Sorry to snip your quote, but for some reason it was not letting me post a reply with all the text included.

As I said to another poster, I'm willing to disable AdBlocker for The Escapist, because it's an acceptable compromise between a subscription and 'asking the store to stay open for free' as it were. I resisted initially, because I'm pretty paranoid about internet security (got keylogged in WoW once - not fun), but okay, I'll meet 'em halfway. To be honest, the quality of the content is - to me - only a small step up from a decent, random website or clip on YouTube. Not bad, but not so good it deserves remuneration. The day I feel I'm required to pay a subscription is the day I stop coming here.

Hmm? Captcha? Haven't seen those in forever. No siree.
Oh there you are Mac. Haven't really seen you posting around lately.

OT: Having a top secret alternate account that I use on occasion I do know about these captchas. If they really do bother you that much do get the pubclub. Supporting the site and getting rid of them. Otherwise I say let them advertise and earn their money.

[sub][sub]If I recall correctly it doesn't matter how you reply to the ad captchas. Sometimes I just enter 'shit' and it works just fine.[/sub][/sub]

The entire Escapist is a thinly disguised promotional tool. This website lost its honor for a while now.
Any game website that has both reviews of games on it, and ads from game developers on it is a little bit funny.

I hate the ad-captcha with a passion, but the site's gotta make revenue somehow.

It's not exactly a mystery that the Escapist is not exactly well-off financially.

Escapist has been having financial issues for ages. If it helps the site to load smoothly and lets them pay their contributors I dont mind. Hell, I'm not here for the reviews or anything.

Supposing the new captcha allows them to get out of their money issues. What are the chances of them ever removing it?

They've removed it before. I remember seeing this ad-captcha last year.

Perhaps I listened to too much Bill Hicks when I was younger, but I loathe marketing and advertising, and to see it implemented in such an underhand and sneaky fashion makes me angry.
No you didn't. You need to listen to more...And play from YOUR FUCKING HEART!

OT: Whenever I get asked "What do you think about this brand?" I read up on it quickly and give a uneducated negative opinion on it that sounds like I have a clue what I'm talking about.
Heh, that was a great bit. "I WANT MY ROCK STARS DEAD!" He did passionate anger so well.
