From the most recent IGN preview of Infamous 2:

Speaking of Uncharted 2, it's time to address the change in Cole. At this point in development ? Sucker Punch was quick to point out there's still at least a year to go on this game ? Cole looks completely different. Beyond the superficial stuff ? his clothes are different, he's got tattoos, and he's wearing necklaces ? his face is pretty much completely different. Cole packed a buzzcut and a gaunt face last time around, but the Cole in Infamous 2, he currently has brown hair, freckles and facial hair. Perhaps an even bigger change, however, is that Cole has a brand new voice in this game. In the original, Cole had a gravelly voice, and now he has a much lighter, sarcastic at times voice. It actually sounds a bit like Nathan Drake ? especially in the way humorous lines are delivered.
Sounds like Sucker Punch has taken one of my favorite characters of this console generation and turned him into my absolute least favorite.

I know it's common practice for people to regurgitate Yahtzee's opinions, and for other people to promptly turn around and call that first group of people tools and biters. That said, does anyone honestly like Nathan Drake? He cracks wise every two to three seconds, yet somehow manages to never be funny. He looks, sounds, and dresses like a fucking frat boy. I imagine the devs had a pow-wow, combined every guy's ideal best friend with every girl's perfect boyfriend, and generated a character with whom no one can (or should be able to) relate. I literally cannot stomach Uncharted 1 or 2 because of this character.

Was Cole perfect? Hell no, and that's the fucking idea. He comes from the Max Payne school of character creation, where cheese and camp coalesce into something blissfully self-aware. The guy wasn't painfully unfunny or laughably handsome. He was a courier, for fuck's sake, an everyman, so it made sense that he had rough edges and some single-mindedness. Now he's wearing jewelry and designer clothing while spewing one-liners? Who the fuck gets into these focus groups, my dumbass sister?

TLDR version: Go fuck yourselves, Sucker Punch.

I actually liked Cole's look better in the first game. I wish they would have kept him the same.

I find Drake funny, and he fits the role of a guy thrown into a situation he never wanted to be in quite well.

But I'm pissed that Sucker Punch is taking that route with Cole. Cole should be gravely, he should be pissed off, he should be (to use a word I hate to use when describing things I like) dark! He lives in a dark world filled with hunger, suffering, and super-powered villains trying to rule the world.

It'll be interesting to see how Cole turns out in the end, but I'm not happy with how it's looking.

I just got my Game Informer and I really don't like Cole's new look, it's like they sucked out what little personality he had and turned him into every generic-looking game character that came before him. I think it's a stupid decision on Sucker Punch's part.

I can't help but feel, no matter what they do to Cole, as long as his voice is different I will be happy.

Oh, and I liked Drake, he worked well for the character.

I like Drake and so do a lot of people. So stop whining about that.

However, I also liked Cole. I think its a bad move changing the main character for the sequel, especially making him completely unrecognizable. I hope they realise their mistake and change him back.

I respect your opinion, but you and I can never be friends.

Good point.

Consider...

he unwittingly blew up tons of people and lost the woman he loved only to find out that the man who was responsible was fucking him. How does a series of such traumatic events turn a hard-boiled, gravely, victim of circumstance into a wise-cracking pretty boy dick head?

It smacks of focus group. The first game didn't sell as well as they thought it should have, so they looked for any way possible to broaden its appeal - and the surefire road to success is obviously dumbing down the main protagonist to the point where every idiotic girl or frat boy can instantly relate to him. Probably because he is now a an idiotic frat boy.

Edit: sort of astounded that people like Nathan Drake. Blows my mind, really.

I was willing to give the new guy a chance, but after the trailer, it is going to be very difficult listening to what amounts to a bearded Peter Parker.

Aw, but I liked Cole in the first game.
And while I definitely don't hate Nathan Drake, I don't want to see every character in every game become just like him.

I hate his new design... and I don't know many people who like it. I'm playing through both inFamous and Uncharted 2 and I really don't like Nathan Drake as a character. Cole isn't that great either, but I like him better than Drake.

Oh, and before you go saying bad things about Sucker Punch, remember that they made Sly Cooper. It will make everything better.

Nathan Drake is a cool character, not a realistic one just a nice one.

Cole in the original game was a true realistic super hero , much like batman. The only cliche of cole was his buzz cut which many main characters seem to use now.

Christ, I hate Drake. Though I was never crazy about the old Cole. His attachment to that ***** Trish was so annoying. But anyway, if Cole has turned into Drake (judging by his new appearance, that isn't that big of a stretch), I'm just not going to play this.

Look at this from Sucker Punch's perspective.

(This is a general take) In the first game, people hated Cole's gravely voice. They though the way he moved was stiff and unnatural, and he looked pretty butt ugly.

Now, Sucker Punch wanted to change that. So they changed his voice, upped the animation, and made him look at bit less like a potato (he did, honestly).

Personally, I don't mind the new Cole, though I didn't mind the old one either. Though his voice did get on my nerves at times. And, in all honesty, he was pretty butt-ugly. He looked a bit too old, at least older than I thought he should have been. I do agree, however, that the new design makes him look too conventional and not unique enough. We see enough brown-haired dashing men in games already.

And I personally liked Nathan Drake, he pretty much reacts the same way I would; shouting random lines at the insanity of what's going on. Seriously, if you saw a helicopter with Gatling guns aimed right at you while you're hanging on a barely stable beam, you're going to say "Oh shit" or some variation thereof.

I'm gonna have to go and agree with this 100%. However, I like Cole's new look...only if he wasn't supposed to be Cole. If it was a whole new character in EVERY way, then fine, I'm all for it. But considering its an established character, No Sucker Punch, just no, bring back Cole how he is supposed to be!
