Should have ended when it was supposed to end. I wanted something epic, not half a 600 page book about stupid dwarf politics and some stupid excuse as to why he needs to write another 600 page LotR knock off. Also, why the hell has it taken this book so long?

That being said, my brother is buying it so I'll probably read it.

Owner of the entire hardcover collection here. I haven't read them in a few years, but I have fond memories from my Senior year of High School reading them. It's probably the most mature fantasy based series revolving around dragons I can recommend right now.

I also didn't mind how much the movie didn't follow the book, actually. It was still fun to put a voice to Saphira for once.

[small]I eagerly anticipate the release of the final chapter to the story. I want to find out what happens next!![/small]

Liked Eragon, liked Eldest, got so bored with Brisingr I stopped reading it. Then I realised this series is a respray of Star Wars and Lord of the Rings with some originality.

Not to bash, I still quite like the first two but it just kinda fell out when Eragon said "Look inside, you know it to be true". If I butchered the line I apologise, it's been years.

I have bought all the books and read them, I like the series really, but it's a shame it has taken so long to wrap it up :/

I, personally, prefer this book to LOTR. Also, Only good thing about the movie is the fact it is named after the book. I prefer to imagine Saphira's voice as like, A goddesses voice.

EDIT: I also figured out Solembum's statement about the Rock of Kuthian and the Vault of Souls.

It's okay.

I'd say it is just one level above Harry Potter.

Haha, true. Still, I wish that more people would read the Wizard of Earthsea, or some of David Eddings' stuff over Eragon, or at least after it.

/edit
Or any of the dozen other authors his book came from :p

Boy lives with uncle in the middle of the Empire and is told by a mysterious old man that he has magic powers who would also teach him to fight with the "Varden" against the Empire and their evil leader.

Yeah, Star Wars was alright.

Read the first two, and I guess I didn't care enough to read the rest though. Why are people mentioning plagiarism, though? I must be out of the loop or something.

While I agree that they spent far too long in Trojhiem dealing with Dwarf politics, the books are still fun reads. I'm still waiting in the last book in the inheritance cycle.

Well, if you know the Star Wars story and Lord of the Rings lore, there are some blatant ripoffs.

Here's an Amazon review to help you out though: http://www.amazon.com/gp/cdp/member-reviews/A1AF3KH4P72LLT/ref=cm_cr_auth/102-7738862-0519366#RPG7L9VJ0KAL8

The series is not as bad as some make it out to be, but it's really only a competent series at best. The writing is tolerable and the story and pacing bearable, but the world is utterly derivative. Paolini manages to make it a decent read, but there are some truly AMAZING series' that deserve the attention Inheritance got much more than it does.

I'll probably read the new one when it comes out, if only to finish the series, but I won't be surprised when Murtagh heel face turns and throws Galbatorix down a well, while being shocked with a magical lightning attack, and dies.

I got that too. I didn't get it on the first read, but it seemed fairly obvious the second time through.

I enjoyed them the first time I read them, but on each subsequent read-through the flaws became more glaring and my suspension of disbelief wouldn't hold any more.

I'll probably read the last one out of sheer curiosity to see how everything wraps up, but I wouldn't consider myself a fan.

They're an alright read, but the whole "special metal in a meteor (I believe at the bottom of a lake, though that part could be wrong)" thing in Brisingr was odd for me, having just read The Skystone by Jack Whyte, which had something similar (although in The Skystone the sword, in this case Excalibur, wasn't forged until the next book), and is a lot older.
