inFamous 2, my thoughts.

You know how game sequels are designed to be extensions of the original wherein the developers use the previous game as a jumping off point to tell an even grander story? You know how in the advertisements for inFamous 2 we were told that Cole would retain his powers from the first game? Well Sucker Punch succeeded in ignoring both these responsibilities in the most epic of fashions and instead made inFamous 1 again!

?InFamous: Southern Edition? is the timeless tale of the world?s largest ass hole faffing about for approximately nine hours. Honestly, most of the missions have no bearing on the overarching plot. The actual story part of the game does accurately recreate the legendary storytelling of real comic books; as in its poorly written. Each character in the game is about as believable and dynamic as a red shirt from star trek. Cole himself comes across as a schizophrenic lunatic thanks to the duel morality system specifically designed to force the player to play through the damn thing twice. The overarching plot exists exclusively as an excuse to electrify dudes in ever increasingly spectacular ways. All around the story is flat at best and pointless at worst. The end of the story in particular is so astronomically disappointing that I honestly thought the game accidentally skipped an end cut scene or two.

On the point of duel morality systems; why? I understand developers want us to play the game through several times; but why not focus the energy expended on that toward more important things, like making a better game? It?s like they took the first inFamous and polished it to a mirror shine, unfortunately that mirror just reflects generic mediocrity and comic book clichés.

But who cares about story when there are dudes to kill (or ?incapacitate?)! The gameplay and controls are as tight as its predecessor when Cole isn?t stumbling on the rock hard air! I can?t count the number of times the world geometry impeded my progress in a pivotal mission segment. And for some asinine reason Cole enjoys correcting his trajectory mid jump so that he can grab on to some fence three feet above the ground and twenty feet away from where I wanted to be. I believe that?s the definition of ?breaking flow?. In an attempt to negate this auto correction I decided to activate the ground slam every time I jumped off a building, causing untold damage to property and life. This was most likely perplexing to the citizens of ?not New Orleans? as I was trying to be as ?good? as possible.

Sadly the enemy AI all graduated from the college of irritating: when there aren?t a hundred of them on screen at once, there hitting you with RPG?s square in the chest the very nanosecond you round a corner: or hitting you and knocking you down over and over again so often that you can?t even get up to punch ?em in the face. Fortunately for me, I found that every situation could be accomplished by spamming rockets.

At the end of the day it?s fun so shoot electricity out of your hands. It?s fun to pick up cars and throw them at groups of unsuspecting dudes; and it?s fun to push a group of badies off a building, slam onto the ground where they fell (blowing up several cars upon landing), than to throw one of the husks of what was once a nice car at a the fatigued stragglers.

Unfortunately inFamous 2 really does pose more questions than it answers. Why do I need all these powers if only a third of them don?t completely suck? Why can?t I increase my health like the first game? Why am I friends with Zeke when he was a complete tool to me last game? Who is this kuo chick? Can someone only really understand these things if they read the god forsaken tie-in graphic novels? I refuse to take part in your marketing scheme Sucker Punch, and I have a feeling most people feel the same. You?re a game inFamous, remember those? Once upon a time games didn?t feel the need to grovel at the feet of other, more well established forms of media. Games should be strong enough to stand up on their own; they don?t need ridiculous tie-in crap! Would ?The Pianist? of truly been any better if they had made a graphic novel to go with it?

I don?t even understand comic books? They?re nice to look at but about as well written as a third grade play performed by children whom have undergone one too many amateur lobotomies. As well, I find it hard to invest in characters that have one response to every situation; punch it. But perhaps this game isn?t intended for people like me; perhaps I just don?t understand its world shattering brilliance. Or maybe this game was designed exclusively to appeal to the droves of potentially overweight comic book nerds that fantasize about shooting electricity from there asses as they pass off into sleep while wearing their Spiderman nighties. Now excuse me! I have some manga to read!

inFamous 2 gets a 8 out of 10 in my book, because punching dudes is awesome!

I didn't read anything, I was ALMOST going to make an angry comment, but then saw it got an 8 out of 10, so your cool. the next bit is my own personal opinion on your review on the game and how I think it works, but needs tweaking.
My main issue was picked up on when I realized that you were doing what Yahtzee does, so my only reccomendation is to have 2 personas, your actual opinion that is not funny, then have a funny one, that way people won't get confused, or have a list of what was good or bad. But for convience, just focus on writing the wit and all that good stuff, then just spoiler tag a list of what you thought of a game and why it was such. But other then that, you were funny and awesome, keep doing what your doing man.

Only thing I have to say is this considering I haven't played the full game yet.

They fucking changed coles voice and need to die for it.

BTW: not to be a troll or anything but yes this does sound WAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYY to much like yahtzee.

I don't think you're allowed to use the term "Amateur Lobotomies" without being called out for ripping off Yahtzee.

I heard in an interview that they did this to make Cole easier to connect to, which is true. The immersion in game one was lacking because of the voice and how they portrayed Cole, so suckerpunch is trying to correct that.

Yeah maybe it sounded good to you and others but to me it added that sense of "ultimate badass who has been through a lot of shit and is looking for revenge" type deal. This really pushes me away from cole and in the demo made it feel as if they weren't even the same guys really. This one sounds way to text book superhero.
