Whats everyone's stance on Indie (Independently Developed) Games?

Me personally I see them as a great bonus, I've found some genuine gems of games and they was Indie's 2 good examples would be "Samorost", "Ben there Dan That / Time Gentlemen Please! Double Pack" and "Shatter"

I Think there Bringing in a wave of fresh air into the gaming industry and outlets like Steam are a great way to get there games out there, I Remember reading that an interview with one of the guys (I Think one of the guys from the publisher) involved with "Borderlands" expressed concern that Steam might not be the best outlet for them to get there games out due to fee's and the such, but I feel that its also about getting them noticed and on the map more than the cash initially.

I've started playing the BTDT / TGP double pack and im quite enjoying the humour and its rather a nice blast from the past from the style of old lucasarts point and click adventure style, Something I Would Highly Recommend on steam for anyone who don't mind a short but sweet game should maybe look at the Samorost and the Double pack I mentioned they will both run you about ?3.99 on steam.

But what is your thoughts on Indie Development and how do you people think its effecting gaming?

I like indie games, but only so long as they don't cost too much. Any indie game that retails for more than $15 is kidding itself.

Samorost. No.
Do yourself a favour.
http://machinarium.net/demo/ <-- by the same guys behind Samorost.

As for indie games overall, I think they can fill some gaming needs that your typical, triple-A super blockcuster releases of doom can't, simply because investors are breathing down the necks of the devs, and many risks that could lead to damn sweet gameplay-story-design-whatever aren't taken because of that.
Indies don't have that problem, and sometimes produce true gems of amazing quality.

Some are fantastic pieces of work.

They are also hotbeads for creativity. Maybe not so much in gameplay, but in story.

I'm not sure if mods count as "indie titles", but they are also just as important. With some really great modders actually getting hired for their work and given a budget and a team to help make the mod into a full fledged game (ex: Counter Strike, Team Fortress).

Plus, indie games are a sweet release from all the brown "realistic" crap that seems to be all the rage these days...

EDIT: I also recommend Audiosurf if you have lots of music on your PC. Another example of fantastic and unique indie title.

I think they are a great way for developers to try out new ideas, to see what works and what doesn't.

And every now and then they really do produce some fun little games.

I'm a huge fan of indie games, and tend to buy them on sale. Good ones that I've played include AaaaaAAaaaAAAaaAAAAaAAAAA: A Reckless Disregard for Gravity(Because typing the full title is fun), Bob Came in Pieces, Altitude, Galcon Fusion, and of course World of Goo. They tend to be as good, if not better than a lot of releases in my eyes, but are just far more likely to be looked over. When Steam does an indie pack, I'm a sucker and will usually buy it that day.

Got no access to XBLA Unfortunately... 2nd hand Xbox 360 found to be banned off XBL :(

But it was dirt cheap so I didn't complain :)

The indie community is always a great place to keep an eye out for glimpses of absolute brilliance in game design. I think that most indie games have more passion in their aesthetic than main stream games. It's a work of love, not money.

I'm not too much into indie games, but I do know that what they try to do is bring something creative and new to the table.

For this, I respect 'em :)

And, if you like that, pick up its remake on WiiWare. Support Pixel! NAO!

Personally, I like indie games, but I'm not big on actually going out of my way to find and/or play them. Cave Story and Spelunky [http://spelunkyworld.com] are two of my favorite indie titles, though.

Speaking of which, go play Spelunky. It's also completely free.

I highly advise Spelunky [http://www.spelunkyworld.com/], retro styled and hard like games in my youth were.

2d sidescroller where you have to get as much money as possible, randomised levels so it doesn't get boring and various areas. The traps can be hell if you don't know what you're doing.
[small]I advise always carrying a rock with you, very helpful.[/small]

It's free.

Usually don't mind a good indie game, Shatter was great co-op. Dear Esther was a fantastic mod/ indie game and the upcoming Korsakovia looks amazing.
Plus I really enjoyed The Path and most of what Tale of Tales do.
