Give your recommendations , escapists .

Mine are -

Nuclear Throne . The early access was released in 2013 but has been getting updates ever since . A good fast paced 2D shooter .

Risk Of Rain - An infuriatingly challenging rogue-like action platformer with multiple character classes and plenty of items. Amazing soundtrack.

Crypt Of Necrodancer - A well made rhythm based dungeon crawler .

Writing up this list made me acutely and embarrassingly aware of my shortcomings in describing games.
Had to redo it all over and substitute my ..descriptions.. with their own words in quotation marks.

Tales of Maj'Eyal - "free, open source roguelike RPG, featuring tactical turn-based combat and advanced character building."

One Finger Death Punch - "cinematic kung-fu battles in the fastest, most intense brawler the indie world has ever seen!" (Check out TotalBiscuit's WTF on it)

Transcendence - "Space Combat and Exploration in a Vast and Dangerous Galaxy"

Smugglers 3/4/5 - "turn-based science-fiction space trading game series."

<link=http://www.soldak.com/Drox-Operative/Overview.html>Drox Operative - "starship action RPG with warring alien races, fierce space battles, a dynamic, evolving galaxy, and co-op multiplayer"

Craft the World - "sandbox strategy game, the mix of Dungeon Keeper, Terraria and Dwarf Fortress."

Salt - "Salt is a game based around exploration and adventure where you sail across a vast ocean exploring different islands."

<spoiler=Public Alpha/Beta>
Gnomoria - "sandbox village management game"

Darkout - Think Terraria with better graphics and putting emphasis on lights vs darkness.

Rimworld - "A sci fi colony sim driven by an intelligent AI storyteller."

Wayward - "turn-based, top-down, wilderness survival roguelike"

<spoiler=Keeping an eye on>
Interstellaria - "2d space SIM/RPG/Sandbox game" (Etalyx got a good vid on youtube)

M.O.R.E - "Space strategy M.O.R.E. - Military, Organization, Research, Exploration"

Predestination - "turn-based space 4X game"

<link=http://www.moddb.com/games/stars-of-icarus>Stars of Icarus - "top-down Space-Shooter for Adobe Flash, focused on a deep combat system and exploration, featuring RPG elements."

VoidExpanse - "Science Fiction, top-down action roleplaying game set in outer space."

Out There - "hard sci-fi space exploration game blending roguelike, resource management and gamebook mechanics."

Unclaimed World - "hard sci-fi, colony sim game about survival and exploration of an alien planet."

Drifter - "sandbox space trading game".

Dwell - "multiplayer sandbox MMORPG"

<link=https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/fugitivegames/into-the-stars>Into the Stars - "A single player open-world journey through a distant solar system. Scavenge resources, manage your ship and lead your crew in combat."

Now, some of these might be in the wrong category, a bit old or even seemingly vapourware..
It's hard to keep track. Take Notice.

Well, if anyone wants the old arena FPS experience of the early 00's, TOXIKK is definitely worth looking at. I rarely buy early access games, but TOXIKK has already pleasantly surprised me by being really far along. It's actually a functional game and whatnot, really good.

True, I suck ass at it, but I'm glad to be playing the game I always wished UT3 was but didn't end up being.

This War of Mine- A 2D sidescroller type game. Sort of artsy in case people want to avoid that sort of thing. Unlike most war games it explores war based on the point of view of survivors instead of soldiers. A variety of hardships can crop up during the game that can force you to make hard decisions.

2D puzzleplatformer. Very good game, don't know which platforms it's on, at least Nintendo and PC.

Never Alone, a puzzle platformer based in Native Alaskan folklore and mythology and produced in coordination with a Inupiaq community. Beautiful art style as well.

Minecraft (a sandbox for (very slowly) building stuff out of 1m-cubed blocks), FTL (Unique roguelike in space), Hotline Miami (colorfull, trippy, topdown, ultraviolent twitch game), Bastion (great soundtrack and a neat little game attached to it), Transistor (succesor to bastion), The Stanley Parable (game about choice in video games), Papers Please (story driven, unique gameplay), Kerbal Space Programme (physics based spaceship designer), Don't Starve (survival game), Guacemelee (metroidvenia), Antichamber (abstract puzzel game), 10 second ninja (minimax 2d platformer), Rogue Legacy (rogue light, procedurally generated combat focussed 2d platformer), Loadout (third person multiplayer free to play shooter), Frozen Synapse, (turn based multiplayer tactics game) Xenonauts (old xcom clone). Those are the ones I like.

Captcha: 'seems legit.' well, it is.

Hotline Miami - a great top-down action game. Teeth-grindingly hard, but when you get the hang of it, it's not bad. Plus, it has a great atmosphere, soundtrack, and story.

Marlow Briggs and The Mask of Death - a DMC style hack n' slash and probably the most awesome indie budget I've ever witnessed.

Eldritch: pseudo-rogue-like-fps featuring Lovecraftian horrors with a Minecraft-esque artstyle.

Cthulhu Saves the World: the title says it all.

Curse of the Crescent Isle is really fun. It's a retro-platformer that takes the Super Mario Bros. 2 idea of jumping on/throwing enemies and gives it some interesting twists. Each enemy you jump on behaves differently and interacts with enemies and the environment in unique ways.

It's not quite as polished as Shovel Knight, but it's a lot of fun, and super cheap on XBLA
