Oh dear :p
I have had it crash on me now and then, but never got that error before. It all depends on which version you are playing as well. I think the free Creative Modes are pretty stable, as well as the free Survival mode as well. The indev and infdev versions are much more unstable right now. It is wise to follow his development blog, since he updates it fairly regularly. He'll most likely update it this week :D

A few indie games of the top of my head that are worth getting (now that you've got BTDT and TGP).

Flotilla: a fun space game where you try to take out enemy fleets in 3d space. 10$ at Blendo Games.
Gravity Bone: quirky little game, also from Blendo Games, and free as well.
Darwinia and Uplink by Introversion are fun games to boot.
Featherweigth, another adventure game, though I can't remember from whom. It has nice art direction and a quite haunting atmosphere.
Trine is deffo worth a play if you can find a cheap copy. It tends to be too pricey.

Picked up Toki Tori, Madballs and Zombie Driver Recently

Zombie Driver wasn't bad but I wiped the floor with it with only 3 achievements to go in a only a few hours (50% off at the moment! ?4.49)

http://store.steampowered.com/app/31410/

Madballs is surprisingly fun and is on offer at the moment 75% off ?1.74 quite the bargain

http://store.steampowered.com/app/25700/

Toki Tori is a decent little puzzler that reminds me of the old days

If you was to pick one of the 2 on offer I would more advice Madballs, more bang for less buck

Plain Sight is a really good indie game, I recommend it highly.

It also has, without a doubt, the best achievement names EVER. Here are a couple of them:

Who's the real 7 billion ton robot monster here? Not I...not I.
Land the killing blow on Botzilla

Tempers are wearing thin. Let's hope some robot doesn't kill everybody.
Kill 5 enemies with a single flame sword powerup

Are you sure sir? It does mean changing the bulb.
Tag an object in lighten up that has already been tagged

People like More Fun To Compute should look up Cryptic Comet's games. Solerum Inferium [footnote]I've mis-spelt it, I know.[/footnote] is a proper strategy game.

Also: AI War. RTS of sorts, except bigger, and ignores RTS conventions.

You should check out Madballs on Steam... Its free to play this weekend, and you can buy it dirt cheap ($2.49) I bought it today and it's pretty fun.

A great indie game is Audiosurf... so simple, but so addictive.., I have somehow racked up 29 hours on that since I bought it 2 years ago, according to Steam. You guys should also check out Zeno Clash... It's an acquired taste and very weird, but also very fun. It's a first-person brawler set in a surreal creepy fantasy setting, it also uses the Source engine and looks as good if not better than Orange Box games.

While the XBL Version doesn't have survival mode, it's cheaper.
I personally prefer it for PC, much easier to get your music working in it.
