I've enjoyed the Smash Bros. series. As for characters I've been introduced to through it, well Captain Falcon, I'd heard of F-Zero, but I didn't know who Capt. Falcon was before Smash Bros. Also, the Fire Emblem characters of Marth, Roy and Ike; Mr. Game and Watch, and Ness and Lucas. I'd heard of Earthbound before, but I didn't know who any of the characters were. Oh and R.O.B. never heard of R.O.B. before either.

So... users are joining teams and create thread-brands? Sure why not.

I wish that more people who didn't like the Smash series at least had respect for it. It seems that anyone outside of its fan base assumes that everyone IN the fan base likes it JUST because it has a bunch of Nintendo characters in it; and that those nine million people would just as quickly buy Nintendo-licensed empty CD jewel cases. No it's actually for the gameplay, guys. That's the reason people keep playing it for years on end. It's a very simple game mechanic with an astonishingly deep set of strategies that naturally flow out of it. The reason Yahtzee's review of Brawl got him more hate than any other was not for the game itself but for the disgusted, completely uncomedically bitter WAY in which he reviewed it and genuinely loathed its fans.

Also, the reason all these characters are fighting is because of jealous rage.

They are the stars and main focus of their respective existences, and THINK that they are the center of the universe. And are not pleased to discover other people with the same status somewhere else.

Thanks to the popularity of Roy and Marth I have Fire Emblem in English, this is important.

They introduced me to characters and franchises I wasn't aware existed, most notably when I was much younger, the first super smash bros, I had no idea who Fox or Ness or Captain Falcon where.

Since then the roster has grown and I'm always happy to see new faces on it.

I also like the game because it holds fond memories for me, not necessarily on it's merits of game play since it really is the same fighter tweaked and brushed up prettier each time. But I still like it.

I love the Smash Bros. series... My favorite is still Melee, but that's mainly because I logged in more hours in that game than all of the JRPGs I have played COMBINED...

With that said... I can't say I was "introduced" to any of the characters so far that have been in a Smash Bros. game... I will, however, say that that Smash Bros. game have done a good job of "reminding" me of what certain characters are capable of... except maybe Ganondorf... I still find it hard to believe his move sets is a bit too similar to Capt. Falcon, I mean why hasn't he done those moves in any of the Zelda games that I have played? Doesn't he have a sword? Why doesn't he use it in any of the SB battles?[footnote]All those questions were asked by a young me during hour I-forgot-how-many-hours-I-have-played-Melee-in-total...[/footnote]

Anyway, the series is great, it doesn't really need a story to compliment it, and balancing was never something I thought about until after playing a Smash Bros. game...

I love the series, it's incredibly fun and could be pretty addictive if I could only find someone at my skill level to play with...

Moving on. I was introduced to Captain Falcon and Ness in the original Smash. In Brawl it was Marth, Ike and Pit. Didn't play Melee unfortunately.
You should totally play melee! It was probably the best in the series, plus it had Mewtwo!

I love the game. It's really good fun although Brawl was a wee bit too slow for my liking but the new one is looking nice.

The game does a really good job of introducing fans to lesser seen franchises.
Hell even the bigger ones XD

How Metroid or F-Zero passed under my radar for so long is beyond me.

I was introduced to pretty much every character beyond the pokemon and mario universe in the first smash bros. This encouraged to me to buy OoT, starfox 64, f-zero-x and metroid prime.

Melee I knew a lot more but not people like ness and fire emblem characters. Brawl I knew of pretty much all of them.

I love the series and I am really excited for the next games in the series.
As for characters, Smash Bros introduced me to Captain Falcon and F Zero, Ice Climbers, Ness, Lucas and Earthbound/Mother, Marth, Roy and Fire Emblem, Game and Watch, and Pit and Kid Icarus.

General opinion
I loved SSB. loved it. First time we rented it we spent 4 whole hours playing it straight.
Melee was fun, but something about it always made me hesitate whenever someone asked if we wanted to play.
Brawl I played once and it was enough for me.
Truth be told I do not have much interest in the new game. It's not even all because of a percieved decline in quality, just that the games don't excite me anymore.

Characters that were introduced to me

Captain Falcon
Ice Climbers
Marth
Mr Game & Watch
Lucario
Pichu
and Pit

Looking through the rosters for the Super Smash games, I have to say I.... actually knew all of the characters. Either through outside sources or having played their games myself. Sucks just reading gaming mags and not playing said games in them, alas.

If I've been here nearly four years and never heard of you, you clearly aren't doing that good of a job ;-)

Remember back in the day when P.I.R.A.T.E and the Asylum were the two big groups?
...not really. Fuck me, I'm unobservant.

Come on fellow 09er, let's remissness about the old days like some of the older members of the Escapist do. XD
I remember this one time when some guy got banned for something, and then everyone complained that there were too many feminism threads. After a while, it all seems to blur together...

I usually like them and always have a fun time playing them even if I suck at them.

I was not aware of Captain Falcon,Fox/Falco,Samus,Ike/Roy and Ice Climbers.Though the only franchise I've got into via SSB is Metroid and Fire Emblem.

Plus melee helped familiarize me with the two N64 Zeldas as I'd only played WInd Waker and Link the Past at that point.

By some strange and horrible twist of fate, I actually did know about Mr. Game & Watch before Super Smash Bros, and by extension the awesomeness of Metroid D:

My friend's dad had a bunch of older consoles and me and my friend used to play them along with his Snes.

They had a game thing with him on it. Really strange seeing as how I mostly grew up in the N64 era and PS2/Gamecube era (and the tail end of the genesis snes era).

I was introduced to F-Zero through the awesomeness of Captain Falcon. I proceeded to play F-Zero GX... and then I got my ass handed to me on a silver platter, so I went back to punching things with good ol' Cap on Smash Bros.
