You have all said it at one point or another that some games aren't innovative, they just do the same thing over and over again with merely cosmetic changes, so now it is in YOUR hands to innovate a genre of games, pick your genre and say your innovative idea, your innovative idea could be gameplay wise, location wise (not just the same boring terrorist-occupied country in the middle east that we just can't come out and call Afghanistan), idea wise etc... Go wild.

I just wanna see how hard/easy it is for people to come out with an innovative idea.

Shooter/Action RPG: Cutscenes are dependent on how good you are at the game and how resourceful you can be, so in a game like Mass Effect for instance, whether or not your team mates survive is dependent on your ability to protect and lead them as well as kill enemies.

Tetris: You play as the person dropping the blocks and your goal is to kill AI players before they get a good score.

FPS: You play as a blind gunman. On screen you see a visual representation of what you know about the environment. Like, bump into a wall and you memorise where it is. Hear something and you imagine what it is. Your advantage is that you can shoot through walls so I guess it would be mostly set in smaller indoor areas.

Sandbox genre:

Make the core missions in a linear single player frame of mind. Take good care to enemy placement and level design to ensure that the missions are different, interesting, and have depth. Then, you take those quality missions within quality levels and scatter those about to create your map instead of creating a big city and placing missions about and hoping it all works out. Lastly, you scatter about side missions on the map. I'm convinced Mercenaries (not Mercs 2, that game sucked) was made in this fashion because every mission had so many ways to complete it and care was taken to enemy placement, and you could plan your way through each mission (instead of the standard go here and kill a bunch of enemies). Because of my awesome Mercenaries experience, I find the Rockstar sandbox games (GTA/RDR) to be completely bland and not captivating because the story missions aren't good.

FPS: You are the gun. Fire bullets when told to and don't overheat like a little *****.

Flying Games: You're a passenger. You have to sit there for a long time and do quiet things in a restricted space.

Fighting Games: You are the announcer, shout some random shit and watch people fight.

Fighting/Beat 'Em Up: The four main buttons on your controller correspond to each limb. Hold to block with one, tap to attack in combinations.

Survival Horror: All serious wounds must be treated in private using medical items before they worsen, and some will lead to the start of zombie infection. The catch is that once you reach a certain point between being fine and the point of no return, most enemies ignore you, considering you to be one of them.

The only innovation needed: Make video games with the first and foremost intention of making the best contribution possible to gaming, and not to just make money. The rest will come naturally.

JRPG: Your an ugly middle aged thief with on one to love or care for. Your family isnt dead, but they hate your guts and never want to see you. Your sidekicks are a scilent animal/cat/dog/fish thing that accually pulls his weight, and an over weight-unattractive female who never does anything worth noticing ((meg essentually)). Your Weapons upgrade themself, you only have 1 items which never runs out ((but has a recharge time)), you have no invintory, and the music isnt repetative and annoying.

fps fantasy rpg
the premise is you and up to three friends have been brought together (you decide you background) to kill a group of rather big monsters and their minions to save the world. now for the innovation. the controls for combat are the same as bioshock. right trigger for attacking with your sword(staff, spear, drill fist, your choice) and right bumper for switching your weapon. left trigger will depend on your class wizards will have spells, assassins will have a second weapon, knights will have a skill (e.g a spin attack), and the archer will have what type of arrow he is using (this is a skill attack). a button is for jumping, x is for dodging, y depends on class, wizard charging mp, knight blocking, assassin stealth mode, archer load a extra shot. b is for interacting. you will be in first person at all times so if your are turning a valve to access the sewers you need your team mates to fight of any monster that things you look yummy(an a.i. team mate will open valves or anything like that in single player). when fighting a boss (all will be different e.g. in the sewers you will fight a mud monster that will grow bigger when going through anything dirty and will get smaller when going through water the larger the monster the less damage it takes while when smaller it moves faster also it can split itself apart (halves it's hp goes to each part) while in the mountains you will fight a colossal which only really takes damage on certain parts which you can get to by climbing, flying, shooting and quick time events) each class can do different things, the wizard can use spells to block paths or make himself fly, the knight when dodging or blocking certain moves will activate a quick time event for himself to either get to a advantage point or to massive damage, the assassin can climb and sneak, the archer can set traps using special arrows. the wizard use mp for spells which he has to recharge, the knight and archer use skill points which recharge naturally, and the assassin uses sneak which will drain at a rate depending how hard the sneaking is and recharges naturally. also you learn skills and improve your character by levelling up and spending skill, attribute, and weapon points. skill points makes you learn skills or improves them, attribute increase states and weapon point improve skill with weapons which mean you can use better weapons and increases the speed and damage of weapons of that type.

FPS.

You see like an EKG machine, except that all sound creates a line which in turn creates an outline of everything, but the outline only stays for a couple of seconds, and runs perpendicular to where you are looking.

Stealth and Puzzle RPG: You are a poor young man with a degree in ICT from a prestigious college, the government is cracking down on crime (even seemingly petty crimes like vandalism) due to the increase in poverty causing crime rates to go up and the government seems to only help the rich/middle class, leaving the relatively poor up to itself. You decide to become a thief with a catch: you only steal from people you think are bad guys (corrupt police, drug lords etc...).

Gameplay wise is you have a variety of tools that can all be used in different ways to break into different areas and the catch is you as the player will have to think of abstract solutions to problems. Locked door? Find a bobby pin to try and pick the lock, break the door down, use the vents, find another route, you pick! The RPG comes in as you need to talk to people to get information on your targets, you customize which abilities you excel in, pick your thief gear etc...

Combat wise you are fast but not all that strong, so picking fights isn't all that great of an idea (unless you put points into combat), guns aren't easy to get hold of so ammo is precious and most of the time you won't be able to shoot your targets dead.

You play as an accountant and it's the end of financial year, setting up those journals are going to be crazy!
