I'm casually involved in TF2 trading, and I often hang around trade servers even when I'm not looking to trade. Lately, there seems to be an increased number of people looking to buy Steam trading cards, but I can't see any reason why their value or desirability might have gone up. Has Valve implemented some change to the trading card system that I have missed, or is there another reason why people are more eager to buy them?

you can sell them for real money, I pawned off about 100 of them at once and made about 10.00$ so maybe people are trying to make money

Basically what Orange12345 said. Plus collecting Steam Trading Cards is a fast way to gain Steam levels which add features to your steam profile (and the higher Steam level you are the higher the chance you have of getting a booster pack).

Also, some people just love to hoard stuff. :p

Which has always been the case, furthermore their value on the market has only been decreasing. I don't see how that answers OP's question.
