This may sound like an entirely stupid question to ask, but I'm really just trying to see if my idea would be worth it.

Now, we all know that there's a whole heap of youtbue channels out there, and mny of those are Minecraft dedicated ones.

However, I want to start another one!

I imagine it to go like this: short, snappy dialogue between my girlfriend and myself, with quick edit cuts. the actual Minecraft series will be dedicated towards teaching my Girlfriend how to use Redstone devices and such.

What do yo think? Script already written for the first video (Yeah, a script...) I just wanted to pitch the idea.

Sam,

I don't know, I guess I just thought that a better subject might be preferable than a normal let's play. Instead of just the whole getting to grips with Minecraft thing, I'd be teaching her REdstone.

The channel would feature blog posts and such as well. Appreciate the feedback though, haza.

Well, all the couples videos that I've seen are really annoying. It might be different for some people, but it just irritates me.
And plus, the whole Minecraft thing has been so over saturated that even if the videos you make are really awesome and cool and stuff it's be getting hardly any attention.

What is it that irritates you about it? I'd love to know, see if I can eliminate that. true, Minecraft is over saturated, but so is damn well everything. This would be rather general, but witha focus on Minecraft at the moment.

Hey, I'm not looking necessarily for huge subscription rates or anything (but hell, that'd be great!)

Rule of thumb: If you have to ask, it's probably not a good idea.

That said, the only Minecraft videos I do watch is Yogcast, and they are annoying as hell.

The done a thousand times over thing as mentioned in the above post, and it just seems that no matter how hard the commentators try they spend the whole damn video giggling at one another and not getting anything done.

Only reason I ask is pure curiosity; I'm doing to do it anyway, I just want to know what the people of The Escapist think of my attempt to get into the world of Youtube.

I've already learned something. Don't Goddamn giggle. Gotcha.

I can almost guarentee that I will fail tremendously, gather a total of 400 views and fade into obscurity, but that's okay. I just have some funny ideas for some bits, and some ideas for a couple Minecraft related videos.

If I fail, I will have tried and put myself out there. If I succeed, well... Awesome.

Ok, if you are determines to do this then first thing is to make sure your equiment is up to scratch. Nothing will lose people's interest faster than a rubbish quality video with poor audio.

Secondly you need to plan ahead, have a purpose, make sure you have the right tools, and maybe even do a dummy run. Have a loose script of things to talk about so you have no long pauses r lulls. There is nothing worse than watching people run in circles because they forgot their pick, or can't find coal. Youtube is an ADD wet dream, you need to grab people's attention and keep it throughout the entire video length. Even 30 seconds of nothing really happening may seem short to you, but to a viewer that is an eternity, and if they start to get bored they'll just click on one of the related vids to the side and not bother with your vids again.

Third: Make your videos exciting! There are 5000 different tutorials and lets plays already out there focusing on redstone. To nake any sort of headway yours needs to be either funny and awesome, or showing off some creation that stretches the limits of what can be achieved by Redstone. Since people have created computer processors within Minecraft I don't think the second option is feasible, so you have to put a lot of effort into achieving the first.

I've only seen one let's play work with two people. I'd imagine a couples let's play would be pretty awful. Minecraft is not a good thing to get into, either.

Not to worry, I'll be ensuring I won't be using any crappy equipment, either for the camera used for the blog videos, or the actual Minecraft recording.

I've alrady written a script for the first video, but we'll obviously alter as we go and, yes, we will be doing a dummy run beforehand for either video ideas.

Exciting is planned. I have a slightly interesting redstone contraption, wherein you pull the relevant levers and then be able to spell out words, utliing sticky pistons. A bit elaborate, and still needs some fine tuning before it can be put in a proper video.

I've only ever seen one couple's let's play that's worked and that's "Two Best Friends Play:".

I used to make Let's Plays with my friends. I rarely got negative reception, but then again, I wasn't very popular. I found doing them alone made it incredibly boring as I didn't know what to say half the time and I'm generally unfunny. Once I brought in my close friend it got much much better. Once I started bringing in more friends it got... Convoluted. Much of our conversations had NOTHING to do with the game and a couple of us would occasionally bring up personal matters or discuss friends not present at the LP and other stuff that viewers would have no idea what we were talking about and... yeah... Then we made a 4-player, system-link Left 4 Dead LP and things actually significantly improved.

I find the best games to do multi-person Let's Plays for are co-op games, since that keeps everyone commentating all focused on the one thing they should be focusing on; the game that's being played!

you know the Yogscast?
ever wonder why Lewis plays with Simon, and Simon plays with Hannah, yet Lewis is dating Hannah?
Lewis and Hannah hate each other when they play games.

I don't think it's a good idea:

1) Making redstone stuff is boring. Guides are one thing, but basing a LP on it is another.
2) As mentioned above, watching couples is irritating. Think of it this way: you're in a bar with your friend and his girlfriend. No matter how good of a friends you are with either of them, they will be doing their own thing with their in-jokes, focused attention to one-another and of course reminding you that you're a sad, lonely, pathetic human being (and by you I mean me). At the end of the night you'll be banging your head against the table, bored out of your mind and harboring thoughts of killing yourself.
3) Minecraft LPs, not a good idea, overdone.

A... Good point. In all honesty, we do argue when we play. I get bossy about all the awesome things I want to do. It gets quite funny sometimes though; we argue in a fashion best suited for sitcoms. Except when it gets serious. I'll just.. turn of Fraps in that scenario...

You made me laugh. Kudos.

True, but we could ery much strife to not bring in-jokes into the equasion, nor try to exclude the viewer; a key mistake in medium.

My youtube channel is quite "popular" considering I haven't touched the fucking thing in years.

My best video got 200,000 views xD (nothing to do with minecraft)
And it is shit.

If anyone wants to see it; then here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ixSjUCcGyg0&t=6m49s
Don't expect anything... saying don't expect much is giving it too much credit.

Please watch the severely better but under viewed one >.>
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wn0-t4nd-9k&

---------------

I keep getting idea's for video's but never go through with them. Minecraft video's... well roll a 1024 sided dice and you might get lucky... you never know >.>

Its pretty much luck and how well you link the video to become an initial success, and if people like what they see, THEN they go back to you.
