there's really no excuse for losing the case, but I'm not averse to buying cartridge only games if they're cheap enough. Same thing with disc only games -- I've got a pretty good sized stack of disc only PS2 games that I bought for two or three bucks a piece when Gamestop was getting rid of their cheaper titles that way.

If I buy online it's usually through Amazon and even then only new things. If I buy used it's usually through Gamestop because it'll usually be a case of me being late to the party so the speak and it's a cult classic niche game whose prices have been jacked up online but Gamestop still sells it for $10-$20 depending.

It used to be that if I really, really want it I'll buy it without the case if I have to, but nowadays it's more than likely to be a deal breaker if I have to buy a game in a stand-in "Gamestop" box.

Yeah if there was any way to verify that the game still worked as it was supposed to, it's not a deal breaker for me. Oh it has to be cheap enough to justify that though. Though I have never bought a game without a case to be honest. What I *have* bought games in a different case and a fake cover before, at least they went through some effort to keep it in a semblance of good condition, in fact it was perfect, just didn't have the original case or manual.

I pretty much always look for games that at the very least have a case and either cover slip or manual, i try and buy whole games, including older cartridges as a collector, it irks me when games don't have protective cases because they accrue dust and damage

PS3 - I don't care. Since I can download and print out my own case art, and I can always get more PS3 sized cases, it's not a big problem for me.

Any other CD-based system, though, that's gonna be a problem. I happen to know that no other console bothers to scratch-proof their discs to the blu-ray standard. Cheap is as cheap does. I don't want to pay for a frisbee.

When I bought the used edition of Halo Anniversary Edition, I only got a sleeve. It bothered me at first, but I got over it quick. It's not that big of a deal, but I would still prefer a box if available. Unless there's a significant price difference, ($5) I'll take the box.

I hate that listing. Usually I'll be ok if it has a case, unless the cover art is cool. Unfortunately I recently had to settle for a generic jewel case for Gundam Battle Assault 2 (great game btw) due to the case and cover being ten bucks more. I do require jewel cases for PS1 games because I keep them in a holder that only fits that size. PS2 games I'm more lenient about, and PS3 games almost always have everything for now.

Usually this will also mean more scratches because of the lack of case, so I tend to find very good/like new conditions to be the best.

If it's pre PS1, I'll take a box if I can get it (especially on disc-based games), but I won't spend a huge amount more for a box- I'd say maybe a difference of 20% would do it.

If it's after PS1, 100% deal breaker. I don't own any games newer than PS1 that aren't complete, and I'm not going to change that. I'd prefer to get cases/manuals for the few PS1 games I don't have them for. Older than that is typically too hard to find, so I'm accepting game-only is what I'm stuck with.

Wait . Manuas still comes with games ? * checks "injustice : gods among us " box * This is what you call a manual ? Damn youngin's know nothing about what a real manual is .

OT: Not a deal breaker for me , as long as it comes in SOMETHING ( any kind of case will work ), and the disc isn't scratched .
Pretty much this, but I only buy used if I can test the disk. So this alleviates the issue somewhat of it being non-functioning.

I bought a DVD set like that one time. I have not been able too find them in many years. I would not buy a Disk set like that again. Unless they are 30% cheaper.

You are talking to someone who recently spent $40 on an empty Mega Man X box for SNES, and is likely capable and willing to spend much more to get some other specific EMPTY GAME BOXES.

I like video games, a lot. This means I like them even when I am not playing them... so they better look damn good on my shelf! This is also why a digital only future is an alien and infeasible concept to me. I'm probably the wrong person to ask. XD

I love having an organized shelf where I have the dvd cases in a specific order, so I actually hate taking out a case to play a game :p
The portfolio might be perfect for you, then. You can still have the cases on the shelf, but all the discs will be in the book :D

Whatever, just wash your hands.
I'll bet soon the cases will be worth more than the games... if they aren't already worth more.

If it's marginally cheaper it isn't a dealbreaker. If it's a few dollars less, I'll buy it with the case. Though I have friends that kept their N64 games and still had the cardboard boxes. Is that like, a thing? I threw those out pretty much immediately, they did fine without them.
